Requiem

By Funkleton, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Requiem:

"Once per round, when you deploy a ship, you may treat its pilot skill as 8 until the end of the round."

Oh wait - it doesn't say that - it says

When you deploy a ship, treat its pilot skill as “8” until the end of the round.

so if I'm doing what the card says - and not doing what it doesn't say, there's:

No restriction on the number of ships treated as pilot skill 8

No "may" option to treat higher pilot skill ships as their correct pilot skill - everything is ps8

Did I miss a meeting on this one ?

Am I just having a brainfart after a busy day at work?

Ummm... there's no upgrade called Requiem to the best of my knowledge...

Funkleton, it sounds like you have it right. What's the issue? Does someone online have the wrong card text?

Oh herp derp epic ships.

Sorry.

Yep, no restrictions on the number of ships you make PS8 with this upgrade. But it's not optional, so any PS9+ ships you deploy ALSO become PS8...

... and any ships you might WANT to shoot as late as possible (Vader on a TIE shuttle?) won't be able to.

I guess if you have aces or anomalies like that, take a different title?

No - it just that in my head, I assumed that the intended meaning of the card was just one ship, and that it didn't apply to higher ps - but now that I've read it again it seems pretty clear that I could potentially launch 4 academy TIES in a single turn (provided I have engine booster equipped) and they all get PS8

That's a VERY powerful card (albeit a one trick pony) for just 4 points

It can be.

I suspect the best use for it is with Bombers somehow, but getting them the locks they need before they fire would be challenging.

It can be, but in practice it's sometimes hard to find room for two fighters to deploy, let alone four, especially if you're only able to do all four because you're using Engine Booster (better hope the first two to deploy cleared the front!). Add to that the fact that Requiem gives zero bonus energy, and I think it's probably still balanced.
