Edge of the Empire Bestiary/Adversary Book?

By KnightErrantJR, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I posted this in the Age of Rebellion forum as well, but I'm just wondering if anyone has ever discussed an Edge of the Empire book that focuses just on adversaries, beasts, and bad guys.

I know that the 40K RPG lines all had bestiaries (except for Dark Heresy 2nd), so I was wondering, with a similar publishing plan, if such books wouldn't be possible.

I would assume that in the Edge of the Empire book, you would focus more on port authorities, crime syndicates, bounty hunters, and weird creatures for when the characters traveled to new places (possibly with random "generic" beasts such as Rogue Trader introduced). You could also introduce "named" bad guys unique to the book, representing up and coming crime lords, famous hunters, and the like.

As I said in the AoR thread, one thing I really am not interested in is "Plot Critical" NPCs, like Boba Fett, Vader, and the like.

Just wondering if anyone else would buy a book like this, or if I'm off base. I realize things like droids, equipment, and ships are more likely to be seeded into existing books, but that was true of the 40K line as well, and we still got separate adversary books.

I'd like more cards. Very convenient to sort through a deck and pull out what I need for a session ahead of time and not be page flippin.

Common consensus is that if we see "compendium" books it will be at the very end of the release life of the entire 3 lines. So far it's clear every book has been designed to provide for all players at a table, be those PC's or GM's.

There has been an obvious attempt to keep repeating information to the barest of minimums too. Where rules are repeated between the lines most of the descriptive text is re-written to fit the theme of the book, giving more scope for enriching stories. Species may have the same stat block but the text is entirely different, equipment is entirely narratively changed, NPC's and Beasts are described differently etc.

The next thing to keep in mind is that FFG published compendium books for their WFRPG line, then very soon after ended production of the system.

This all points to FFG being hesitant to print material that may effect the sales of another product, a sensible business decision if you ask me. If they do create a Bestiary, Equipment, Specialisation, Player Species or Vehicle compendium it would also be worthwhile waiting until all the other "original source" books are released

Would I buy the ... Absolutely!

I'd like a big book of named NPCs with who they are and where they are with a little brief write up about background and location to serve as plot seeds, and to help add flavor to sessions.

By "named" I assume you mean non cannon characters created by FFG for their adventures and source books?

There are unofficial community-developed assets in this space, but given what we’ve seen from FFG so far in this line, I don’t think we’re going to see anything like that in SWRPG. At least, not for a long time.

I think what we are more likely to see is more NPC cards, and again there are unofficial community-developed assets there with hundreds of NPCs that are detailed. The cards may not be as pretty as FFG would develop, but there are still lots of choices to pick from.

I'm thinking (hoping) that FFG will be releasing a line of Big Books at the conclusion of their FFG line to take even more of my money. Compendiums of Adversaries, Careers, and Gear, for example.

The number one thing I'd like to see for this game is a compendium of all Careers and Specializations after all 18 Career splats are out.

All 6 Specs for all 18 Careers, plus their Signature Abilities and maybe Force Powers, in one volume.

I do wish they had decided to reprint the talent trees from the core books in each of the Career supplements. 3 extra pages and a dollar more for each book just so I could have everything for a single career in one place would have been great.

A shipbook with all the ships in one place, and a gunbook with all the weapons in one place. Having to trawl through a dozen books is not ideal.

Personally I think such a book will be released as the seeker career in f&d because of the animal bond talents.

Seeker certainly has a bunch of Beasts in it, but its definitely not a tomb of "all" the NPC's
