Maybe give them a boost die or upgrade to their Initiative rolls, when facing organic opponents?

I’m sure that this sort of thing has already been covered by one of the existing talents, so I’d encourage you to look at the list and pick one that sounds good. If you can’t find one, then pick one that sounds close enough, and make minor tweaks to bring it to where you want.

But as a racial ability, I don’t think it should do more than add a boost die or maybe provide an upgrade.

Honestly, I wouldn't give them any sort of "special trait" in that respect.

Treat them as a standard Human, and make sure they start with at least one rank in Vigilance, whether it be a career skill or one of their bonus non-career skill ranks.
