I've only been here a few months, and I have noticed people making comments about how long particular users have all been around. Are people here keeping track of who's been posting what threads? I tend to just read the threads that are interesting and comment if I am interested. Should I be working on learning usernames? I'd hate to commit an Internet faux pas. ... Ha ha ha
Kind of Random... Do people keep track of who posted what?
"Keeping track" is a strong way to put it but over time you become familiar with the more prolific writing styles or themes and will know who is going to post a certain way or have an opinion on any given topic. Some signatures also help some people stand out.
Some folks are just so...unique?...that it makes it hard to not know the tone of their posts after a while. At a certain point, it becomes a caricature or shorthand for certain...umm...we'll be generous and call them ideas.
Edited by Futant420Ahh I see, so when say a certain BlueMusketeer shows up a few times asking for some T-65 love (a reasonable amount...) and posting long walls of text trying to be reasonable, it becomes readily apparent what a post from him will look lke.
yeah I have an excel spread sheet on every person on here that i update every 11.5 seconds. I then send it to Verizon who sends it to the NSA to help compile the no fly list!! ![]()
I post here more than I thought I would... I should get one of those profile pictures....
When you see lots of smilies.... you know it's JB

Now you're cooking with gas. But, it takes significantly more than a few times. We all have pet ideas and love certain ships. But to vomit up the same ideas over and over again is no fun for anyone

I don't keep track or anything, but once you've been here for a while, you notice some tendancies from certain posters.
When I read a post and I find him interesting and relevant, I tend to look at who's the poster is. After a couple more post, I will take the time to read what they post if I see their name.
Likewise, if I read a post and all I see is stupidity, arrogance or whinning, I'll look at the name. If they continue to repeat the same non-sense over and over and over again, I'll start to ignore that user, unless I want to have a good laugh at his new low.
It's just like when I was at school or now at work. You find affinities with some people, and can't smell others. It's only natural when you're part of a group.
Now I'm curious about the notations people are keeping next to my name...
likely something like... Who?!
I put the especially idiotic posters on ignore. Having to click "view it anyway" gives me time to brace myself for the barrage of stupid.
It's odd to think of this as an actual community. I am very lucky to have a lot of gamers in my peer group readily available. It's easy to forget not everyone is so fortunate.

Yes of course people start to figure out the kind of poster you are. Here are a few for example.
Joe Boss Red 7: talks like a child, posts stupid emojis, constantly reminds us that he plays the game his own way, reminds us that he has alot of ships. Brah, bruh, star brothers, glory, breakfast, second breakfast, mid afternoon breakfast. Good post, bad post, what's a like button?
ParaGoomba slayer: auto win this, auto win that, auto lose to that. Ace wing, turret wing, boost wing, joust wing. Dash is broken, aces are broken, turrets are broken, ps9+ is broken, boost is broken. Don't let take backs and make people mad so they make mistakes.
Ficklegreendice: turrets are lazy, turrets are broken. Ffg has poor game design. Turrets don't even care about maneuvers. Bombs are good. Green dice are bad.
Majorjuggler: math, math, math, mathy mathity math. Math wing, math wing 2.0, math wing 3.0, jousting values. Math wing is too powerful to release to the public. Ffg can't afford me. I may or may not have been contacted by ffg for design help. Let me give you a quick 8 hour recap of this tournament. The tournament scoring is bad and that's why I lose tournaments. Players abuse time and scoring that's why I lose tournaments.
Heychadwick: I use to do tournaments. Hey did you hear that I use to do tournaments. There's these things called tournaments, I use to do them. Some part of the x wing community is tournaments focused, I used to be because I used to do tournaments. Casual, fly casual, play missions, casually listen to my casual x wing podcast that focuses on casual x wing and not the tournaments I used to do. I used to do "good" at tournaments but now I just play casual.
Vanordm: rules as written. No that's your interpretation of the rules. This is how the rules are written. As you can clearly see how the rules are written. I don't believe that's how the rules are written. RAW>RAI. I'll roll the dice however I want.
That's just a few off the top of my head.
Unfortunately, I can only give you a single like, RedAce. Well done, sir.
There are a few posters who may or may not have been mentioned who are very good at getting on people's nerves, because all they do is complain, so your best bet is to ignore (literally, there's an ignore feature) them.
There are a few posters who manage to post with a level head every time, whom I respect, and am always glad to see one of them has "liked" one of my posts, because hopefully that means I'm doing something right.
Now I'm curious about the notations people are keeping next to my name...

Yep, never heard of you. Related to Wes, maybe?
To be contrarian yet sincere: ID rage notwithstanding, this forum is remarkably and relatively free of the witless.

After seeing RedAce post, I think it's best to fly under the radar! Looks like I'm doing that very already.
Excellent.

@LagJanson: I recognize your name as a regular, and you're not one of the people I roll my eyes at and scroll past. That's... worth something, right? ![]()
Since we are kind of talking with each other, i think its nice to know who we are talking to..
I got confused at first though on this forum cause everyone has the same avatar
on normal forums custom avatars help alot in getting to know who's who.
you might be confusing concepts there. Being part of a "forum community" doesn't necessarily have any correlation to your local gaming community. Serious question - is this the first forum you are a part of?It's odd to think of this as an actual community. I am very lucky to have a lot of gamers in my peer group readily available. It's easy to forget not everyone is so fortunate.
Unfortunately, yes. I have a Steam profile using the same name, but that's about it. I only came here because I wanted to see how some of my lists held up outside of my meta, ended up hanging around.

That totally reminds me of that tournament I went to and did good! Man, but I don't go to them anymore. Have you heard of Casual X-wing? I like Casual X-wing. It has missions.

Vorpal sword: Counter maths to MJ'S math. The sky isn't falling. I see you're math MJ but let me show you mine. Do you see this math here, how about this math. You can't math player skill. I also have a job using math. *insert general level headed well thought out post*
Cubanboy: Friday, friday, everyone's getting down on friday. Happy Friday. Tomorrow is Friday! Yesterday is friday! Today is Friday! Only 7 more days until Friday! I have a family. Be excellent.
Hobojesus: (quite possibly the best username) Casual! Casually casual. Fly casual. Don't be one of those guys just be casual. Fly whatever you want it's casual. Militant casual?!?! Casual. Best day of the week? Casual Friday.
Every single person who has a podcast: listen to our podcast. Hey you know what time it is? Podcast time. This week on our podcast we will be talking about x wing! Are you bored? Have nothing to do? Tired of thinking about x wing alone? Well sit down for 4 hours and let us tell you what we think about x wing! It'll be like having friends except we can't hear you or respond to you!
This is fun!
