Trials and tribulations of a nube....

By Randyman, in Player community

I started playing this wonderful game about two weeks ago and finally - on the 9th try - beat Anduin !!

I am playing single handed solo with just the CORE set and the single sphere, 30 card decks that come with it. I thought this may be the best way to get familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of each sphere before I tried my hand at deck building. After failing 2-3 times with mono Tactics, Lore, and Leadership decks, the Spirit deck is the one that helped me conquer this quest (on the first try).

Now on to some duel-sphere decks -- this is exciting! It feels like I've graduated to the next level....

I have struggled big time with the 1st scenario in Core Set using Lore and Tactics but beat it with both the Leadership and Spirit decks, the latter only just. I too only recently started and not sure if I am ready to try 2nd scenario yet. I also don't know whether to go mono sphere for this or build a deck from Core Set.

I have also downloaded the following, which were made to play Core Set with (found from boardgamegeek). Ninjadorg's LOTR: LCG scenarios

Congrats ^_^

Playing pure solo is a fun and unique perspective of this game. That's how I play too ^_^

Thanks Old Gadger -- those Ninjadorg quests look like a great way to squeeze some more fun out of the core set -- can't wait to try them !

I'm new at the game too. Played with my son (he's six but got the gist really easily - despite it having a 14+ rating). Being my first time too, we got smashed, mainly due to that devastating "discard all event cards" treachery card - ruined all our perfect plans.

My wife and I played the next night and we demolished the first scenario (she was leadership, I was spirit). My aim is to play each sphere solo and try to beat at least the first scenario that way - will have to beat it with each before I move on.

I too have issues messing with the decks, partly because a) I hate mixing them up even though you are supposed to and b) i would spend so much time second guessing what should be in there, I'd never actually play!

I love how much stuff there is for this game and hope I can convince my wife to play it more (she found it a little overwhelming!) but it sounds like it's a great solo experience anyway!
