Gunboat nevermore

By ozmodon, in X-Wing

If I never see a Gunboat on the table, it will be to soon. From what I have seen, this nonsense of a Gunboat is nothing more than a poorly conceived attempt to see if a few can sway the game designers. The reason for my belief is this... Totally random questions are being inserted with Gunboat bs... Someone asks about Auto-Thrusters and in no time at all there appears a comment.... Well if we had a Gunboat... Really.. I get it if someone has a passion for something, but keep it in its thread. A lot of newer players have legitimate questions and don't need to be confused with something that is totally off topic... You know like a Gunboat.

Gunboat is like Breakfast: a doom that awaits every thread, a spectre of derailment and boredom.

HOW DARE YOU!

:o

I mean when you are poo pooing the official products which are THE BEST STAR WARS MODELS AND GAMES ON EARTH... and why: because you want some old ship that is not even in the recognized official cannon... dat is just to much.

I agree! No poo-pooing on the cool new ships. After all, the TIE defender was a way cooler ship in that old flight simulator game, and we got that awesome thing way back in wave IV! And the upgrade for that ship is coming...eventually. But it's coming!

But for me, it's sad to look at my vast collection of imperial ships, and see round cockpit + solar panels for days. If I'm not mistaken, the only ships in the Imperial fleet that don't start with "TIE" are large ships. Didn't the empire ever do anything different design wise? You bet they did -- the Lambda-class shuttle's little brother and multipurpose starfighter, the XG-1 Star Wing. Can't I get some variety in my Imperial fleet?

(As an aside, at least we're getting some color into the fleet with red TIE interceptors and defenders, blue TIE fighters, etc., but if it bothered me that much I could paint them. Still hoping for something a little different in shape/design).

EDIT: And you wouldn't know it form my post count, but I've been on these forums since before the game came out -- I've seen all the topics come and go, and come again.

I think people seem to forget is that the Imperials are a government that wants ease on construction, interchangeable parts and standardisation across their Navy. The cockpit design of the TIE series is like that because it's easy to make and has become the cockpit of all TIE ships. Now I have taken this way nerdier than I intended but if you dont want your Imperial ships to look the same fly Scum or Rebels. Look at any Army around the world, all their stuff looks the same, is painted the same and doesnt work as intended the same. I think the Imperial Navy fits the niche that any OCD kid would love.

I am not a vet of the game or the forum, but I am tired of the Gunboat talk. Petition your local member of Parliament or something, but please tone done the talk of the Gunboat. I have said it elsewhere. Wave 9 has included ships from the pre movies, something they said they would never do. Most likely the Gunboat is a long way off if at all.

I'm not a gunboat cultist. I just have fond memories of both flying and shooting down those beautiful ships in the X-wing series of video games. And now I want it in this game so badly!!!!

...oh, does that make me a cultist? So be it then ^_^

Nah but marching around at an official FFG X-WING Event with these on...

Yavin_zpseaikszuo.jpg

YAH CULTIST!

...and you look snarky and pushy in front of the people who actually work on the game for the rest of us to enjoy.

Not Cool... and security will be keeping an eye on you both until they figure out that you are just harmless nerds living in your own special little world.

Nice.

Chill out, just a bit of fun at a toy games comp.

Seems to me like Joe Boss Red Seven is becoming more and more toxic with his posts recently. So I'm just going to block his posts from now one.

Sound advice to anyone on either side of this debate to be honest - if you're not interested in a particular topic or poster's contributions, just ignore it. Simple as that.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got seven games of X-Wing to play today! :)

Rambling.

Thanks for publicising our cause.

The Gunboat ever being in this game is a notion that died with the old EU. Disney can throw out enough ships per year to keep FFG in business forever without having to dip into old videogames from the 90s.

I have to admit though, I find the enthusiasm for the Gunboat pretty charming given that it was mostly designed to look interesting while keeping a really restrictive polygon count down in a game for MS-DOS.

X-Wing and TIE Fighter ruled.

I dunno - I always got the impression that it was designed at 4.30 on a friday afternoon by a graphic artist bored of TIE fighters and a 5pm deadline

Funny that you say that when the Z-95, TIE/FO, TIE/SF, TIE Punisher, U-Wing, E-Wing, and so many others are much clearer representants of that.

