Wave IX - Reaction...meh

By Segmentvs, in X-Wing

I for one want to say a heartfelt goodbye to the old EU purists.

It seems that the days of your love and passion are coming to an end in XWing, and I can imagine you might be hurt by this or possibly leave the game. I won't know how the forum will be the same without you telling me about versions of the Tie I never knew about are better then the Ties that FFG chose to produce or how an obscure old EU ship looks a lot like the new ship from a new movie but the new ship is much worse. Your wisdom and clarity will be missed.

For those who stay, I applaud your strength in these hard times. I will look for you at tournaments, the ones playing only play up to wave 7 ships in a crusade to stick to what you believe in.

FFG has been pretty clear that they will still reach in to Legends when they feel like it. And honestly, those ships you have never heard of from such and such source, at least a number of players have some type of emotional attachment to. The Shadowcaster? I'm hard pressed to find any player that feels much if any attachment to it. The cool thing about X-wing is it can create that attachment, so there is some hope, but it isn't getting many points for the nostalgia factor, that's for sure.

Yeah let's hope those elitist jerks never get the TIE Defender or TIE Phantom. Here's to TIE fighter clone mark IV.

How dare they have HWK290s....

JM5Ks? They aren't Canon!!!

And will someone shut those "I've read the book hipsters" up about the Z-95?!

How dare they have HWK290s....

:o

E and K wings? Not seen them either.

TIE Punisher???

Well really. TIE Punisher.

Also Khiraxz.

Decimator...

Look, there are too **** many. So really... to those saying EU is going anywhere regarding new ships.... Yeah, you are stupid. There is just way too much precedent, and the E+K were 2 waves ago. Also Mist hunter and JM5K WERE LAST SODDING WAVE!!! Seriously. The level of dumb required to jump to that conclusion is truly astounding.

Personally, I'm hoping FFG never release a gunboat, just to prove a point.

That's a rather sad and infantile attitude.

The Hwk is Canon, Defender is Canon. Z-95 is Canon.

Nostalgia is a great factor for this game, I love playing all the Dark Forces characters in a list with some Shadows of the Empire guys as well. I also will be so excited to fly an all t-70 list or Rey versus some Tie Special Forces, because the new movies excited me and got me engaged. If another legends ship came out, I would not post a specific topic stating how I did not like the fact it was not canon.

However, I will continue to read all your witty posts, you masters of comedy.

Those three are canon migrants. They started out non canon.

Doesn't stop JM5K+ Space Hind being LAST WAVE AND NOT CANON!

God, next you know we'll have OT purists telling us that we can't have prequel ships in the game or something...

You're jumping to the conclusion that I hate old EU or don't want the ships in the game... so... hmm. Your statement is well worded.

I was poking fun that some would be jumping happy to see the Tie Avenger on the board with the same stats, price and abilities of the Tie SF but are sad about the Tie SF being in the game.

It's okay though, I know my original joke was misleading in it's wording.

Don't you mean the TIE Aggressor?

Dude it's not just directed at you, I've seen a whole bunch of "oh too bad, no more EU ship" posts and well...

Yeah I stick to my comment there.

See my comment regarding the ARC.

I'd like to see more or less every ship from the timeline of each trilogy in there at some point, with the exception of the real stinkers.(Flying Hornet, TIE Hunter) I am sure we'll see a whack of them eventually.

I might? Which one is the Avenger?

I will personally rejoice on any new ship they bring in to the game and whilst there are models I want more and others I want less, but I am always just happy to see the game growing.

That said, even having played TIE fighter to death in the 90's, I don't know that I understand the "GUNBOAT!" love beyond a sentimental yearning that has become a collective hysteria :P

Avenger is the production model of the advanced.

With Wave IX, there is no real flow or theme. We have a Clone Wars era ship, a Force Awakens era ship, and two ships for S&V from Rebels.

Well, the "theme" is new arcs of fire: 2 small ships with a rear arc (not new, but new to small ships) and a positional arc. The ship's source in the Star Wars lore is irrelevant save that they are ships that should feature these abilities based on the lore.

