Han and Luke (crew)

By Mackaywarrior, in X-Wing Rules Questions

If I attack and decide to reroll all my dice and still miss, for my second attack that is triggered by Luke can I reuse Han's pilot ability?

Yes you can. You can use Han's ability on each attack he makes. Luke doesn't actually perform the attack he simply lets you perform another attack with Han.

That's really "Han"dy. Get it? "Han"...dy? Han? .... Ima let myself out.

Restrictions on abilities are invariably stated very clearly - look for phrases in the card text such as "once per round"

Thats the whole wombo-han-luke-pred-combo that made fathat fathan:

Roll>reroll with pred or han>use luke if miss>reroll with with pred or han. If you haven't done single damage with that gods of dice hate you :D

Unfortunately, I've been there before. Too many damned times!

Wouldn't this fall under the "dice can only be rerolled once" rule, or would Han's ability override it? If you rolled for attack, then predator rerolled a die, would you have to reroll all dice if you chose to use Han's ability?

You would have to reroll all the dice you could - but the one you had already Predatored would be ineligible to be rerolled.

or

To bring it back around to the original question, the prohibition on rerolling a die more than once doesn't prevent you from using Han's pilot ability on both the original attack and the Luke attack. Those are different dice pools, so as far as the game is concerned, they're not the same dice.

Actually - you CAN reroll with Han and Predator... And on rare occasions it is useful.

Let's take the example that you're attacking an out of arc turtled up with FFE+AT+Palp. You're not going to hit him unless you get at least 3 hits, and even then it's dicey. You naturally roll Hit Hit Blank Blank, you reroll a blank with predator and get another blank. You CAN (and presumably may want to) reroll the HIT HIT BLANK with Han's ability, hoping that you get the 12.5% chance that you naturally get 3 hits, ending the attack hit hit hit blank. Again, this is only useful if 2 hits are a throw away (as it would be in a 1 on 1 scenario against Fel there).

If you don't get the 12.5% natural roll, Luke kicks in, and you can use predator and/or Han's ability again.

Another example of using both predator and han is:

natural roll of blank blank hit > reroll blank into hit with predator> reroll hit and blank with han (as the other hit is locked by pred) > then 25% chances to roll hit hit for 3 hits total, 50% chances to stay at 2 hits total, and 25% to stay at 1 hit that usually leads to luke.

Again this combo is designed to maximize amount of hits, as most of the times 2 hits are pretty good.
