Aces vs uBoats

By Krynn007, in X-Wing

Ya Its like beating a dead horse but I'm curious

I haven't flown, or been up against a tripple uBoat, or even double uBoats and friends.

I hear that pal ace lists can do well against them, but I'm curious what the strategy people use.

I'm also wondering which type of ace list would do better or worse

Fel/Vader

Whisper/omega

Inquisitor/wampa/omega

Inquisitor/fel

How do these four types of lists fair against a tripple u boat player?

I assume (again never playing against a uBoats build) that a uBoats player would likely want to set up 2 on the on the right side since his left banks are green and sloop is white, and have one off center right.

Is this how a typical uBoat player will set it up?

I assume so, but maybe I'm wrong

I've played against pretty much every other type of lists with the exception of uBoats, so just looking for tips as to what to expect.

I figure with uBoats they are 3 large bases so getting all 3 to shoot at one target not an easy feat.

I can't help feel uBoats requires less skill than to fly a Imperial ace list.

So do you slow play, let the uBoats come to you, or make a dash to get in behind them asap, or bait and switch

Use Vader or omega as the bait and flank in behind with fel or whisper?

I played recently against a U Boat, a Bump Master and a Slaver with Zuckuss. I thought I would be acey and try and flank them... dumbest thing I could have done. It was my second game in a store championship and I had never flown against them before. What I should have done is placed opposite them and used the rule of 11 to get to range 1 before they fired the torpedoes.

Slaver Zuckuss just shot, made you reroll your evades and collected stress like it was going out of fashion, but as evades are hard to get normally rerolling a few here and there kills your aces quick.

My list was

Vader

Carnor Jax

Inquisitor.

It was the only game I lost for the day, it frustrates me in hindsight that I think I know what I have should have done and havent had the chance to try it. I think using rule of 11 is key, if Jax can get to range one in the second turn, means they cant do focus actions, so lose the bonus of the Agromech. Also means I should be able to get behind them and stay out of arc or at rng 1.

Now maybe I'm wrong which is why I asked the questions.

But a key to beat it I assumed was position asteroids somewhat tight and try to get them to fight in there

Less chance of him getting multiple shots, and if lucky no action or shot

But if I'm wrong please advise.

Which again us why I started this thread.

I think I'll try using tripple uBoats Tonight on vassal just for the experience. Only way to get to know them is use our go up against, so my apologies to my opponent in advance

But to be honest I really hate them, I can't help feel it looks like easy mode.

As a Imperial player I feel as though they require a lot less skill, which is why they are so prevalent

but unfortunately they are plenty so best to learn them inside and out
