Has anyone removed the fins on the triple 6? I'm thinking of doing this to aid in storage and use magnets to reattach them.
Removing fins on the yv-666
I read and looked at several pics/vids about this, and decided to go with the solution of removing the whole tail section rather than just the fins...both mine came away fairly easily [one more so than the other] after 10-15 mins fairly energetic twisting and bending...you just have to not be scared when you hear that first rending "Crack" !! ![]()
Once they were off, I find that they are both more than secure enough for play just push-fitting them back again [so no need for magnets] - having the body shorter makes storage even easier, and the rear body/fin section only takes up about as much space as a K-wing - I store the two tail in one compartment, and the two main bodies in another ![]()
...but if you wanted to particularly go the fin/magnet route so that they can be repositioned during play, will be interested to hear others thoughts and experiences.
Cheers
Yeah man just gently wiggle it and the whole tail will come off. It has a good male/female plug that you can attach mags to. The main body and the tail are evenly separate pieces.

They pop off easily as noted, and if you want to just make it easier to store, that's all you need to do.
But if you want to turn them round, to make the ship look better (and it does make it look a lot better IMO) then magnets are the best way to go as it's not easy to get it to sit centred if you don't magnetise.
Here's mine using 8x1mm disc magnets, which fit neatly into the servo-bits on the underside of the fins if you cut them off where they join the semicircular bits which attach to the centre bit. Man I'm using expressive language, the images are clear though I think. I popped the wings off to start off with, and the centre bit is still only a friction fit, but it holds on just fine. When I come to paint it, I'll probably glue it back down.
At some point I'll paint this.
Edited by thespaceinvaderThanks for finding this! I tried searching and either came up with zero hits or every mention of YV.
Thanks for the responses! As mentioned above, my search results were less than useful last night.
Glad I waited before attempting the surgery. Didn't figure on the plug as the attachment for the tail. It would've been a major FUBAR if I had proceeded.
Thanks again!