Oh you just opened a can of worms.

You are a veteran now... so are you tired of seeing the **** gunboat stats and home brewed cards popping up in long postings in several topics?

I am.

I have been here for longer than many regular posters and I AM SICK OF GB Talk too. So now with Wave 9 done they will keep being pushy cultist for another year... that is some stupid stuff right there.

Go buy the ugly little lambda wannabe at one of many alternate outlets and print the dam cards you keep showing people (whether they want to see them or not)... DONE!

So the self appointed forum police considers that some fans aren't anymore welcome to express their wishes to see one of their favorite ships marketed, in the forums of the company that markets these miniatures?

Have these fans broken any forum rules? Name-called anyone? Bullied anyone?

Are you really complaining that now and then some Star Wars fans are posting pictures of their favorite ships in other threads other than the ghetto thread you seem to restrict them to?

Seriously, the person that spams this forum most with his large, repetitive, and condescending "Good post/Bad post" pictures is complaining about this?

I am not trying to be mean but this has gone to far and even Happy Teddy Bear Joe is getting aggravated by it all.

I mean when you are poo pooing the official products which are THE BEST STAR WARS MODELS AND GAMES ON EARTH... and why: because you want some old ship that is not even in the recognized official cannon... dat is just to much.

DAMS...

I just want the Gunboat because it looks cool...

That is totally fine but some of the guys are starting to let it effect the whole forum, that is when a few of us veterans need to chill it down some.

;)

Look, Joe, I'm sad it has to be me to tell you this but you are not special . You aren't a better fan than any other, even if you think so.

You seem to always want to divide the community between the good veterans and the bad millenials , belittling others for whatever crosses your mind at the moment, inflicting their threads with your "bad post" seals disapproval like if you were the judge of X-Wing fandom that you aren't.

Stop believing yourself better than the rest, stop trying to push them away when you don't like what others say (as long as they are civil and polite), and stop caring about policing the forum with your "Veteran" badge and your "Bad post" revolver.

And above everything else, stop bullying others for not being good enough, or veteran enough in your eyes.

You know, people that love those videogames that are the ancestors of this very game has probably done so since longer than this game even existed, since before the prequels were an idea in Lucas' head, and definitely, since before Disney decided to jettison part of the EU.

Why do you think your join date or post count here gives your authority to dismiss a person as "not a true veteran fan"? Most people in that thread have been fans of Star Wars X-Wing, and of Star Wars spaceships in general, since before a good part of the whiners here were even born.

Yes, it was another X-Wing game.

One more veteran than this one.

You are taking this way more seriously than I am. 90% of my GOOD - BAD post are jokes and done to be fun and funny. The only little issue I have at all in this topic is that the starwing cult is starting to actually clutter the entire forum with their demands for a ship that only they care about.

Just because I know what I am talking about that does not mean that I am trying to slam it down on anyone who is a good regular member of this community. I do not reply to drive by shooters anymore either. Most of the guys know that I am all about loving STAR WARS and trying to bring in the FUN; and the cool, very well too.

:D

You have to admit, the 'good post', 'bad post' posts are rather spammy.

Inb4lock/gunboat announcement

Funny that you say that when the Z-95, TIE/FO, TIE/SF, TIE Punisher, U-Wing, E-Wing, and so many others are much clearer representants of that.

Saving the U-Wing which we don't really know anything about, (but looks very reminiscent of a Konesayr design with bolted on Incom / Subpro components), the difference is that those ships all actually make sense as part of a progression of incremental design improvements.

The gunboat makes less sense - it's completely out of step with Imperial design ethos, and either came from nowhere and went nowhere or was a state of the art military vessel based on a scaled down version of a ship designed for carrying passengers and cargo.

I appreciate that in a universe inhabited by space wizards with laser swords, elite warriors who can't shoot, and lethal teddy bears, making sense isn't really that great a requirement - but it does provide a context under which the fervent evangelism of the gunboat fans isn't going to be shared, and might even be treated rather dismissively.