As an casual Imp player, I am "meh" to see yet another TIE variant as the only release. Sure, the TIE/sf will be cool, but it would be nice to see a Large ship for a change.

Personally, I'm hoping FFG never release a gunboat, just to prove a point.

That's a rather sad and infantile attitude.

So is the number of people whining about the fact they haven't got what they wanted.

Avenger is the dagger winged evolution of the Advanced.

You are a bad poster and you should feel bad.

What does it matter to you if people want a specific ship or not?

I'll say the worst wave for me was Wave 5. Two new big Primary Weapon Turret ships? Bleh. I almost quit the game after they came out, but making the Tie Bomber work was what made me stick through it.

THANK YOU! It seems really obvious to me that the theme is game play related as opposed to era or style of ships. It's all about extra firing arcs and bringing back jousting. These guys are meant to be a counter to arc dodgers. I'm completely hyped about that.

I do have to point out that the ARC-170 isn't a Clone Wars era ship only any more. It's not like they are bring in a ship from the Clone Wars. They are bringing a ship that had been flown then and refitted for the Rebellion. It has no generic pilots and all the pilots listed are Galatic Civl War era pilots. It's now a Civil War era ship....much like the Y-wing and Z-95.

I also totally get that FFG is pressured by Disney to move ahead with products from the new stuff. I totally get that a ship in Ep 7 that isn't released gets released before the Assault Gunboat...which is from a video game 20 years ago that even I never played. I'm sure a lot more regular players are more familiar with the TIE/SF FO. I mean, it was on the screen for more than 10 seconds.

I get that the Shadow Caster isn't well loved or that people don't feel a connection to it. It was in....one episode of Rebels so far? It's sure to be in more episodes, but not much so far. It's not a bad ship. They are going with 2 Scum per wave to let them catch up, so what else would they put out for Scum that was also a large based ship? I'm fine with this. It's got some cool mechanics.

Wave 5... I can see why you wouldn't like it, but the 2400 is iconic and the Deci is a sexy **** ship. It was my favourite SWG ship after the Y-wing (shadowblade needs to be a title) and Y-8.

Back to it though, the only wave I can honestly say I kinda whined about was 7.

I was not alone. Even then, I kinda like the K-wing, or FFG's take on it.

To me Heroes of the resistance makes absolute total sense. It's the TFA expansion TFA players wanted. TIE /SF is the icing to that.

And ARCS. I'll get 4. One of which to be put aside for custom painting and decaling.

I need to find some way I can make them work with K-wings in tandem.

I've never ever played Scum. Wave 9 will change that. I just like the Fangs and Shadowcaster too much.

Tbh they had their best chance to release the Gunboat (and Alex admitted this) with the Punisher wave. But instead someone (and I suspect that's in Lucasfilm) believes that a non TIE starfighter design would confuse fans.

I generally hate the Clone Wars and anything prequel (that's not Rebels) but if they release a Clone War BTL-B Y-Wing, I could almost live without a Gunboat.

Personally, I'm hoping FFG never release a gunboat, just to prove a point.

You are a bad poster and you should feel bad.

What does it matter to you if people want a specific ship or not?

A) I don't. It's not like my views make it more or less likely to happen.

B) It doesn't. But when every other thread (and every other post in the other threads) are 'I want gunboats, why don't I have gunboats, I deserve a gunboat', it gets pretty tiresome. There are plenty of other ships people would like to see and are disappointed that they didn't get, but they're not going on about it and are instead looking forward to what they are getting.

Fair point, I'd like the BTLB too. Though, i'd probably get a mels for that.

Really I'd like more Rebel Y-wing pilots. Ones with EPTs.

Also, and I am gonna say this as a blanket to everyone:

Please don't take wild speculation or someone like me saying "i'd like this and this, and also this" as whining about not getting something.

Yeah, we all know I want the Gunboat, Avenger, DX-9 and R-41 (and Krayt) I wanted the ARC too.

I love what we are getting. I just want to RPG an entire living universe with loads of different pretty star wars toys. Most of us are happy. I'm not seeing that much whining from the crowd who want ships that aren't out yet.
