FFG bring N1-Starfighter to X-Wing.

By JimbonX, in X-Wing

Size matters not.

The N-1 is a relic by the time of the GCW, even before it's basically a Z-95 with a tuned engine and chrome finish.

A relic? Do we have any reason to suppose they weren't being properly maintained? I don't remember whether they mentioned that in the comics, but I remember they survived while heavily outnumbered by TIEs.

I don't think the age matters if they have been well maintained. I assume the primary attack of the ARCs without title reflects lack of maintenance. If it reflects technological development improving weapon power by fifty percent in twenty years then a hundred years ago their ships must have had basically no weapons at all!

No, none of the Royal Starship varations are carriers, and I dont WANT a carrier, I just want the E1 version as a command vessel, giving proper support to the squadron in the form of Target Locks, or Stress relief. The ship wouldnt be a HUGE epic ship either, it is really not that much larger then the Falcon or Ghost.

I think he's referring to this:

Not a carrier, but capable of deep space refuelling/charging fighters. There has to be a mechanic based around that!

I love that ship, possibly more than ARCs...

An Alliance Overhaul for the J-Type should give it a Cannon slot. Easily room to mount one! No primary weapon though, so if you lose the Cannon through Boba Fett or whatever, you're buggered.

They are docked so it is as much of a carrier as Gozanti

It even has the slits for cannons. Cross sections say those are for headlights, but that's suspicious, why would you need four of them?

Try carrying an unpowered fighter using its refuelling nozzles and let me know how that goes.

Thats the wrong ship, but I agree, just replace the lights :)

Edit: wrong ship for the one that refuels N1s anyway.

I'd settle for Torpedo Launchers on the J-type if you NEED to give it weapons. But honestly the other one with the wings I hated, it looked to much like something that could exist in the real world and fly. If I wanted Realistic looking planes I would be playing a different table top title, and no where's near a starwars forum.

Just tried it, sadly the fighter was to heavy for me to carry, but I'm not a Naboo diplomatic barge, so I don't see the point of this experiment.

The book says it can carry the fighters through hyperspace, entering and exiting which seem to involve acceleration and decceleration.

STOP SODDING QUOTING THE **** COMIC!

Why? it IS canon so it IS legit...

I think mazz0 explained that the meaning of this post was due to it showing up 50 times in this thread due to quotes and ballooning the number of pages one needs to scroll through more than questioning the canonicity of said comic.

Your dial is an interesting compromise.

The ship looks like it handles like a dream sports car. Thanks for making the grid/dial.

I don't think that the majority of naysayers on this board are so much against the N1 itself as they are against the N1 that you're trying to create.

You're pretty much making a ship that is more maneuverable than the TIE Interceptor and A-Wing, nearly as durable as the TIE Defender, a double attack like the TIE/D, a double action ability for any of the pilots, and Tech and System upgrades despite there being no evidence for those kinds of upgrades in a >half century old snubfighter and all that at a cost cheaper than vanilla Darth Vader. Admiral Zaarin is spinning in his Legends grave wondering why he couldn't have designed a fighter like that.

I'm trying to crunch some numbers comparing this design to other ships in the game, but my calculator keeps coming back with a Matt Ward error.

Precisely.

I played a proxied game with N-1's. Was Hella fun!

We gave em every action except Cloak & SLAM (and Coordinate). 2Attack 2Agility 2Hull 2Shield...

Dial exactly like a TIE Defender, with a White 4 K Turn changing the Reds(1,2 Turns) to White....adding a Green 1 Straight and a Red 3 S-Loop.

20 base points for PS3.

We made two Title cards (now we probably would make a Dual)

Title

After you perform an action, if you executed a Green maneuver this round, you may perform 1 free action shown in your action bar. You cannot equip any Elite upgrades.

Title
Increase your Agility value by 1. You cannot equip any Modification upgrades.
5 (can't remember, maybe 3) points.
(Edit: someone refreshed my memory, changed a few numbers)

why not just make your fist title an ept? And your second is a permanent stealth device.

I'm curious to know how you got 20 points, and if you really think it's worth that?

What book? If we have a canon source then fine, I was just going by that picture which seemed to suggest they had their own hyperdrives and only connected for recharging.

Wrong. The Weapon stats are a relative number compared to ships from the civil war.

A ship centuries old could very well have weapons and still have 0 Attack because the weapons couldn't punch through civil war era shields.

Somewhat doubtful, when the Arc-170, Z-95, YT-1300, Firesprat and Y-Wing all were entirely serviceable ships 20 years later. In fact it's very likely that the opposite was true. The Clone Army was a lot better equipped, the TIE really couldn't compare to a lot of it's fighters. However it was cheep and what they needed was a lot of ships fast as the had to subjugate the galaxy.

In the book in your picture.

"Previously, Naboo N-1 fighters operating far from home could only travel in small steps, accompanied by a tanker" Clearly it's no longer the case:

"(...) thereby enabling the ship to carry it's own escort through hyperspace"

It was all for FUN. That's how we figured it.

I guess the Naboo never heard of Hyperspace rings. Or building actual long range fighters.

Dude, the Republic is thousands of years old. If technology has been advancing at a rate like that then they wouldn't exist in corporeal form.

I took that as meaning by refuelling them between jumps. It does the job of the tanker.

Being a pacifist society why would they need to? Royal ships can provide transport through hyperspace (through some means) and the Republic can handle any policing duties outside of the Naboo system.

That being said, I still question why a planet that has chosen not to even field an army would choose to create a fighter as powerful as galactic governments or interstellar criminal cartels? Maybe Tarkin did pick the wrong target to showcase the Death Star's might? Although it might have raised a couple of eyebrows when the Empire claimed that Palp's homeworld was a den of Rebel activity.

They don't need a full army as they are a peaceful planet with no civil wars going on or anything.

They do however need to protect important people like their queen or senator when going about the galaxy. Hence why they made a capable yet elegant starfighter to escort their transports.

Plus it's not like they kept a large fleet of them. Just a few squadrons at most.
