Advanced Defenders

By WarriorPoet, in X-Wing Squad Lists

This week, I played around with building lists that utilise the TIE Advanced and Defender, since their pilots' abilities seem to have some synergy. I don't know how competitively viable these are, but just wanted to see if I could tweak something that would synergise well and be fun to fly - and maybe become a menace if I fly it well enough. This is the first of the two lists I created; I'll post the second list after I get home from church.

Comments & critiques much appreciated.

"Yay, target locks!"

Darth Vader: 32

TIE Advanced X1 (29)

Calculation (1)

Adv. Targeting Computer (5)

TIE/x1 (0)

Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

Colonel Vessery: 40

TIE Defender (35)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Ion Cannon (3)

Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

TIE/D (0)

Commander Alozen: 28

TIE Advanced (25)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Adv. Targeting Computer (5)

TIE/x1 (0)

Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

Total: 100

I'd drop Alozen for Omega Leader and dump calculation and Twin ion mk 2 on Vader for engine upgrade.

That's not really what I'm going for with this build; I'd like to stick with Defenders and Advanced, and particularly, those that like having target locks (which Omega Leader does, but s/he's flying the wrong ship for this list).

And credit where credit is due: I read Biophysical's assessment of the upcoming Defenders when he first posted it, so those thoughts were in the back of my mind as I was building this.

So it looks like you are going for more of a target lock/crit damage synergy, and to maximize that. Why not try:

TIE Advanced: · Maarek Stele (27)

Push The Limit (3)

Engine Upgrade (4)

TIE/x1 (0)

Advanced Targeting Computer (1)

TIE Advanced: · Lieutenant Colzet (23)

XX-23 S-Thread Tracers (1)

Guidance Chips (0)

TIE/x1 (0)

Advanced Targeting Computer (1)

TIE Defender: · Colonel Vessery (35)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Ion Cannon (3)

Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

TIE/D (0)

With Colzet on there, you can make even regular hull damage turn into a severe detriment to the opponent. It also makes things like integrated astromech and Chewie ability not able to hard counter the strategy. Maarek has the ability to choose the crit that goes on there, and because he now shoots after Vessery, there's a better chance the ATC crit will hit the hull and trigger his ability. Thread Tracers serve a better purpose than they normally would in this list, as it will allow him to have a target lock to spend for his ability, or keep for ATC.
