Treebeard + Elrond is fantastic. My personal list includes Glorfindel to use with Asfaloth and whatnot, but really almost any deck with these 2 heroes is competent. And after the cycle's over, it'll become even better. Just play Ioreth for 0, play Sword-thain with Vilya on her and heal 4 damage each turn essentially for free.

I've seen Sword-thain + Ioreth mentioned a few times but I don't get it. If it's in order to get an extra lore resource each round to pay for her ability, why not just use Resourceful? It has the advantage that you could play multiple copies if you desired, and it doesn't prevent someone else from using Sword-thain.

Now if you plan to load her up with readying attachments, that's a different story.

Well, I was speaking from the coolness standpoint really, but you're totally right. Unexpected Courage is a no-brainer, although personally I only have 2 of them and they will most likely go on Elrond and Treebeard themselves. Thankfully, Miruvor I think is pretty decent for her, as if you don't get the combo early you can use it on the heroes and get it back when you got Ioreth with Sword-thain.

Ioreth is the best for Sailing tests.
