ISD lighting mod WIP

By victariand, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

Ive been working on doing a fiber optics pass on my imperial fleet and Ive been working on an ISD. So far I've had good luck installing fiber in the hull and the leds in the engine housings - though ill probably switch the windows over to white rather than blue.

Anyway, I've run into a bit of a roadblock and I wanted to see if anyone has taken apart the bridge for an ISD. I've no idea how it goes together and I am reluctant to straight up cut it apart for fear of damaging it. Could anyone offer any guidance on how to disassemble the bridge (or how it fits together?)

Thanks!

The Bridge itself is essentially 3 pieces, plus the Shield Generators. (Which are straight Plugs).

The ISD Bridge is the same as the victory bridge - the Top, front and rear of the actual bridge section is one piece - with a U-shaped "floor" piece, that plugs into the Bridge Stand.

Its very tricky to get apart, because its very flimsy... I. Um. Gave up trying when it started to snap. So I can't furnish you with complete details.

I decided I'd need a second ISD to really try.

Hey, I've taken one apart, lighted it, and put it back together successfully (the bridge of the ISD, that is). I agree with Drasnighta about the pieces, but if you're careful, it can be done with a minimum of fuss. It will distort a little, but mine came out without breaking. I drilled my 0.5mm holes, ran my fiber optic, and put it back together with not too much trouble. One word of advice I'd give is to bore out a hole on either side at the front-top of the "neck" of the ISD a little so you can run your optics into the holes on either side, then down that column. It makes for a much cleaner assembly.

Here's a somewhat blurry snap of the progress:

To further elaborate on anyone who would attempt this in the future... I would highly advise you to mark any locations for hole-drilling before you disassemble the hull of the ISD. It becomes really hard to visualize in the abstract once the whole thing is in pieces.

Holy necro Supernova. And as a reply to a dude that created an account to specifically ask that question and hasn't said anything since 2016. You sure you didn't want to just show off your bridge?

PS - what the heck are you talking about abstract visualization once the ISD is torn apart?
