The Millenium Falcon and the Mobile Firing Arc
gonna want to play with it first before I start singing praises
but it literally cannot be worse than the design behind PWTs
here's to hoping we get an eventual errata to all pwts, given that the mobile firing arc is really just a clip-on token that could go on any ship's base with an "aux arc" (need the lines that define the arc; not filled in)
Edited by ficklegreendiceThey would have to be much cheaper than they are now, particularly the lower PS ones. Also forcing them to action to swivel is crippling.
Edited by PanzehI doubt that we'll see the Mobile Firing Arc applied retroactively to all other PWTs. Not only would it require new ship tokens for large turret ships like the YTs, Decimator and Jumpmaster, but you'd also need to come up with a new, smaller token to stick on the K-Wing.
They may someday decide to do a rules change to the way PWTs work, or to retire the existing ships and come out with new versions that use the Mobile Arc mechanic, but I doubt either of these things will happen.
You would have to drop the points significantly and rebuild most of the pilot abilities.
And really it's just not the same. A ship with two high-speed turrets facing each way is going to have a genuinely 360 coverage. A ship with a clunky turret on top that is controlled from a little panel in the flight seat isn't.

I agree, it should never come without a point reduction. I'm not really asking for anything, just think it would have been cool to have this mechanic from the very beginning (easy to say in hindsight).
I will begin by saying that the Millenium Falcon is my favorite ship in the movies. A fairly unsurprising statement, if not for the fact that it could also be my LEAST favorite ship in the game.
I just hate the PWT mechanic as IMO it empties the game from a bit of tactical play (just imagine a game between two YT-1300 just throwing dice at each other). The new mobile arc mechanic is so much better, it could singlehandedly turn the MF from the most boring ship to play to the most fun! Now, I know time machines don't exist so I'm not really asking FFG for it, but oh the dreams...
I guess I just wanted to share my feelings about what could have been, and give kudos to FFG for introducing this amazing mechanic into the game
.
P.S. English is not my first language, so sorry about any grammar mistakes I might have made.

it can
a BOOSTING ptw
aw sheeiii~
nah, it'll just bump the arcdodge and ps-race even further.
I do like those pointing out that ye olds pwt would need rebalancing
I'd welcome the hell out of that, especially considering the considerably poor design of the pwt ships themselves ito internal balancing outside of just the horrendously lazy pwt mechanic
poor ORS
(and non-dash yt-2400s to a lesser extent)
If the Lambda shuttle is not getting an Aux firing arc, then the Falcon is not getting a mobile arc.
The Falcon has 2 turrets you know, yet it only attacks 1 target. PWTs are fine.
Edited by MarinealverWe run a Special card on our Decimator and Falcon for some casual games.
Twin Turret Primary Cannons
Special - (0 pts)
VT-49 Decimator, YT-1300, YT-2400, only
Your Primary attacks are -1
Once per turn, after you make an attack, you may make a primary weapon attack against a different target or if the Target is in your forward arc the same target.
It makes the falcon, and decimator feel like they should and doesn't have that indomitable Strength 3 attack out of arc. Sadly it doesn't really fix Outrider.
We have some ideas for Lambda Ass Gun and fixing turrets on some other ships too but they aren't developed completely. Instead of mobile arcs and such we have limited firing windows because all of those ships with Turrets have areas they can't shoot. The Jumpmaster for example can't shoot across its own body, so the area to the right of the base and behind the front line of the base is considered an un-targetable black spot. It doesn't require anything written on the base of the ship and doesn't kill the ship utterly it just takes away the inability to ever dodge it and forces the turret ship player to actually fly rather than run.
Personally, not a fan of the idea. Feels like a gimmick. These aren't WW2 tanks here, they're spaceships capable of, you know... space flight. I'm pretty sure PWTs are well past the point of people needing to complain endlessly about them. Turrets have been a part of the game since before 90% of everyone here even started playing so... Kinda tired of the steady hum of the whine-turbines around here.
I got something to say to the constant PWT complainers. Grow up. Are PWTs really pissing you off that bad? Then go play something else. Seriously. You want to ***** about your opponent being 'auto-win' because they brought X unit, Warmachine would love you to come and play! Try on 40k for size, it sounds like it fits. Or maybe MTG is more your style?
Honestly, if you can't write and fly a list to beat PWTs then you really are a total noob. L2P noobs.
Alternate firing arcs on Ray and Dengar have the potential to be terrifying. And awesome.

