Curious about parts/scavanging.

With the new crafting rules, and the fact that my Technician will have little to no combat skill ranks, I was figuring I'd turn into the best quartermaster possible for my group. It's not efficient, but I'll be going Outlaw Tech and Cybernetist specializations to start out with Utinni, tinkerer and cybernetist for easier parts, cheaper mods and cybernetics.

What I'm curious about is recycling and how do you play it. Default Energy Pistol template is 200/3 credits/rarity I believe, while the gun with same stats is 400/4. If our group picks up 4 rifles, how many gun parts worth could I get, any suggestions on a formula on picking functioning weapons/armors and gadgets into parts?

I haven't done a ton with the crafting rules, but so far I've used about a 25% conversion rate (so the PCs have to have 4 fully-functioning versions of the item they aim to craft in order to salvage the parts for 1 custom item), and it's worked fine. Partly, this choice was based on the base sell-rate in the game, which is also 25%, and partly based on intuition from real life "crafting"/construction work in my own hobby time.

I'd love to know how other folks have worked it out.

For scavenging I had been working on a Jakku Force Awakens style game.

I made a d100 roll table of things you could find, and something like 1-10 were spare parts.

The way I did it is to roll a D10. On a roll of 1-4 you roll for something on the common table, on a roll of 5-7 you get something uncommon, and 8-9 you get something rare, 10 is a reroll.

You then roll a D100 on a table to see what you would get. I only used items of low value overall and took thing like size/weight and added the usefulness on a desert planet with no food.

I did all this before crafting rules and need to remake the table to account for that. I was thinking that this could actually be a decent solo game to see how long you can survive.

Talked with my current GM, it's gonna be basically like selling items, using mechanics check to increase the amount of materials worth I can scrounge up. Since my gun skills will be low, this Gank will probably run around with a backpack and be a filthy hoarder.
