Kind of Random... Do people keep track of who posted what?

By BlueMusketeer28, in X-Wing

I can't find the clip to post but this thread reminds me of the last episode of "The Thick of It" where Glenn insults/roasts all the people in the office while Phil eggs him on. "Do me - no, wait, do Emma next!"

It's odd to think of this as an actual community. I am very lucky to have a lot of gamers in my peer group readily available. It's easy to forget not everyone is so fortunate.

I'm not sure I follow your reasoning here. Do you actually believe that people who post here regularily do so because they don't have a gaming group? Because it's actually possible to have both.

I've been on this forum since I started playing X-Wing at the end of wave 1. First as a lurker, only reading a topic here and there, then, like you, I started posting some build and give my opinion on some topics. Wasn't long before I started to recognize some names, just like you will too if you stick around. There is members more vocal than others. It's only natural that you start to recognize members you tend to agree with, like I do with Vorpal and Bio, and those that you don't care about their opinion because they seems to only repeat the same thing over and over again, like other members that I won't name.

Recognizing posters actually save you a lot of time when there is a big thread about some news or anything. You can just read posts by members you care about their opinion and skip the others. So it leaves you with more time to actually go gaming with your friends.

Yes of course people start to figure out the kind of poster you are. Here are a few for example.

Joe Boss Red 7: talks like a child, posts stupid emojis, constantly reminds us that he plays the game his own way, reminds us that he has alot of ships. Brah, bruh, star brothers, glory, breakfast, second breakfast, mid afternoon breakfast. Good post, bad post, what's a like button?

ParaGoomba slayer: auto win this, auto win that, auto lose to that. Ace wing, turret wing, boost wing, joust wing. Dash is broken, aces are broken, turrets are broken, ps9+ is broken, boost is broken. Don't let take backs and make people mad so they make mistakes.

Ficklegreendice: turrets are lazy, turrets are broken. Ffg has poor game design. Turrets don't even care about maneuvers. Bombs are good. Green dice are bad.

Majorjuggler: math, math, math, mathy mathity math. Math wing, math wing 2.0, math wing 3.0, jousting values. Math wing is too powerful to release to the public. Ffg can't afford me. I may or may not have been contacted by ffg for design help. Let me give you a quick 8 hour recap of this tournament. The tournament scoring is bad and that's why I lose tournaments. Players abuse time and scoring that's why I lose tournaments.

Heychadwick: I use to do tournaments. Hey did you hear that I use to do tournaments. There's these things called tournaments, I use to do them. Some part of the x wing community is tournaments focused, I used to be because I used to do tournaments. Casual, fly casual, play missions, casually listen to my casual x wing podcast that focuses on casual x wing and not the tournaments I used to do. I used to do "good" at tournaments but now I just play casual.

Vanordm: rules as written. No that's your interpretation of the rules. This is how the rules are written. As you can clearly see how the rules are written. I don't believe that's how the rules are written. RAW>RAI. I'll roll the dice however I want.

That's just a few off the top of my head.

Has to be post of the year at this point, right???

The level of sarcasm and good-natured "poking the bear" is at a perfect level.

To be contrarian yet sincere: ID rage notwithstanding, this forum is remarkably and relatively free of the witless.

*Coughs obtrusively*

Much as I enjoy JBR7 this is all pretty much on point.

Man I'm surprised I haven't been mentioned in some way yet- how is Bojanglez missing a chance to prod with the prod?

Yeah we have it easy. Compared to warseer in its heyday or many many forums for popular online games.

As Red Ace perfectly said it, you come to know certain posters paterns. If you look at many of the people who were listed by Red Ace you will notice many of them have several thousands of posts. This will be my 399th which puts me at about 1 post every other day that I have followed the forums. Though I dont post often I spend about 1-2 hours a day (wow, no wonder my girlfriend is mad at me a lot) reading. I love all the ideas for lists and 'fixes' and campaigns. I love going to place where I know a few hundred other people are as excited to read about the newest releases as I am. It is a community.

Also as incredible as it sounds, I believe the underwhelming minority of players are on these forums. Only 2 of the 18 or so in my group are ever on here and it would not surprise me at all if that was a pretty acurate cross section of the XWing world.

Oh and just for fun I looked at Paul Heaver and he has 140 posts. I am embarrassed to know that I apparently have 3 times more to say about this game that the 3 time world champion.

Realktalk though, world champion or not, he's not exactly pleasant to talk to.

Keep track of who posts what? No.

Over time come to recognize certain user names, and occasionally pictures, and realize that you generally agree with much of what they say or otherwise appreciate their input? Certainly. The same could also be said about other posters who go the other way on things as well.

I'm guessing many of us could list a few forum members from memory and then remember a lot more with just some minor provocation.

Mu0n: vassal vassal vassal vassal vassal. Don't forget to update to the vassal vassal vassal module. Vassal vassal vassal module 3.784.96 millennium edition has all of the new wave 9 ships and tiny slivers of upgrades that you can use to try out before ya buy em even though you have no idea what they'll do.

*Slowly claps* Well done sir.

Click on the name above the avatar picture and you can track topics and posts made by that person.

I am dying from the hothie one. All of these are spot on, that one though, oh, it gave a good chuckle.

Too many people take the interwebs way too seriously.

I don't.

Stick around long enough and you'll see things... Strange things... Strange and wonderful things.

Great community to be part of whether this is your 4,089th post or your 4th. Some of us are characters, some caricatures, some just type characters instead. Most trolls move on despite how much they get fed, they don't like the taste of us it seems.

Whatever you choose, post away, have fun, and fly Empire. Scum, rebel or not, will not last... For the glory of the Empire!

I don't even keep track of my own posts much less anyone else.

But I guess I'm pretty random. I'm I'm almost impossible to anger on a forum. If something rubs me the wrong way I generally facepalm quietly to myself without responding.

I like a diverse forum and we have that for sure here.

Now and then I like to throw a stone in a calm pond to see what the ripples look like.

But keep track? Nah. Not overly invested in an "internet persona".

There can also some kind of emphasising process develop. A certain user or group of user is really persistent about a topic or theme, and is pushing it in a lot of threads, but still in a civilised and sometimes subtile manner. Others get slightly annoyed and start to counter, more and more. Thus they themselves can appear quite "single-themed" as well, albeit actually talking about other topics as well. While this is partly drowned in the argument flood.

Notice, I am now speaking of the moderate ones, not fanatics or stupid trolls. These tend to get ignored.

Huh. Nobody remembers me for the stupid things that come out of my digital mouth.

I recall them! But you're an aight dude. :P

Ooooh, ooooh.

Now I want to know how I can be caricatured.

Also, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Black Knight Leader. Or is it a case of not wanting to speak the devils name, lest he appear.

I know you post, but cant remember a discernable annoying pattern. =)

Unfortunately some regular posters don't have any patterns to there postings. If I think of anymore I'll be sure to post em.

Maybe there's no need to speak ill of someone, especially if they aren't involved in the conversation.

Awwww, shucks. Now your just sweet talking me. ;)

No, i totally dont watch who posts what. No idea who posts those good/bad posts at all for instance...
