What to do with last 26 points?

By MechGumbi, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I am playing in an escalation league, am at the 120-pt stage, and I don't know which option I want to use for the 26 points I have left from the upgrade from 90-pts. I am running a bomber swarm with 4 scimitars with extra munitions, g chips, various torps/missiles, and some bombs. The other 4 points are going to bombs.

Here are the choices I am considering:

  1. Jonus w/TIE Mk.2 Engine mod & Adaptibility and 2-pt bomb for last Scimitar (hoping for Imp Vets before last round in a couple weeks)
  2. Wampa & Academy
  3. BotE (TAP) w/chips, title, juke, & cluster/concussion missile

Not really looking to have an initiative bid, but would have 1-pt bid with Jonus. Jonus would help other bombers a lot, & if he doesn't come in at 120-pts, he will be in at 150-pts. The 2 TIE/lns OR TAP is the remainder of my points toward 150 with Jonus.

Help me, X-Wing Forums, you're my only hope!

There's always omega leader

I'd choose wampa & academy, because that's my playstyle. Jonus would be more thematic

I thought the standard OL was 29 pts?

no, 26, though there are people who put stealth device on him. I am not one of those.

Exactly this. Stealth Device is nice if you have the points, but ultimately not all that good when you still get focussed by multiple enemies.

Shows you how much I have played him. Jonus will be in the list, just thinking that I will wait a couple weeks to see if Imp Vets comes out to make him a TIE Shuttle with Fleet & System Officers. Otherwise he will get some tracers and a bomb.

I have to second Omega Leader. I feel like he fills a good roll of chasing any Aces that try to run from the arcs of your missiles.

Before clicking on this thread I was fairly certain the answer was "Biggs, Omega Leader, or Palob".

Did not leave disappointed.

Not really sure I want to use OL, and only Awing Test Pilot is actually choosing one of the options that I listed. If I do use Wampa & Academy, or even OL, what strategy should I use with them? Flankers (for Wampa or OL)? In their face blocker (for Academy)?

From your options above I would choose Wampa + AP. Personally I would make it 2x AP and then you have your two point bomb. I have a bias though as personally I don't like Wampa when you don't have the Emperor to create that crit to cancel.

In your face blocker with the academy. Wampa almost doesn't matter how you fly him, since he ends up acting like a 14 point biggs, depending on what you're flying against.

Oooooooommmmmmmmmeeeeeeegggggggggggaaaaaaaaaa Leeaaaadddddeeeeeer is by far the best 26 cost ship in the entire game.

yeah, Omega L's just the easy decision here. You run him in from the flank so you don't seismic him to death, and he's a very solid compliment to bombers. He's a powerful sustained 1v1 late game for a list that runs the risk of having nothing left to take on powerful late game pieces if their ordnance whiffs

Easiest to just second this.

I'm going to be a contrarian here, and say take Alozen with ATC and adaptability. I've never regretted taking him, and your opponent will likely forgot all about his ability and ignore him. Also unlike most ships he loves being in a massive bumpfest furball. I've killed Soontir with him in that sort of situation. You can give him a proton rocket and guidance chips at later points levels if you want.

I think he's better than OL. He certainly hits much harder than him. Though it's not like Imperials aren't blessed with a plethora of good pilots in the mid-20s range.

I assume TIE/x1 title as well? Alozen needs EU in my opinion to take best advantage of his pilot ability pushing cost a little too high. Could be added in escalation rounds.

"Lockdown" [Omega Leader] is the anti-ace in this build. Doesn't hit as hard, but also doesn't get hit near as hard.

I assume TIE/x1 title as well?

Of course. Would you ever not take it?

Alozen needs EU in my opinion

As someone who has played Alozen dozens of times: no, no he does not. He doesn't have the PS for it anyway, even with VI. You just need to not be scared about moving boldly.

More generally: people tend to like to load up their Advanced with lots of things, when really all they need is ATC and a cheap EPT. All of their pilot abilities are great and worth the ship.

In reference to the Title comment; it was unintentionally demeaning and that wasn't my intent. Sadly I have seen it done. People who didn't buy the Raider expansion and just bought a random ATC to throw on Vader. Either way it goes without saying that the title is critical.

I will take you word for Alozen not needing EU. I won't begin to pretend I am an expert on the topic and my personal opinion is based on more theory craft then experience.

To add the conversation at hand, I agree with Awinf Test pilot regarding using TIE's as blockers.
