Legends of the Galaxy - Orginized Play
Seems really interesting. I hope fantasy flight will support this. Running games at other living campaigns in the past I would suggest that having a system to generate and keep track of players is important and possibly keeping track of credits/XP at least would be good.
I'd personally like to start running something in the boston area we have a lot of living campaign players here.
If you get something going in Boston let me know, Im in the area.
I am going to try running at pandamonium books and games working out details now
I saw a post about the existence of this community attempt at organized play on Reddit ... and thought I'd cross-post over here as it appears those involved with the site are here.
First ... I'll preface my comments with ... I really want this attempt to work. I love the concept of SWRPG organized play. It is for that reason, that I offer the following feedback:
From the very small amount of information available through the website, I'm not seeing any addressing of the challenges encountered in an organized-play type situation. Those challenges include:
1 - Collections of pre-built and approved adventure modules, tailored to fit within a 3-4 hour block, stand alone outside of any over-arching campaign, and giving a hard-set "loot" and xp reward based on outcomes of each scene.
2 - Hard-set rules of character creation and equipment use, including something as simple as "you cannot use fan-made species" ... not even that is in the rules. There's a mention of "we'd like you to use the core books" ... but not a "you must use only official FFG material".
3 - A "tier" track for characters to advance on when determining the modules and tables they will sit at. A brand new character should not sit at the same table with a 500xp character ... but as of now, that could very easily happen. Tiering at maybe 50xp, 100xp, 200xp, 300xp, and 500xp would at least keep character "power-levels" within ranges at any given table.
4 - There is no prohibition against playing a character in your own campaign and then bringing it over into organized play ... and then back to your own campaign ... and then back to organized play ... etc. As such, things like credits-earned, obligation/duty/morality advanced, equipment acquired, xp earned, etc ... are not controlled for consistency ... which is one of the PRIMARY goals in an organized play atmosphere.
5 - BARELY ... maybe ... sorta ... a semi-sorta-kinda over-arching theme has been kinda implemented ... sorta. Organized play requires a pretty strong setup that puts everyone together on the same track and same goals ... that way you can plug and play new people in every session and automatically have a reason for everyone to be together AND a common goal they're all pursuing.
The website opens up for me. I did just make a DNS change to a new nameservers. Which may mean it did not open for that reason as the DNS has not populated yet.

As far as Fantasy Flight Games involvement. I have sat down with several of the developers and they love it the have expressed interested in playing in it and possibly running games for it too. Last I talked to Sam he was going to talk to Legal about having FFG sponsor it. However, he and I have not spoken since. As I was launching it now without FFG Legal Approval I added the NOT ENDORSED BY to the footer. However, should we get the blessing from Legal then that would be removed and they would team up with me.
Hey... it all looks pretty interesting to me. Probably won't see any of these events happen in Wichita, Kansas, sadly. And since I'm no longer in Minnesota, sitting in on the games there seems out of the question.
Are you wanting people to report grammatical and spelling issues they find on the site? Because honestly, I've already run into a couple.
I'd definitely attend an event in Wichita if I wasn't busy when it is scheduled, but I'm no GM. I'm also not sure that there is a LGS here that I'd like it to be at, because my experiences with the ones in Wichita have all been negative.

Good News for you. I am currently working on the development of this product. The book that contains all of these rules is off at the editors as we speak and I expect it back today. Once I get it back I was having the FFG Developers take a look at it for their opinion, feedback, edits, etc. From that I will post it online and do a full graphic mock up and release it to be downloaded off the website. That is the book in development as noted in the blogs at www.LegendsoftheGalaxy.com And yes I am speaking to the Developers at FFG. They have come played in my events and I have a good relationship with them. In fact FFG Marketing and Organized Play asked me to make a few tweaks to my marketing flyer and it would be approved by the FFG team. I have since made those changes and sent it to FFG for final approval. But with GenCon and the such going on we are waiting for final marketing flyer approval. That being said this is a community driven event.
While FFG Supports the community you are our only hope. I takes Event Organizers, Game Masters, and players like you to host events at your local hobby shops. On the website you can post your own event, you can download adventures. Any official printed FFG supplement or adventure is allowed for play.
You can also write your own adventures and email them to [email protected] or post them on the message boards. Our team will review them and if approved do a full graphic mock up and post it in our adventure download section. This is a great way for the community to affect the story. Other ways for you to affect the story is to run your own games and report the results of the adventures you run. This will allow us to begin to assemble an official story. Season 1 is largely taking the official posted adventures.
Starting this Saturday I am hosting a private Legends of the Galaxy Group who will begin running 100% new made up adventures. The ones that work will be documented and posted for official write up on the Legends of the Galaxy website. I am inviting the developers of the game to participate in this campaign along with other top notch players in my local area.
In addition, I will soon be documenting official adventure logs for all of the existing printed adventures. Unfortunately right now it is just me. But if you check out our support page you the community can help support and even help by filling these out to us and sending them in. I can then approve them. It will help me get all of this content up on the website.
Finally, once we have all of this in place we will launch a roll20 online play inititave to allow people in remote locations participate in the roleplaying experience. If you are interested in becomming a Regional Event Coordinator let me know as well. I am taking applications for leadership who will help promote events within your assigned region. Remember only together can we make a difference and create a fun and rewarding experience for all to enjoy.
So to reiterate, right now we are just in the initial launch phases of the Organized Play. Putting up the website was an attempt to create buzz and get it going which has been a success as we are already starting to see events start up. That is also why there is little traffic on the organized play website's discussion boards. It is not because it is a dead board more so that it is a new board and many don't post as the lack of activity makes it look dead. So I encourage you all to feel free to post there as you will get the fastest response from me. As for Reddit good call. I should go and open a Reddit and Yelp account so you can all post feedback and rank the performance of our events.
Thanks for the feedback
If there was an event in Austin (TX), I would certainly try very hard to attend.
However, at this time I cannot commit to being a coordinator or a GM.
And I would certainly try very hard to participate in a Roll20 online play situation.
Thanks!

Well I have a friend in Austin TX we grew up roleplaying star wars together. I will ask him if he wants to run a game in Austin
I love this idea, but as mem0ri says, it needs a lot more work to really function smoothly, especially a detailed, standardised set of adventure modules. If it does get to that stage, I would definitely talk to some people about getting a group set up in Glasgow. I know at least half a dozen people with experience GMing it here, so I think it could get off the ground

Or you can start now and be part of the creative process? Food for thought
Check out www.legendsofthegalaxy.com/legends-of-the-Galaxy
It has more detailed rules until the book comes out
As for modules that will be very soon

So, what happens if I already have all the CRBs that exist (so far), and more dice sets than I know what to do with? ![]()

Well if that was the case I would be willing to work with you to get you FFG Star Wars RPG Product up to an equal value instead. Be it character decks, crit decks, Adversary Decks, or supplement books.

If you could find a copy of the EotE Beta book, I think that would be one FFG SWRPG thing I don’t already have. But I do have the AoR and F&D Beta books.

Well the only copy of the Edge of the Empire Beta Book is the one that I own and is autographed by the creators of the product. So I will not be giving that up. I too have all of the books. The great thing is new books come out all the time which means if you are about to hit the reward let me buy the new book for you!
What I'm hearing, Brad, is that if you win you get to give a friend a copy of the CRB and get someone new started on the wonderful journey we have all embarked on!
Has there been any word back from FFG on the rule book?
