Imperial veterans....remember that one rumor about a veterans exp. That never happened?

By Velvetelvis, in X-Wing

Yea...this kind of stuff makes me appreciate how games workshop does things, put it up for pre order out of nowhere when its ready and then release it the following weekend. With X Wing they reveal stuff way way too far ahead of time IMO, after several months of waiting it becomes easy to get distracted with other stuff.

I do plan on getting two SF Ties but thats pretty far off, I don't see much point in even pre ordering them until august at the earliest.

Understand that FFG sends out sales sheets to retailers for pre-orders. I mean, we found out about Imperial Veterans because of a retailer getting information before they put the article up. FFG is smart to use pre-orders in this way for their products, in order to get a better idea of demand before sending it off to the printers. We will always know about product ahead of time.

im still expecting imp vets either this weekend or next week.

*waits for hopes to be shattered by a sledgehammer of despair*

Either way, Gunboat fans are screwed.

presses

I LIKE THIS!

Either way, Gunboat fans are screwed.

Good.

The day FFG unveil the beautiful, deadly Gunboat, I will laugh long and hard. And immediately pre-order four of them.

She is such a thing of beauty. Hmmmmmmm...........

Yeah but....gunboats were a super obscure and theoretical possibility. Like....nobody REALLY is that interested in them. It's more like a forum inside joke we play.

Yeah, tell that to the T-shirts at Yavin.

Yeah, tell that to the T-shirts at Yavin.

As mentioned elsewhere, I sincerely hope they introduce the model to a) make people happy and b) expand the game with any and all great models but stating that a few of the most hardcore fans wearing t-shirts discounts the gunboat as being "super obscure" is great anecdotal evidence and little else.

If they did introduce it, my favorite aspect would be showing that FFG really do listen. I loved TIE fighter but don't believe the Gunboat is a well known or widely loved ship, so it's inclusion would show they give a toss what the player-base wants, even if it's a small subset of the player-base.

WELL US Nationals is in exactly two weeks. If I were a gaming company, and there was a massive event like that coming up, I would probably release the box at the event.

But what do I know....

With the massive discounts the US online retailers dish out, it is doable to purchase stuff and have it shipped to Europe for the same cost. Releasing in one area sooner than elsewhere can have massive repercussions for the other distributors which in turn will lead to a drop in support and sales.

You have to think across borders, hard as it may be.

I've been in it since 2004, but this is the first time I've actually preordered and had to pay the credit card off before receiving product. That's not to say I preordered right away, I did so at the start of May. That and it's a rhyming day, hip hip hip horray!

Mr. Gorbachev.... tear down this wall

If you think about it, the Tie punisher, Tie Phantom, HWK and TIE Defender were way more obscure and less demanded than the Gunboat. I speculate that there is only one reason the TIEs made the cut and the gunboat hasn't. Someone at Lucasfilm/Disney clearly doesn't consider the fans intelligent enough to associate a non-eyeball starfighter as being an imperial design.

I worried when Vets disappeared from Amazon.

I need two Gunboats to escort my Raider.

I don't disagree as I had heard of some of those ships (via video games, like the Gunboat) but certainly not all. However, I'm not sure I'm qualified to judge the "Relative Obscurity Scale" of each ship but to your point, them wanting to find alternative TIE designs that kept the same aesthetic is in no way indicative that they might just be looking for other obscure ships to bring to life.

Again, I personally won't complain about any ship that's brought out as each brings new play possibilities but am also aware that there is a good chance the Gunboat will never see the light of day in XWM.

is there anything left unspoiled from it still?

My utter glee in fielding three Delta/Ds?

At the rate FFG is moving we'll be lucky if Vets comes out Q4 2016, and Wave 9 and HotR Q4 2018.

To be honest, my enthusiasm for the game is really starting to wane. FFG has only made one release date for X Wing since it came out.

If I wanted to wait until retirement for a update I would still be playing 40K Chaos.

Many in our gaming community are selling off their X Wing on ebay because they are tired of FFG'S constant delays.

Do the dials sets count as 1 Release or 3 Releases?

We presuppose that the boat will go from one point to another in a direct line.

It may be that the boat needs the circumnavigate the globe thrice for luck or perhaps it has been detoured by Somali pirates.

I did a pre-order a month ago and have other released items tied up with it that I can't get until Vets drops.

Such a pain!

I will never preorder FFG items again!

never ever pre order ffg. it shows your age. =3

Speaking of delays, what ever happened to multi colored pegs?

I have been following closely the release of the Imperial Veterans, mainly so that I can get it shipped with bunch of other stuff.

You wouldn't imagine my surprise when I learned that this expansion was available in two separate retail stores (I will not disclose in which country, but it is not US or anywhere in Europe), ~10 days ago. It turns out not to be a hoax, and due to the high demand I was too slow to grab a copy for myself, but my buddies did.

I guess this just shows that not all distributors are born equal, and still do not get it why FFG still has their status as "on the boat"? Also, this is something Fox can use as the X-Files season 11 premiere.

The game is only good if you get regular new shots of your drug?

Crazy town huh?

If no one knew of a next wave, or release date, or if the game was altogether OOP, I suspect those people would still be happy playing it, and doing all they could with the expansion they had. But, since we (myself included) can't have something teasing us, we get all put-off by it and don't like it as much.

I have decided to mostly ignore any FFG teases and announced dates. I just am trying to focus on what's here and now. Which, by the way, is a great and fun game.

Maybe FFG is trying to teach us a more disciplined way to live. By focusing on the now, we are able to achieve nirvana. But, should we focus on how late the announced models are, we realize that is the folly of lusting for what we cannot have. -- today's meditation.
