I also like using Small plastic Crystals in the engine nacelles to give off a glare when the light hits them....

And here you can see the Difference Between the Standard and the Modified Scum Yt :P

Do you have any manufacturer's info on the crystals? That's a very nice touch to the engine glow technique.

Yeah i love those engines. Ive never heard of those beads before, closest i know are glass droplets (same idea, made of glass, much larger though usually about the size of a US penny)

I also wish i could paint this well. Ships have never been my forte, im more fantasy (even my Tau for 40k are a bit odd but i kinda did that on purpose lol). All ive been able to do to my ships is add highlights and pips that make it look less flat but ultimately still the same thing.

Those little crystals are at most "hobby lobby" and similar places.

In the jewelry making and clothes decorating aisle.lots of different colors. They are on a sheet like stickers.

And yes...what he's done with them is awesome

These are all outstanding, well done!

I'm curious, where do you get the extra pieces? From other xwing ships; or from just any small scale stuff you come across?

That is ******* genius!!!

Beautiful! But doesn't that new cockpit severely limit the YT-2400 pilot's field of vision?

Barry, your work is phenomenal!

Any chance we could get a Starviper mod tutorial?

These are basically what I have been using for years on my Sci-fi ship models.

In the right context, they work really well.

some of them are sticky backed, but I always remove this and glue them in.

Hope this helps you guys.

All the best,

Barry.

Well yes it is other Xwing models,

also I use various star wars kits, Tanks, Battleships and other sci-fi kits.

for instance the widebody Ywing has the main body from a small Snap Fast Star Trek maquis raider

and the rear pieces are air inlets from a 1/35 Challenger Tank.

I have boxes full of Bits, and I tend to have them spread out on the table in front of me.

then pick and choose what looks good.

The Scum YT has half kit bash parts and the rest scratchbuilt from styrene strip for the Thrust Vector engine nacelles.

its just a case of having enough bits.

and seeing what looks good.

All the best,

Barry

I have been asked a few times to do a tutoriol.

And yes, when i buy another model....I will :D

Great Scum collection, Barry!

I like your conversion style, but the most impressive is the YT.

Thanks Nacho,

That was the first one I did, and its also still my Favorite.

I'm looking at doing a heavy modification to the Jumpmaster, it will change the shape of the model what I have planned.

and the VCX100 Ghost.

I really want to do a full on custom of that model as well.

Thanks again and all the best,

Barry.

Well not really.

its a Tandem cockpit, so the pilots head is above the two side pods.

the idea is also that he gets a view in front and below....Like a Helicopter.

Think of the Awing to the side view but not as wide on the side pods.

and being able to view in front and down past your feet.

that was the idea.

More like a Fighter Cockpit and not a transporter.

Set up for Attack and high speed maneuvering with the over sized thrust vectoring engines.

the side pod, Cockpit.

has its own engine and would be able to detach, allowing the Droid co'pilot "that's the centre section with the green and red eye"

and four sensor prongs. to fly the main body.

Hope that gives you some kind of idea behind the thinking and look of the model :D

Your painting is just ridiculous. Some of your shots against a white background look like CGI rather than models.

FIRESPRAY Modification,

This is a different take on the Firespray.

I wanted to do something that would take it far away from what it originally looked like,

but still recognizable.

Im actually not a Fan of the way the Firespray looks, never really liked it since seeing it in Empire.

But I like what it can do on the Gaming table.

And looking at a friends model one day I thought........Hmmmm if I modded this and that.

I could make it look something very different and more Aggressive.

So I started by cutting and shaping some wings in card stock to get the idea out of my head

and see what it looks like on the model.......

I5131d.jpg

QYW50Q.jpg

Once I had decided on the Wing idea.

I pulled apart the model so I could pivot point for the new wing stabilizers and stand.

B6ECGK.jpg

qP7T9C.jpg

Edited by Barry Harker

Pivot shaft built into the model for the wings to slot into.

and be removable for storage.

37tU5f.jpg

mCRoEM.jpg

I also wanted to completely re-do the engine layout, new bigger thrusters and air breathing intakes on the side fuselage of the body

Hy7P4Q.jpg

You can see in the back ground shots.......my Large collection of "Bits" lots of pieces of various model kits from Tanks, Battleships Vehicles and

other Star Wars Kits........Kit Bashing......the way they Originally did it :D

B4NRe9.jpg

Edited by Barry Harker

The Wing Pivot shaft and stand support finished and in place.....

FkV9hT.jpg

Now starting to Add detail on the body and cockpit, wings and lower stabilizer....

jx23mB.jpg

My new stand now fits in nicely behind the wing stabilizer and engine carapace ramp exit/entry

The new stand also need to be much longer as the model sits taller on the stand......

my8jtk.jpg

Edited by Barry Harker

The Model now breaks down into pieces for easy storage, as the model now has a large wing span.

XcRnHO.jpg

The wings are able to rotate, and show how the Ship would land. you can also see the much larger new Weapon pods.

05JGFf.jpg

Stand and wing pivot shafts work well.....
