Skill cards and Weapon Skill vs Target Defense: What does this mean

By rtrockel, in WFRP Rules Questions

When a skill card says "Weapon Skill (or Ballistic Skill) vs Target Defense" are challenge dice ever generated from this part of the card?

When the faq says: "An action that is listed as “vs. Target Defence” is not an opposed check – it is based on the Easy (1d) default difficulty.." what does that even mean? Am I potentially going to generate even more challenge dice if my skill is low enough?

You simply add your normal skill dice (blue/gree/red/yellow/white), add one black die (attacking is an Easy action) and one black die for every point of the target's Defence.

" You simply add your normal skill dice (blue/gree/red/yellow/white), add one black die (attacking is an Easy action) and one black die for every point of the target's Defence."

Do you mean one purple die?

No, I mean one black (misfortune) die per point of Defence (WHFRP page 58).

No he meant one purple die for the Easy action, which is correct by the way...So yo would add one purple and one black.

Ops... sorry I misread. Yes, one Purple for the difficulty and X Black for Defence.

It depends on what's written there... anything "vs Target Defense" defaults to an easy challenge and therefore one purple die. Even a "vs Target Defense" on a spell card must conform to this rule. So if a spell has this it supersedes the normal simple challenge of casting a spell.

So for spells it's simple (d0)

Spells that uses vs Target defense terminology it's easy(d1)

Melee/Ranged- Easy(d1) notice that they all say "vs Target Defense"?

Anything else is either opposed where you use the chart on page 58 or

Unopposed- The challenge dice are based on the difficulty of the task. The GM gets to decide. Two actions have already been decided by the RAW Casting spells ( Simple) and any action that has "vs Target Defense" which is Easy. Although you can change these too, if you really wanted.

Got it?

I think "anything "vs Target Defense" defaults to an easy challenge" throws me off as Defense is a number creatures/foes have and to me this IMPLIES that this is an opposed check. It apparently does not, but I wish this rule was worded a little better.

Thanks for the clarification!
