Brainstorm a new Slave 1 title?

By FluxCapcitr, in X-Wing

Whether or not we'll get it, I feel that the Slave 1 definitely needs a new title card. The current title is near useless and sees almost no practical use, it is mostly just included for thematic reasons. The Slave 1 is one of the most iconic ships, flown by one of the most iconic characters, it'd be great to have the title get some play. Now that a second Millennium Falcon title is out, how about a new Slave 1 title!

Here are some ideas that probably stink, but will get the conversation started:

Slave 1 - Title - 3 pts - After performing an attack, you may perform a free evade action.

This title encourages use by a high PS pilot (Boba Fett) and is limited in that it is an action and can be blocked by having previously performed that action or being stressed.

Slave 1 - Title - 2 pts - Add the barrel roll icon to your action bar.

This title plays to the idea the Fett heavily modified his craft. It also aids the Scum Fett with the ability to knife fight better and the Imperial Fett with additional maneuverability. The downside is that it could be combined with EU and PTL for crazy arc-dodging, which could be borderline OP. That said, it probably wouldn't be any worse than Dash.

Slave 1 - Title - 1 pt - When attacking, if the defender has at least one crew card equipped, you may change 1 focus result to a crit.

This title ties in with Fett being a bounty hunter and zeroing in on ships that are carrying potential bounties. It's extremely powerful against some ships, while being worthless against others.

What thoughts and ideas do you all have?

can change that last one to when firing upon a unique pilot and make it two points.

0pts: your upgrade bar gains an Illicit slot.

Double illicit for scum, an illicit for imps.

It's extremely powerful against some ships, while being worthless against others.

Which is exactly the kind of thing that promotes Rock-Paper-Scissors feeling and weakens the game. Consider increasing the point cost and having it change one eye to a hit on all attacks, but one eye to a crit if the targe has a crew member.

I like the OP's first title the best. In Scum, at least, the lowest PS pilot is 5, so there's still a decent chance of getting that evade token before being shot at.

I disagree as I think the variability strengthens the game. Having ships and upgrades that are always good, all the time, lead to very similar lists and games that always play the same. Having strengths and weaknesses built into things leads to greater variability in lists. The list builder must choose between spending points on an upgrade that is high-risk, high reward, depending on what list they face, or a safer on with less upside.

The things that lead to rock-paper-scissors seem to be things that completely dominate one or more opposing strategies, requiring hard counters to stop. I don't feel this would be that severe. The title is unique meaning that only one ship can equip it. In addition, that ship will likely take up half the points in the list. While helpful vs crew carriers, I don't think this will cause people to stop carrying crew on their ships.

EDIT: While I disagree on the reasoning for the change, the change itself it a good idea and would likely make the upgrade more popular.

I'd like to see something that pairs well with his imperial ability to make imperial boba more scary.

Something like: you may change a bank into a turn of the same speed and vice versa.

Or: when taking a bank maneuver, you may change the speed.

Something thematic that explores his ability to patiently wait and track the millennium falcon. Perhaps the opposite of Han always shooting first, maybe boba always moves last. Or at the end of the activation phase he can perform a barrel roll, allowing him to reposition to follow any prey.

I always just figured it should add either an Illicit slot, or a systems slot.

During the activation phase treat your pilot skill as 15. Your action bar gains the barrel roll action.

Great idea! What about an ability that at the beginning of the activation phase, allows you to choose whether to increase your Pilot Skill to one higher than a ship that is in your firing arc? This would only apply to the activation phase.

It would keep with the idea of tracking something in your sights. Might be a bit to complicated though. Your barrel roll idea would be easier to implement and is probably more realistic.

During the activation phase you may choose one ship in your firing arc. You pilot skill is equal to that ship's pilot skill +1.

You may fire secondary weapons out your auxiliary arc.

That's a Fett ability, not one for a Mandalorian Mercenary or a Bounty Hunter, it is not something granted by the ship.

True, but you could put a restriction on it limiting it to pilots above a certain PS. Or you could rephrase it to increase your pilot skill by a certain amount above your current PS, making it more valuable for higher PS.

The TIE/x7 title exactly as is would be a great title for the firespray.

2 point reduction with an evade on fast moves...which includes both kturns!

Slave 1 title. 2 points. Adds extra munitions spot. That's what I use it for now. Lol

replace your imperial boba fett's pilot ability with the ability of his scum crew, minus the whole discard bit

Can we have a title that changes the pilot abilities of the Imperials to things that don't suck?

Yeah, it's called "take the scum versions" :P

Realistically, if you want it to benefit Boba specifically, then it just needs to be something that dovetails nicely with his pilot ability. Otherwise it's still going to be better on the other pilots.

You can change the Slave 1 to a duplicate of the Navigator, allowing you to take a different crewmember while giving you a lot of flexibility.

Even the maneuvering fins of the YV would be nice.

Definitely not as good as Dash, since you lack Kyle for action efficiency and the whole 360 degree firing thing.

You may fire secondary weapons out your auxiliary arc.

Thank you.

Funnier if it stays exactly the same. :P

Or something like "When you have a TL on an enemy ship, at the beginning of Activation/Combat Stage, you can choose either +1 or -1 PS than the Target Locked enemy."

Thematically speaking, it would be like deciding to act before or after your targeted bounty

I would like to see an imperial only titlle. Our Firesprays are in desperate need of help.

Title: 3 points

"When you are assigned a damage card, you can discard a secondary weapon to discard that damage card."

With this method you have no advantage when having plane firesprays, but equipped with a cannon or bomb you have additional ways to remove damage cards.
