I laughed a bit too loud at that and my boss came over to investigate. You hit some good hallmarks of internet arguing there, bravo. First you try and belittle me by mentioning my piddly post count then you establish kid dominance. I basically have no recourse now. Assuming I followed you around (A quick glance at my last posts tends to suggest otherwise but where do facts fit in?) it'd primarily be because the drama that you embroil yourself in but there's enough of that around I don't really need to pick and choose. I poke, you react.

Hey guys, let's all knock it off with the personal attacks. We want to keep this forum healthy and full of discussion. There's no place for name-calling and putting others down. We can disagree and be nice about it.

Its typical though that some established players (high post count, in general, not naming any particular ones yet.) have a tendency to start name/ noob calling the moment they don't like where a conversation is going... A bit sad

In any case, the reason I'm so against this forum fighting is because that's actually what drove me away from X-Wing for four waves. I was new to the world of forums and had been spoiled by the pleasant people discussing X-Wing before it was released. Then some dude came along when the game was released and started making personal attacks at me. I hadn't ever experienced such vitriol before and the only way I could deal with it was to shut it out by not visiting the X-Wing forums and locking away my ships. (Luckily, I didn't sell them.) Feelings that get hurt online can have actual consequences for people in real life. I'm not saying we need to hold hands in a field of rainbows and flowers, but I am saying we can discuss our opinions without personal attacks. We can focus on the arguments and not on the arguers. I just don't want anyone else to hav to go through what I did, but the problem is a lot of people don't consider how hurtful their language can be. They just spout whatever comes to mind, safe behind the anonymity of their screen name. They don't stop to consider how the message might sound to others. We would all benefit from thinking a little before posting, especially when the topic is one we're passionate about.

Talking about how people are tired of gunboat posts is very different from racism and bigotry. But you go for whatever helps you sleep at night.

Why is an anti-gunboat thread any less valid than a pro gunboat thread. I was indifferent until the costant spamming of the **** thing, and the childish attitude of people not getting what they want.

The point is that these forums need moderators. You can say pretty much anything on here and you won't even get a slapped wrist. I would actually sleep better at night if I knew that when I awoke I wouldn't be bombarded by inappropriate content in my X-Wing forum. When bigotry is thinly veiled as nerd rage, is it still bigotry? If I call you an idiot for playing PWTs because only babies fly PWTs have I just insulted you or have I just insulted you?

People can feel anyway they like about the gunboat, or the ARC, or PWTs. If they wish to be taken seriously in the arena of grown up conversation then they had better formulate their opinions carefully and intelligently. However, I suspect this was never a thread for well written and concise arguments, but rather just some steam venting from some folks for whom the gunboat confirmed joke became un-funny. For the record, there is nothing wrong with that. I was willing to be indifferent to the whole thing too, but then everyone had to start losing their heads and people who I thought were better than that suddenly turned into anti-gunboat werewolves... all the while demanding their own large base ship that is virtually identical! I'm still not sure if this is some kind of reverse gunboat psychology or not though.

Now... none of this answers the burning question though. What qualifies a ship for X-Wing fame? Does anyone actually know? My bet is that if you do know the magic formulae for divining the worthiness of X ship over Y ship and how to decide which gets released and which doesn't; you must work for FFG. And if you do work for FFG... moderate your **** forums!