I want T-16s, T-47s, and Cloud Cars before Gunboats -- finish out the OT canon!

Tbh the very large amount of (largely positive and friendly) Gunboat noise is probably more likely to get a Gunboat than to prevent a Gunboat.

If you're anti XG-1 then the best way to hamper the gunboatery is to say absolutely nothing whatsoever.

honestly don't care one way or another (very meh on the aesthetic of the ship, though I have a small bit of nostalgia piloting one via joystick as I sucked too much for the...less stable imperial ships)

ito game design, though, I'm not sure how they'd distinguish it from the poor punisher. Dang thing's overpriced as hell, but it's filling the same role

It's fill the Y-wing role for imperials, specifically the BTL-4 upgrade. The Imperials don't need another high PS Mary Sue-craft that so frequently comes with eyeball designs. We need a cheap, cheerful PS3/4 generic (Y-wings too for that matter).

posting in a gunboat thread

g2.jpg

Actually, after browsing several topics, I am getting the impression that it's not gunboat fans that are the loud ones, it's all the people that think the gunboat fans are funny. They make posts here and there to make fun of our crusade, but you can never tell the true gunboat fans. The joke has grown too big, and I think that's the point of the original post. I agree, it needs to tone down, and it will. Once the novelty of Wave IX starts to wane, and the speculation threads fade to the background again, gunboat comments will probably head back to their own thread (we need to make it to 300 posts, after all).

Besides, by that time TIE defenders are going to be tearing up the the tables, and nobody will have time to worry about gunboats!

I think I fall into the category of posting about Gunboats lately because I think it's funny. I don't even fly Imperials usually! But I admit that I thought the Gunboat was a given after wave IV's TIE Defender. I'm really surprised it hasn't happened yet and I'm betting it's still on its way. Has been ove the top lately? Maybe a little, but it hasn't reached the doggedness of the anti-turrets yet.

I mean when you are poo pooing the official products which are THE BEST STAR WARS MODELS AND GAMES ON EARTH... and why: because you want some old ship that is not even in the recognized official cannon... dat is just to much.

But the Empire is not a factory. They're still paying othe companies to design and produce ships. According to the old lore, even X-wings were comissioned by the Empire for Incom to develop. Right now we have an overwhelming amount of Sienar Fleet Systems craft and I agree that we need some Cygnus Spaceworks representation.

honestly don't care one way or another (very meh on the aesthetic of the ship, though I have a small bit of nostalgia piloting one via joystick as I sucked too much for the...less stable imperial ships)

I think there are lots of ways to distinguish it from other ships, and you can probably find lots of ideas in the Gunboat threads. But as a quick example, you could give it a 2-dice attack with a 0-cost title that makes it assign an ion token whenever it deals damage. Now it has a greater damage potential but less chance to hit than Ion Cannons. Plus, it isn't getting a second attack like BTL-A4s and TIE/x7s.

And I thought it was only me ... I mean, I have been here since before the beginning (75 years old), and I wouldn't mind seeing the Gunboat in due course, but the vociferousness of some is stunning ...

I think the best approach us veterans can take is to set up a GoFundMe account, so all of those 'enthusiasts' can donate their hard earned moolah, and pay FFG to build the thing. :P :D

The enthusiasts get their gunboat, us veterans get piece and quiet on the forums, and FFG makes more moolah, thus allowing them to continue to produce the best Star Wars minis ever.

Win-Win-Win-Win

Nah you've got a point.

I dont really play imperials but seeing as the gunboat has been one of the most requested ships since way back I think it would only be fair if FFG would just release a statment confirming if it will ever be made.

I want T-16s, T-47s, and Cloud Cars before Gunboats -- finish out the OT canon!

Not gonna happen. . .all of these are airspeeders and the pilot will quickly die in the vacuum of space.

As for the Gunboat, I suspect if it ever does get released, the mantra will simply change to "the Gunboat needs a fix!"

Hey, if suited pilots can handle this in TIE fighters, they'd be fine with those ships. Getting those ships into space and providing a reason for it is another matter though.

Pfft nah, the TIE defender was the Mary Sue. The gunboat is the grimy, overworked POS craft that got things done.
