If this is a real thing, FFG needs to make it easier to find out where the physical locations are.

Visit Http://www.LegendsoftheGalaxy.comand click on the event calendar to see event locations and times. It is just starting so events are limited. We are looking for GMs nationwide to host events. If you want to host an event. Post it and it will be added to the calendar.

I think you might be confused. This does not look to be an official FFG backed event, but a fan-operated one.

I could be wrong though.

According to the whois lookup, the domain is owned by Nicholas in Andover, Minnesota - which while only 30 or so miles away from the FFG headquarters in Roseville is probably not affiliated. Also, I've yet to find anything to tie Nic to the company.

So my guess - cool but not sanctioned.

And the website says (in all caps): LEGENDS OF THE GALAXY IS NOT ENDORSED BY | FANTASY FLIGHT GAMES | STAR WARS | LUCASFILM LTD | OR DISNEY

So no... not FFG, but interesting for sure.

Clicked link, website unavailable (to me).

Interest Level: from "Ooh, cool!" to fizzle in one click.

The website opens up for me. I did just make a DNS change to a new nameservers. Which may mean it did not open for that reason as the DNS has not populated yet.

As far as Fantasy Flight Games involvement. I have sat down with several of the developers and they love it the have expressed interested in playing in it and possibly running games for it too. Last I talked to Sam he was going to talk to Legal about having FFG sponsor it. However, he and I have not spoken since. As I was launching it now without FFG Legal Approval I added the NOT ENDORSED BY to the footer. However, should we get the blessing from Legal then that would be removed and they would team up with me.

Hey... it all looks pretty interesting to me. Probably won't see any of these events happen in Wichita, Kansas, sadly. And since I'm no longer in Minnesota, sitting in on the games there seems out of the question.

Are you wanting people to report grammatical and spelling issues they find on the site? Because honestly, I've already run into a couple.

Edited by Simon Retold

Why do you think no one would do an event it Wichita?

Also please report on spelling errors you see. Post it in the feedback section of the discussion boards on the website.

Grammatical errors seem to be rampant. Just look at the subject of this thread vs the first post, heheh.

I heard a mention of this some months ago from a local D&DAL coordinator, but she doesn't seem to respond to email on the address on her business card. Maybe this isn't the same group.

What was her name?

This is actually pretty awesome, I might talk to my local hobby shop and see about getting them involved.

Not to derail the thread TOO terribly, but I've never really understood the process or appeal of organized play.

Could someone explain it to me? Especially for this system, it feels wasted on the exercise...

It is for people who dont have a group of friends to play that rpg with. It is also a good way to attract new people into the hobby since they can try it without buying first.

It also helps create a feeling of community and a shared universe. D&D did organized play events for years and it brought a lot of new folks into the fold, or gave people a chance to play a game if they didn't know a GM. WotC did one for the old Star Wars d20 game, the DarkStryder game IIRC, and I don't know how successful it was but there were several books published for it.

I've been looking for something like this for a long time. One of the things I liked about the 4e D&D organized play, was that all the adventures and things were handled by the staff; all the rewards were pre-set and advancement was pretty well mapped out from an XP point of view. Allowing many chefs in this sort of thing can be a two-edged sword, so it's nice to see the plan to have organizer adventures. (Matter of fact, I may finally write up a few of the ideas I'd had to put in the forums there - and probably here too.)

I'm watching this program with great interest. :)

Well let us know how we can better support the community?

As everyone has stated Legends of the Galaxy is designed to create community and grow our player base so that people can easily find games. We want to provide tools, community cheat sheets, adventures and so much more.

Feel free to post in the discussion boards and submit adventures and open up games in your local area by posting your own events on the event boards.

We want feedback from the community on how best we can serve you.

Seems really interesting. I hope fantasy flight will support this. Running games at other living campaigns in the past I would suggest that having a system to generate and keep track of players is important and possibly keeping track of credits/XP at least would be good.

I'd personally like to start running something in the boston area we have a lot of living campaign players here.

Well the developers love what we are doing and have even played in Legends of the Galaxy. So we do have positive support. But this is community driven. Would like to see games open on Boston. Let me know how we can support and help you get started.

As for tracking we do have a way. I have a CRM built into the back of the website that assists with XP verification.

There are places for GMs to post adventure results and boards for game discussion.

Why does it feel like a wasted exercise to arrange times/places and adventure modules for people to play through? The system has nothing whatsoever to do with this kind of play.

Hrm. With risk of sounding like a jerk - the system has nothing to with any kind of play. The system is merely a framework for shared storytelling. Some people prefer their own friend circles and have a strong, well-established RPG group. Many do not, and want to be part of a wider community with shared interests.

From a player's side, it can be really nice to have a reliable game to join up with - especially if it's a system most of your friends aren't interested in, you still get a chance to play. From a GM's side, especially when you're new, having that kind of framework and support to develop your abilities is fantastic; even if you've been doing it a while, the intro modules tend to be very simply designed, making it easier to focus on teaching the game. (And from a company standpoint, having basically free advertising and a wide network of product advocates is nothing to sneer at.)

As someone who finally realized there were lots of Other People who played nerdy games thanks to Living Forgotten Realms, I am a great example (or so I think) of how helpful it can be to have that framework. If you don't like the idea, feel free to skip it; but the argument seems to be similar to RPGs vs MMOs.The success of the latter seems to say it's not an idea without merit.
