Two Dodonna variations

By MandalorianMoose, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hey everyone, attached are two Dodonna lists I've been toying with recently. I used the first one yesterday and went 8-2 against both a tr90c ackbar swarm and an ISD/ 2 glads build. I'm really happy with how it's operates, but it does require some pretty exact flying to make sure you don't go poof, those mc30's are very vulnerable in main arcs. Let me know what you guys think. The second iteration drops one of the 30's for a tr90c and upgrades one scout to a torpedo for some actual long range firepower as well.

Interesting we have had more than a couple Dodonna builds get posted today. I like that we are intent on making the old man work!

I haven't had much luck with MC30 spams. I've bought a lot of them for the TRC's, so I have tried, but they just never seem to perform on the table as well as they do in my glittering Dodonna Critastic imagination. They get torn apart by Rhymerballs, they are each individually worth a ton of points tricked out so losing even one or two greatly diminishes both your damage output and the likelihood of getting a win unless you table, and at the end of the day I can't escape the feeling they just don't do Demolishers job as well as Demolisher.

That said, I can say I now use the Scout almost exclusively, while when I started trying to make them work I used the Torp, so I think your scout option is on the right track. I would just try playing it against a good rhymerball and seeing how you fare. Maybe you drive it way way better than me, and if so that is awesome!

To be honest, both lists I faced only had 4 to 6 squads, a dedicated carrier build could definitely give me a headache. On the other hand, they rarely top more than 3 activations so I could hopefully use that to my advantage to keep out of bomber range until I'm ready to strike. I've found the key to running the MC30 swarm (for me at least) is to come at your target (usually their main ship, or a smaller one to try and snag activation advantage if needed) from multiple vectors. This can really screw with an opponent, who can only turn one direction to chase after you. That was my thought with including the foresight scout and tr90c in the second list. I could cut across the face of the enemy formation with them throwing some TRC reliable reds (backed by intel officer), giving me a better opportunity to swing around and into the sides/rear with the torps.

I love that he is so cheap too. You get SOOO much more bang for your buck than the Imperial costing equivalent Ozzel imho.

So I had a chance to fly the second version tonight and it was sooo much fun! I love the long range forepower, and how reliable the Reds become with TRC, it was my first time actually playing with them.

In theory I like this build. But wouldn't some fighters to tie up a rhymer ball or other squadrons make them more effective? I played a 300 point game with a similar build with Dodonna but threw in 98 points in squadrons and found them effective b/c I diversified my squadrons (Dash, B's, and A's).
