Wave IX - Everything is Awesome

By ObiWonka, in X-Wing

So much Shadowcaster hate. It might have an aesthetic many will have a hard time getting behind but free automatic tractor beam tokens that don't take away your primary shot!!!

MY FAVORITE STAR TREK SHIP IS NOW IN MY FAVORITE STAR WARS GAME AND I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER ABOUT IT!

(For real. Not sarcastic. I heart the Defiant, but do _not_ want to play Attack Wing)

It really is the best non Klingon ship in all of Star Trek, the shadowcaster is pretty dang close to it though. It is a good paint job away from a distance mistake and a talented modder away from mirror image.

Worth noting that Old Teacher (not Master, you can see the base token bottom left)...

I'm not 100% convinced it is 'Teacher' either - looks to be a letter short - but too pixelated on zoom to be sure...?

IIRC they had that ship out on preview at UKGE and it was definitely Teacher. I didn't get any photos though.

19 points for the PS 1 Fang is a price point I'll be quite happy with, as you'll be able to fit five in a list with the title. Seems like a pretty good deal. :) I'm just hoping it's not 20 points...

I'd say PS1 Fang is probably well overcosted at 19. I mean, it's not like Alpha Squads get used... well, at all... at 18 points apiece, and the Fang loses Evade for TL which is probably a negative, in exchange for an extra hull and the option of an admittedly very solid title that takes them up to 20.

A 5-TIE swarm of them might be worthwhile but I somehow doubt it.

This just seems like another ship where the generics get ignored and the uniques are the only ones that see use.

Which doesn't remotely bother me because Fenn Rau is gonna be amazing.

So....the Shadowcaster with Rear Gunner and title.....firing with mobile arc in the rear at R 1-2....it means they are -1 to Agility and then if you hit, you get to Tractor Beam them, and give them another -1 for other ships. Not bad at all....

Will Tail Gunner work with the Mobile Firing Arc at all?

Auxiliary arc isn't necessarily the same thing as a mobile firing arc.

We have no earthly way of knowing.

True.....might not work depending on new rules. If it does, though, it would be nice...

Bet they leave it till last as well.

I would assume the condition owuld continue until the first or second FAQ after release, personally.

I actually don't think it needs an FAQ. Nowhere is the Ghost's "special arc" referred to as an "auxiliary arc," and I doubt the Shadowcaster's "mobile arc" will ever be referred to as an "auxiliary arc." Although we tend to conflate them, the wording makes a very clear distinction between the different types of rear-facing arcs. Now if tail gunner merely said "rear facing arc" rather than "rear facing auxiliary arc" I think it would work with those two, but rules as written it looks like it will not.

Then again, I could be completely wrong and they FAQ it to work.

I would assume that you're correct - the wording seems clear to me.

But a: I'm often proven wrong by FAQs which go the opposite way to what I'd expect, and b: either way, the question will be frequent, so it ought to be answered even if it's just to confirm the consensus viewpoint. FAQs aren't just for altering how things are read, they can also be for... you know... answering frequent questions people have.
