The problem with Boostwing...

Ok, so with this new Wave it seems they're mitigating the 'wolf pack', but making PalpAces all the more prevalent.

I love this game. But I hate the power-creep of "need this higher PS" or "auto-include Boost" for post-maneuver advantages.

What if you could only Boost OR Barrel Roll? Would make some of the crazy maneuver-ers a little subdued.

OR, what if Large-ships could only Boost 1-forward, no banks? The 1-banks are just so much more movement than the 1-forward. It would make their boosting not nearly as effective, and thus, not a necessity for every ship.

Just thoughts on balancing. I know it doesn't fix or nerf PalpAces too much, but I find it annoying that half the lists out there center around post-dial maneuvering.

While I agree boosting with large ships should change (perhaps to use the epic template?) there's nothing stopping you from simply denying actions through bumping, or positioning yourself in higher tabs bands that are harder to boost/roll out of.

Also Vader the crew loves attacking anything that forgot it's daily dose of shields. If Arcdodgers bother you so much, fly turrets. Or ram them. Oicunn loves damning the torpedoes. (There's a joke in there about the new ship that has torpedoes and likes to charge straight ahead)

Yes, ficklegreendice! I feel like you're my spirit animal. My go-to list involves Emon Azzameen and either Bomb-Brobot or Ys. I cant make an attack or evade-roll to save my life (literally), so I bring as many proton bombs and conner nets as possible.

I just hate seeing tournaments swarming with space-cows toting Popes and aces. Im hoping those Slicers will do something nasty to them...

yeah, palp aces are annoying with U-boats adding some variety to the top lists and making hard-counters less playable.

Back during SC season, we had 3 consecutive palp ace victories until I decided to hard tech against it with Deathrain conners (and VI vader and juke relay Omega L)

actually arrived late (stupid public transit) and automatically lost the first match with 0 mov because of that...still took first :P

even after full-health Omega L took an unmodified (re: his ability) HLC brobot shot in the last match, which ended up killing him because you can't do the whole crit --> hit thing <_<

of all the thus far spoiled cards, only the debris cloud really seems to adversely affect jumpies

even then, the caster's gonna have a hell of a time getting close enough to dump that thing without getting shredded by torps. It'd have to start running from the get go

People are saying the Protectorate will do it, but Im notq seeing it so far. Mostly due to someone (I forget who) that went on record stating this next wave will have a hard counter to them.

Ideally, I'd love to see Deadeye become unique. Boom! Problem solved! Haha

Yeah true enough, Alex Davey did say there'd be something in the Nova Squadron podcast. Thus far I haven't seen anything but I suspect this will come with more previews.

it'd fix an annoying meta match-up skew for sure, but it wouldn't be long until people discover that Zuckuss actually slots in very nicely in place of one of the scouts (V.I, dengar, title)

he's a lot less mobile/durable, but he's a PS 9 railgun with a decidedly clutch t-beam attached (Seriously, you might fire it once per game, at range 3, but it will win you the game ). Only problem is you can't use the amazing zuckuss crew on the leftover torpscout and then enable it with manaroo :(

It's what happens when folks can't think about more than one thing at a time. Unimaginative people can only see one way to skin a cat, when in fact, there is more than one way. But, it's more fun to say something is poorly designed or overpowered than it is to say that "I can't get my mind around these mechanics, so I'll demean anyone that uses them, the designers that made them, and the game that I espouse to enjoy playing" - wing.

I think the guys over at FFG ought to release a game with just a T-65, so these jokers can just fly in straight lines, not have any ships to compare it to (so the t-65 isn't OP or in need of fixing) and do not have to feel inferior to folks that like to fly creatively.

If the rules of a game are not to your liking, maybe you would enjoy a different game more.

Obviously we all love the game. But the last thing I like seeing is a tournament filled with a majority of one-list. I dont have the exact number, but how many tournamemts are filled with PalpAces.

I played 40k for ten years before quitting because it got so biased. Thank god Xwing isnt the same as that.

And Im not saying "NO ARCDODGING I DONT WANNA", because its a full t1hird of the game. I just wanted to discuss how to mitigate and make it so we're not having Imperial victories everywhere filled with Palpmobile and two Aces. I want more viable options for large shops that arent "make sure you have Engine Upgrade". This isnt a whine-thread, but one for discussing issues and possible fixes.

Or if you just want to ridicule me and say I shouldnt even be playing the game, you could do that too.

My take:

1. Palp: honestly I think it is stupid that he is in the game outside of some special scenario anyway. Aces should be strong in a SW game. Give more hard counters than just Boba crew.

2. Dead-eye: not sure about that one.

The game just needs handicapping to balance the points value between Turrets, Aces, Generics and Special Ordnances.

Drop the price a little on Generics and Aces will be outdone in the early game by players who understand coverage.

Seasonal handicapping is the answer, knock the top stuff down a peg and make the dead bottom stuff have a chance to live.
