If the Vong were burned, scoured, utterly eliminated from all of living memory it would only be a good thing.

In-universe depictions of how the Empire ain't evil is cute and all, but I'm not talking in-universe but in real life. Looking at it as a story, the Empire is evil, Palpatine is the Big Bad Evil Guy, Vader is the Right-Hand Man, and the Rebellion are noble. Don't, uh, get those confused, or else someone might try applying well-known psychiatric techniques.

While this was IMO without doubt the 8ntention of the original trilogy, the rest of Canon added quite a bit of grey to that black and white picture.

The Rebellion is also a group of anarchists opposing the Galaxy's elected government. Palpatine's true nature as a Sith Lord is a secret (AFAIK it's not known to the leaders of the Rebellion) and he was voted as both Supreme Chancellor and Emperor. So, as far as they know, the rebels simply decide to disregard democratic principles because they dislike the outcome.

Also, in practice, the Rebellion is quite human-centric too. Apart from Ackbar isn't the whole rebel leadership human?

Going back to prequels there's also some things the Republic/Jedi did one would have a hard time classifying as 'good'.

The Vong to me were Jumping the Shark Star Wars style.

... Jumping the rancor?

More like Jumping the Sarlaac
