Didn't get into top 8, too sad. Really, this would have been incredible, but I guess he couldn't dodge the U-Boats forever.
4 HWKs just went 6-0 at the Yavin Open in the UK
Dangit. Scouts should theoretically have been counter-able too, with the right range management. ![]()
(I mean, I'll admit that I'm not good enough to pull it off consistently, but nor am I mad enough to bring four of them to a tournament...)
Sad day today, went to bed hoping the Scum Taxi Co. would bring us more joy.
Four TLTs vs three Scouts is like cancer eating cancer.
I wonder who had initiative?
If I lost initiative (which is what I'd probably want in that match-up), I'd have put my two 1's at either end of my deployment area facing each other. Then, wait to see how the Scouts deployed, and stack the remaining Hawks with whichever Spicer was furthest from the Scouts.
The solo Hawk would then red-line it back the others whilst they move into whatever the best attack posture is for that list and hopefully the Scouts have to contend with obstacles while trying to either get an easy kill on the solo or set up their own attack run on the main body of the Hawk squad.
If the opponent choose to ignore the solo, then it could play a harassing role and hopefully coax one Scout out of formation, keeping it out of the main fight for as long at possible.
the scout player had initiative. the asteroid placement was L shaped and helped neither player. i think the hwk player should have made a centre cluster and used these in his approach. it is suicide to run right into an aplha strike from 3 scouts.
some credit should go to the scout player for setting up his ships how he did. by approaching from directly across from the hwks he effectively gave him little option in the first three turns.if hed veered left and run he would have been quickly caught in a killing zone. i wonder if the hwk payer considered splitting into two groups?

When those TLTs are equipped on what is among the most maligned ships in the game, I will allow it.
The only way I could like this list more is if one of those HWK pilots was Dace Bonearm.

El Cancer!
In his own words "I blundered". The 8th game was against Palp Aces which he didn't play well. His opponent flew very well and managed a number of range 3 shots of 1 ship vs 1 ship. Mark had a choice at one stage where he could have increased speed to go kill the shuttle but he didn't. It was the wrong choice.
Having said that the game finished with a 1 hp TAP vs a healthy Spice Runner with Dengar crew. The TAP survived 2 rounds of TLT fire on 1 hp.
The 9th game was against 2 crack shot, glitterstim, hlt brobots. Mark blundered again not turning in towards them early on. Brobots got behind and managed some nice range 3 shots where only some of the hawks were in range.
Wow. I love it. Just awesome. 4 TLT HWKS.

Sure, there is some amount of groupthink going on, but some options are just flat out bad. Expose will always be a bad card, it will never be worth taking. Fel's Wrath will always be a useless pilot. Saboteur will always be a terrible crew choice.

It would be cool if we had another term to describe general knowledge and competence in game play. (I like Veteran - but that garners resentment from some people) Meta is a right term, but it is also an over used term that has been somewhat distorted by the general masses.
Meta does not mean rule of play...

Yep true - some choices are just flat out bad.
However, what I think we may be seeing in this meta is a broad range of experimentation which is turning some conventional wisdom on it's head.
T-65s? Hawks? Who'd a thunk it????
OK, I don't see a M3-A Swarm taking out a regional but I'm happy to see some creative thinking going on.
So Good Pilot + Bad Ships > Average Pilot + Good Ships, but Good Pilot + Bad Ships < Good Pilot + Good Ships. This was an easy to predict outcome.
I like the Scum HWKs as much as the next guy, but I think that just Palob and Torkil would have been enough to anchor the list, with the Spice Runners being picked just to prove that "HWKs are good enough to win by themselves" when... that patently wasn't the case. On top of that, TLTs and Palob's/Torkil's abilities aren't very compatible. Dorsals would have been stronger.
I'm not sure who to match them with, though. Something to draw fire away from them so they can do some work, and that would fire before them. Maybe a Plasma Torp Dengar?

I think that is the biggest problem many people have is not thinking out side the box and focus to much on wanting the win so much they will copy what works for others and don't look for combos that can win with. I have had grate success with Blaster Turret, Expose and the other 1 point EPTs that arnt crackshot or VI
It can work, all of it.

Mark wasn't expecting to win. You are correct to a degree that it was picked to see how well 4 hawks on their own would do. He couldn't attend the invitational event and therefore wasn't too worried about trying to be optimal.

Expose on a Decimator with experimental interface is not a bad card in my experience.

I don't fly a Decimator often but when I do I fly this...
Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)
Expose (4)
Rebel Captive (3)
Ysanne Isard (4)
Experimental Interface (3)
Total: 60

I'm not knocking him for his choice, you must understand - I just would have enjoyed having a slightly more versatile list that had a better chance of crushing everyone and showing the power of a properly used Scum HWK, along with some other less-used options. A fat Guri, maybe? A pair of Tansarii Point Vets with Manglers? Maybe Talonbane and a blocking Z?

It's a build that works I've beaten a-wing swarms with it they get in close to use prokets and eat a five attack shot to the face wiping them out.
