I'm working on a deckbuilder for Warhammer Invasion. Does anyone have or know where I could find good quality scans of all the cards? I'd like to implement those to the program - i like to see the cards while fiddling with deck ideas.
Deckbuilder and Card Scans
You've got a Friendship request ![]()
I can scan them for you no prob. Pm me and we can talk.
We have at the moment 3 efforts to provide a card database/deck builder. Before doing the same things often, we should work one really good effort.
Card scans are a bit difficult, because you dont have the rights to use them and some of the cards use GW artwork, so it is even more bad and would be likely banned, if not done official.
Any chance to make it work on GNU/Linux? ![]()
Using Gentoo myself, you can count me on your side. I would prefer a web based thing or some java application.
I'm surprised this sort of topic is even allowed to exist on here. What you are asking for is basically to steal the game for free from FFG. They would have every right to shut down any effort of this kind.
I'm gonna have to agree with jogo and Gargamel. Card scans would be a bad idea, especially when it comes to something GW is even associated with. They have been going hog wild with their evil corporate plan and shutting down any sites they feel violate their rights as a giant evil corporation...so this would be a bad idea and would probably not last long.
I think text only would be the safest route to avoid the gaze of the Eye of Sauron (aka GW Legal dept. of Ogres)
Forgot to say this, but I agree...Ok with the textual cards.

At least for Magic and Blue Moon did exist a deckbuilder with scans of all cards. I don't see this as stealing, as long as you are not making copies of the cards.
but I agree that a textual version would be better, the main problem is, imo, that some of the pictures are GW-property. Therfore, the best thing would be to implement a function for a user to add its own pictures, if he wants to.
An alternate solution would be to write a program that looks for specific local files (each file corresponding to a card image), and displays them it they exist. This way, it will be up to each player to scan in his own cards. If the files don't exist, it would display the card text without any art.
-> no copyrighted material distributed. (eventhough one may argue that card texts are also intellectual properties).
EDIT: just read that the previous answer already submitted this idea

But your explanation was better ![]()
As far as I know, the card data itself is not protectable because the creation peak is not reached and it is just plain data.
