Small kit tournament, Scum Bossk + mini swarm

By AEIllingworth, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Howdy!

I've got a small three round coming up, and I thought I'd try something off the wall. I want to try massed Dead Man's Switches.

Binayre Pirate x4

Dead Man's Switch. 14x4= 56

Bossk

Veteran's Instinct

Dengar

4-LOM

Zuckuss. 41

This puts me at 97 total points, and I'm not sure what to do with the last three. A bid is okay, but I'm pretty sure there is something useful I can put in. Tractor beam on Bossk is weirdly tempting, as is inertial dampeners.

I figure this will be terrible for MoV, but it should be fun. I have tried Feedback Array swarms before, but the ion token is brutal and they get at best one damage off anyway. My one attempt at flying bombs showed me that it has a nice effect of no one ever getting the range 1 bonus dice when shooting at a Z, up to the point of ignoring them if they are too close.

I'd definitely try tractor beam on Bossk, save the other two points for initiative against other 9's. 90%of the time the tractor is a waste on a 3atk ship, but if it lets you push a TIE into range 1 of a low health Z they're going to think long and hard about shooting the little guy :)

Feedback Array on Bossk.

You don't have enough points for EU to make that PS9 count and deal with the blindspot issue. FA covers it with a middle-finger to Aces.

While at it, I'd drop VI for Wired (again, EU isn't there, so...). Party Bus loves it to death.

Wired is tempting, but because Bossk is the Ace Hunter, I think Dengar will give enough re rolls. The extra 2 pilot skill gives me the chance to kill omega leader, Carnor, and the inquisitor before they can fire.

My big hope for the list is the possible SLAM illicit coming in Heroes of the resistance. I hope it fits with the points.

Thread necromancy!

I had the tournament last night, and ended 2-1. The first match was a guy still in the early stages of learning, so I didn't learn much. The next two were a bit more instructive. I probably should have lost the second, but his four dice ghost shots just could not kill the z-95s, and I had three left at the end.

The last game taught me that a YV-666 does not last long. One agility is rough against munitions. I think that is the weak point, the YV crumples to concentrated fire. I either need to find a way to bolster its defense, or swap it out with something that can tank a while so the Zs get shots. Tel Trevura comes to mind.

I don't think I'd give up just yet. Your Binayre's should have been able to block and deny actions so that ordnance couldn't be launched. I might try it again with that in mind.

That mostly works, but even primaries chew through Bossk pretty quickly when nothing else is "worth" shooting, or could hurt you if you shoot it. I really like the dead man swarm, but Bossk isn't the right pairing I think. Tel would live longer and I could use R5-P8. Or I could add another Z and a g-1a or something. Or I could just go all out and have 7 Zs.

Thanks for the report. I have been tinkering with the YV builds for a few months and can't find a squad I like. The YV builds I prefer are a little more Alpha (bruh).
