Is Paul Heaver's worlds list still viable?
Paul Heaver's world's list
Depends for what? Cas play sure. Top tier competition, less so. At least as current meta stands which is dominated by Wolf Pack or Palp Aces.
TLT Y-Wings and Poe vulnerable to ordinance from the wolf pack.
Rebels are in the process of working out new competition builds.
Still just fly it for fun/sh*ts an giggles.
Edited by Imperial MikeYes if you know how to play it .... Paul is world champion not just because of his lists
"My goal was to pick good ships, and fly them well." -Paul Heaver
That's why he won, even in a meta that did have Palp Aces in it. We concentrate on list building here, but flying is the other part of the game, and arguably has much more impact on the outcome.

IIRC he's said himself that Rebels just aren't competitive in the current meta - lists like his Worlds list with regen and stresshogs and blockers were the kind of lists palp/aces struggled with because of its reliance on actions and relatively low damage output, but the massive spike damage and low PS of u-boats has put paid to those sorts of lists PDQ whereas Palp/aces, which can generate 4 evades from a single nonblank result at range 3, can survive u-boats a lot better. Rebels are in a pretty bad place right now at the top levels of competition, as to be fair is anything that isn't u-boats, palp/aces, or a TIE swarm.
Edited by thespaceinvaderSee I wouldn't come to that realization looking at results from regionals worldwide. I think it really comes to how well you fly. Yes It's very probable the list will fall hard to u-boats, but a skilled pilot may be able to outmaneuver them, position themselves to make the game competitive.
I've been having a lot of fun reviving the old trench run gang list
At this point i say no, can be good, but not high tier compatitive

If you see Paul Heaver with this list across from you, are you concerned?
So my assumption is if you see this list across from you, you aren't terribly concerned. At this point i say no, can be good, but not high tier compatitive

When I face off against someone I've never played before, I judge them instantly based off of a few things. How organized are his templates? What's in his squad? And are ppl instantly interested in "what are you flying today?" Based on these things, I know whether to bring my a game or not. So if I saw that list in the hands of a casual player I know? No, not worried, because I know how to out fly and predict a casual. If I saw Paul Heaver with 8 head hunters and no upgrades, I'd start sweating. I fear players, not lists. As matter of fact, with my current tournament list, I PREFER to see Palp aces and uboats across the board from me. Because I know these lists inside and out. They are easy wins for me. It's the home brew lists flown by good players that challenge me. Here's how to be good at xwing. Figure out your play style. Then practice flying those ships. It's that simple. My dad kicks my ass whenever he plays turret ships. Some of my friends are great with aces. Others pull off superb flying maneuvers with swarms. Figure out what you can fly, then fly it ![]()

At this stage, I fly 2-3 list, none of the lists I fear that list anymore. As my lists have changed. For example VCX with Hera and Erza, i don't care about stress with it, you give me stress i get focus to crit and still can make red moves. I still have a lot firepower in that list, VCX, poe, A or Y myself for example.
If you play Uboats, i think that list is not that scary too, you take out poe first most likely if you get a change, take out Y with TLT with no title, and then you can clean house with it.
If i would fly 3 X-Wings, T65 or T70 that list would be worrisome.
But like Beard said, most is Opponent, what he can do with that list.
