Remaining Possible Ships

By Swusn, in Star Wars: Armada

With the Wave 4 announcement I have seen some people mention that FFG is running out of ships that where in service during the Galactic Civil War. With the help of some redittors I have complied a list of all the ships that we have seen on screen that were in service during the galactic civil war. Note there are even more mentioned in books and comics that are not included.

Just a little list of the remaining ships and fighters that have appeared on screen that are not in the game yet.

Rebel

Dornean Gunship

Hammerhead Corvette

Pelta Class Frigate

VCX-100 Light Freighter

Z-95 Headhunter - ok, this one technically only appeared on screen during the clone wars era but I want it so bad

Shadow Caster

Imperial

Arquitens Class light cruiser

Inquisitor’s TIE Advanced

Super Star Destroyer

Lambda Class Shuttle

Sentinel class landing craft

protectorate star-fighter

Venator Class Star Destroyer *May still be used in backwater imperial systems

Both or unknown during the GCW

Quasar Fire class cruiser/carrier

Star Commuter Shuttle

Arc 170 *In use by the rebels during the GCW according to FFG.

Counselor class Cruiser

Federation Battleship *Could theoretically be in service in some rebel cells or third parties.

Providence Class Dreadnought *Could theoretically be in service in some rebel cells or third parties.

Munificent-class star frigate *Could theoretically be in service in some rebel cells or third parties.

Acclamator class assault ship *Could theoretically be in service in Imperial systems or third parties.

This list also excludes ships from the new trilogy as I do not think/hope FFG will start including those ships until most of the above are in game and/or we see more ships than just the Resurgent class.

Id actually like to know for definite what the official policy is now the expanded universe has been relegated to legends or whatever its called.

I don't think it would make much financial sense for Disney to forbid the use of EU stuff.

There is so much good stuff from the EU they would be mad not to use it, or there will just be unofficial kits either way.

They recently brought out the K-Wing for the X-wing game I believe, which suggests the EU stuff is still a possibility (and there has been stuff from the EU in Armada already but Im not sure if that was pre-Disney)

Hmm the problem I see Is that rebels mostly have fighters remaining for a capital ship game.

What FFG does is Official, but Non-Canon. Everything must be approved.

That means that Legends can be taken from, however, that does not make it Canon in any way, shape or form, or mean anything to the greater advancing story...

Simple as that.

FFG has the whole breadth of Legends to choose from, but it will all be subject to Disney and LFL saying "That's Too Crazy" at any time.

Do you guys think will stick to a certain time range ? Or will we see fleets with Luke in a battle with ships / characters who pre-date him by hundreds / thousands of years. If they go EU and also allow for ships from the past (KOTOR etc) then they would have a lot more variety to draw from.

FFG has stated a preference (very strong preference) in the past to keep things Around the Original Trilogy Timeline... Which would include TFA as well, given the situation...

But you are much, much more likely to see Clone Wars era, before they go any further back. And even that's a long shot.

The Rebels have far more "onscreen" ship types than the Imps. Such is the nature of a hodgepodge resistance fleet. This also explains why Imperials have only 2 Canon ships pre-wave 3, and only one of those ever got screen time.

They still have 4 capital ships in the list and I am sure more are coming :)

Agreed. Athough the empire still does have a couple of on screen ships that we will most likely see in the next two waves.

I do think FFG will have to stretch to get more Imperial ships after the next two waves but I am working under the assumption that onscreen ships will be easier to get approved by Disney as their appearance is already fairly widely known.

Anything from other canon sources may be a bit harder (especially if we have no canon visual reference) but still not too difficult. Anything from the EU that has not been brought into canon will probably be far more difficult to get approved (fear not EU fans James Luceno brought a lot of EU ships into canon by mentioning them in his novel "Tarkin").

Wave 3 and 4 for Armada include only on screen ships. Wave 9 for Xwing also includes only on screen ships. From a marketing standpoint sticking to on screen ships makes sense for both FFG and Disney/Lucas.

I would expect we would see on screen options for future waves before older legends designs.

Don't forget the DP-20 Gunship and the Heavy Dreadnaught.

Although we know non canon ships are in game I suspect that moving forward we will see mostly canon ships and more specifically canon ships that have been seen on screen.

Lucas Film Licencing has to approve all ships and I think they are more likely to approve ships that have been seen in movies and TV before they approve other ships.

That being said I fully expect Dave Filloni to keep throwing EU ships into Rebels and Authors of the novels and comic books to keep bringing in EU ships so these are both possible in the future but I doubt we will see them anytime soon.

Where was the AFmk2 other than Empire at War?