I really think you're missing the point. It is not that PWT are autowin or anything. In fact, I believe the Falcon needs a fix, as it is difficult to remember the last time it placed high in a tournament. The problem is how boring it is (for some of us) to have two PWT ships fighting each other without really having to put any thought into their maneuvers. This is a matter of taste, so I don't expect anyone to agree if they feel otherwise.

You sound like a **** unable to understand that the point has nothing to do with beatable or unbeatable turrets but that turrets are boring without limitations.
Take 2 duelling Jumpmasters as an example. There is no point to flying anymore, no matter where each of us flies or moves, the ships are the same distance apart and the game just becomes a roll off, whoever gets the luckier dice wins. If you think that's fun, why are you here and not playing a game like Snakes and Ladders?
The mobile/variable arc mechanic could have worked quite well for PWTs if: 1, you select the new primary arc after movement (no action to shift); 2, may still fire at targets out of arc for -1 attack die; and 3, jettison the Autothrusters card. If there was still skill in aiming the turret, I would have enjoyed the challenge of them. As it is, meh.
Autothrusters doesn't work against the Mobile Arc as it is "in Arc"

and soon this will be the reason there will be more hate for mobile arcs over turrets

Actually I see the point entirely. This is just more turbine squeal. Why am I not playing Snakes and Ladders? Because, friend, I grew up a long time ago and now it takes something a bit more involved than that to keep me occupied. If you think "duelling jumpmasters" are always going to be the same distance apart and that X-Wing devolves into a dice-fest whenever PWTs hit the table then you, sir, are the problem.
But then again I look at your huge post count and am awed by your firm grasp of the game, spelling ability, and obvious veteran status. Nameless dude whose identity I can't even be bother to scroll up one click to ascertain has said it best! He doth decree! Maybe it's a she, who cares?
PWT hate is JUVENILE. Over exuberant obsession with anything having to do with TOYS is by definition juvenile. Go cry to your mommy, noob.
Not really. Autothrusters are meant to counter undodgeable arcs. Mobile arcs are totally arc dodgeable.and soon this will be the reason there will be more hate for mobile arcs over turrets
True but if there is a way to turn move the arc at the start of combat......
I look forward to the please nerf threads

hope there is, because otherwise top-ps+vi would become a must, and PS race is bad
And now I just hope that FFG releases an upgrade that gives a discount on turret ships to turn it into mobile arcs instead.

Yay! - Mobile Arc for YT-1300 -2pts - then I can have 4 ORS on the table with 4 space cows (none of these piddly small base dodgers
)

I wasn't going to get involved, but Darkcloak, you are out of line. Calling someone a noob and discussing their post count? What the hell is that about? Someone isn't a Veteran or a noob based on thread post count! That is an absolutely ridiculous thing to even bring up. And even if it was true, who cares? Does your opinion count more because you are a "Veteran"? Of course not! He's entitled to his opinion, and you're entitled to yours, but neither one of you are " right" or "wrong". Just to say, "I disagree, and your opinion is stupid and whining" is not helpful to the discussion and rude. Grow up! And I don't mean age. Being rude to a noob is a great way to chase new players away and ruin the community. And to be honest, Darkcloak, the evidence is against your opinion. One of the developers recently stated that he wished PWTs had been differently handled and now we get a new mobile arc mechanic. It seems to me FFG is not in love with PWT anymore.
