Where the hell is Obi-Wan?

By Jwrein1202, in X-Wing

I personally do not think Yoda or Obi-wan have any place in X-wing. There is a better argument for Ob-wan than there is Yoda, but there have been two Falcon sets now and I don't see him as being anything other than a crew for the Falcon.

In a way, Obi-wan IS in the game. Deadeye feels like Obi-wan helping Luke guide the torpedo without a target lock. The T-65 X-wing also came with Marksmanship (a similar effect as what Obi-wan helps Luke do while flying a starfighter).

But if they did make an Obi-wan crew card it should be as follows:

Obi-wan

Rebel only - Crew

0 points

When Obi-wan is needed most, flip this card face-down and tell yourself to "use the force" instead.

Why not?

If it's because they're dead, half the pilots or crew in the game are dead. Many of them before the OT (e.g. inquisitor).

If it's because they're not shown prominently flying or crewing starships in the OT, then FFG should've stopped publishing new material waves ago as half of the current pilots (e.g. all of the bounty hunters except Boba did nothing more than stand and grunt for 30 seconds in Empire).

If you take into account their activity in the clone wars and/or the Legends EU (both of which have led to many other pilots and crew being in the game) there is plenty of justification.

Can't believe no one said "flying is for droids" yet.

question is what would obi-wan do?

Best thing he'd be good for is what Deadeye already does or C3P0 (adds an evade because he warned you).

Perhaps a once per game Focus dump for all ships at any point in the turn? "At any point, you may discard this card to assign one focus token to every friendly ship." - would enable a lot of timed attack stuff or possibly save something's butt because you rolled 2-3 eyes and had no focus and would die without it.

Obi Wan and Yoda both need to show up. So does Jabba. Just because someone isn't known for being a Pilot, doesn't mean we don't want to see them in our game! Heck Leia doesn't really do much aboard ships either, (Other than steal kisses from Han when nobody is looking), but she's also a crew. We've also got other crew that we've never seen do stuff on a ship, heck almost all of the scum crew was never SHOWN in a film performing actions on board a ship. Doesn't mean they don't know how to.

To all of those saying 'Obi-Wan is dead': so are half the named characters in the game. What did Palpatine ever do for a ship, and he's one of the best crew cards in the game.

Legal work. Approved funding, allowed testing, watch demonstrations, went to airshows, kept up with supplies, made sure the workers were on schedule... It takes allot for an empire to run.

Actually including Jabba would be hilarious. Definitely a 2crew slot for scum for some obscene power.

Jabba should be huge ship only (once scum actually gets those) because he's too big to fit on large ships.

He turned one die per round throughout the entire battle of Endor, and dying broke the morale of his fleet and spelled the end of the empire as its armada scattered to the far reaches of the galaxy.

My favorite Obi-Wan line for this game is "You can't win, but there are alternatives to fighting."

I'd like to see Obi-Wan as a crew card you can discard to prevent your ship from being targeted by enemy ships for the round, with the drawback that you can't make any attacks yourself.

You could park yourself on a rock, discard Obi-Wan, and stay safe through the combat round. Sound like a familiar scene?

Obi-Wan is chilling in the lobby with Kylo Ren, who is still waiting for an introduction to this game despite being the main villain of the last movie.

Kylo will be a crew card on the Upsilon, presumably. Beyond that, I figure they'll wait and see if he pilots something in Episode 8.

He said fire at will and a Mon Cal cruiser exploded. What else do you want him to do?!

Proposed Obi Wan card: You may say "your eyes deceive you" and discard this card to turn all your results to Hits or Evade.

The weird part is that he was a crew member during the first dogfight in Star Wars. You'd think he'd be high priority for a crew card, but I guess FFG's just biding their time.

Crew members actually do things. Obi Wan was a passenger.

Plus, the first dogfight was after they escaped the Death Star. I mean, he might always be with Luke, but he wasn't actually on the Millennium Falcon.

Wherein he looked uncomfortable as **** and was all too happy to book it to the common area and strap in.

'When you are declared the target of an attack, you may perform a free boost action, then assign one evade token to your ship and discard this card.'

Sounds about right...

Eh....we're talking about the Falcon vs a quickly-running-away-after-firing TIE Fighter in the "asteroids", right?

No, he stuck that one out in the cockpit. Indeed, identified the fighter before Han did, AND identified the Death Star as a threat before Han did.

Yeah, okay.

Who is your favourite pilot? Serioussu?

To those saying he wasn't useful at all have a point but what exactly did C3P0 contribute whilst on the Falcon? Seeing as he is one of the best crew cards in the game invalidates any such argument surely?

Since Clone Wars proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that Obi-Wan actually hates starships, I'm guessing his desire to become an X-Wing crew card are pretty low.

"Flying is for droids!"

He interpreted R2-D2 and delivered some very important information from time to time (when he was actually listened to).

"Flying is for droids!"

Sigh...proof that people don't read posts.

Or recognize references to popular movies?

LOL!

well now that we got the ARC... just wait. prequel ships. Jedi Starfighters... Anakin Pilot and Obi-wan pilot cards will be making an appearance soon.

on another note... now that Rebels is being so heavily adapted for Xwing... why no Ashoka as crew or pilot? She could have been included in the Phantom easily. I'm still half-expecting another A-Wing expansion between Rouge One and Wave 8. There is so much they can pull from for new A-Wing crazyiness!

C3PO was a critical player in the story. He explained the odds of successfully navigating an asteroid field, an important note that all sabacc players like to know. He also, and more importantly, told R2D2 to let the Wookiee win. Had he not, R2D2 would have had his arms rip off, thereby assuring, months later, still been drawing Droid Unemployment and Disability pay, instead of taking a job as a bartender on Jabba's pleasure skiff. Then who woulda thrown a perfectly timed and impeccable well-placed lightsaber to Luke. Han and Chewy would have died, Boba Fett would have collected an obscene number of extra bounties not being in a Sarlacc's gullet, and Leia...well, I shudder to think of poor Leia, forced to wear that bikini until she passed her prime, left to toil as a chain smoking, over the hill, washed out slave, now serving drinks in Mos Eisley.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Crew

Rebel Only

Whenever nearby planet is destroyed, gain one stress. Discard Obi-Wan card to force opponent to discard one Tractor Beam.

1 pt

Most light-side force related characters have something to do with stress and/or focus (Luke, Kanan, Ezra). I'm thinking that Obi-wan should follow the trend. It's not super-original, but maybe something like:

"During the beginning of the combat phase, remove a stress token from a friendly ship and assign it a focus token."

Maybe for 7 points? It could enable Obi-Aces builds for the rebels by allowing them to abuse PTL despite not having a lot of greens.
