This year, the Michigan GT will be hosting an X-Wing event! This is the first year that X-Wing will be presented, and my hope is that there is enough interest generated to keep it happening every year.
The Michigan GT is hosted in Lansing, MI, and this year will be Sep 30 to Oct 2. Presumably, online registration will begin around June 1st. Players can register online or at the event. Once the website goes live with this years information I will update this post with more information.
I have finalized the vents we will be running. As it is only me running this year (introductory year), I'm limited on all the events we will be doing, so thus only three events. My hope is that with enough support this year, we can begin to add a few more events and volunteers to help me out next year. Below is the information for the vents being run:
Friday Sep 30 - Escalation Tournament
- On site Registration at 4pm - Skids up at 5pm. Format will involve three rounds. 1st round at 60 points, 2nd round at 90 points, 3rd round at 120 points. 90 and 120 point round list must be built off of list from prior round.
Saturday Oct 1 - Standards Swiss Round Tournament
- On site Registration starts at 9am - skids up at 10am. This is the standard X-Wing tournament format. We will play anywhere from 4 to 6 rounds based on attendance, with a cut to top 8 or top 16 based on that attendance. Top 8/16 cut finals will be held on Sunday Oct 2nd.
Sunday Oct 2nd - Narrative and Swiss Cut Finals
- Top Swiss cut finals start at 10am
- On site Registration for Narrative starts at 10am, skids up at 11am.
Narrative info: Etahn’s Eviscerators. Etahn A’Baht’s miscreant band of mischief makers and rabble rousers take on other pirate factions for dominance of the pirate sector SGC-762. Which pirate faction will stand to rule them all?
Rules: 120 point list. All lists must include Etahn A’Baht, setup in any fashion you wish. The remainder of the list may include ships from any faction, but cannot include duplicate ships, unique pilots, or large base ships. Whoever scores the highest points after 3 to 4 rounds (based on attendance) is crowned sector champion! Exceptions: Y-Wings can take turrets, limited to 5pts, and must have the BTL-A4 upgrade attached. K-Wings are allowed but may not take an additional turret upgrade.
Who will dominate pirate sector SGC-762?!
There will be prize support included for all events.
The Michigan GT started as a Warhammer 40K convention about 4 years ago, and has grown since. This year there are a large number of games being supported, and X-Wing, with it's massive popularity and draw, was a shoe-in for game support. I'm looking forward to hopefully meeting new people, new faces, and fun and fresh attitudes this year. We have some terrific prize support for each event, including official FFG prize support in the form of OP kit prizes, and a lot of third party prize support. Once we have finalized all the prize support we will have available, the information will be made public on the website and I'll update this post.
Let's give X-Wing the rightful introduction it deserves in the Michigan GT this year, and join me for a weekend of fun.
I would like to give a shout out to the Steele Open this year. I was watching one of their twitch feeds from this years festivities and they mentioned that terrific idea for the pirate match. I decided to run something very similar to it, and I hope they aren't upset. Seeing as I'm the one running everything this year, I needed a little creativity help with the Narrative event, and I really liked the idea behind it.
I'd also like to say there will be some live Twitch streaming this year of the X-Wing festivities, as long as I can get it all managed to do so. One step at a time though.

X-Wing events at the MichiganGT! Event Registration is open!
Question on the narrative ... understand unique pilots are not allowed (except Etahn). I assume unique upgrades are OK since they aren't specifically prohibited?
Edit: Q2 ... are cross-faction upgrades allowed? Boba Fett crew on a Phantom, for example.
Edited by HawkstrikeQ1. Unique upgrades are allowed, but still abide by the Unique rule, meaning you can't have two Boba Fett crew cards in the same list.
Q2. While I am allowing any named unique upgrades, I am currently debating requiring any faction specific upgrade to be used only on that same factions ship, I.E. Boba Fett can be played on a Hawk or a G1A, but cannot be put on a TIE Phantom or Tie Bomber with the Title upgrade. However I haven't completely made up my mind on this one yet. I could be persuaded in either direction, and have been looking at the combinations available, especially with the high number of synergizing crew the scum have. I'll make a decision closer to the convention.
Edited by droz69Still plenty of room for this event, just FYI
Boba Fett on Ten Numb with a Mangler Cannon lmao
Signed up! Will be my very first tourney – trying to get some friends to go with me, but I'll man up and roll solo if needed.
Boba Fett on Ten Numb with a Mangler Cannon lmao
While that would be funny, the list is restricted to only Etahn that can be unique, so Ten Numb can't be in. Still hilarious.

Hey Droz69,
I signed up for the standard tournament, and promptly found out I can't make it that Saturday thanks to work. Emailed the info address about it already; do you know who to reach out to about trying to change my Sat ticket to the Sunday (narrative) event?
Thanks!

I wanted to update everyone on Prize support.
Prize support will include a variety of the following:
Official FFG OP Kit stuff, likely summer kit and whatever else we can get our hands on
Ships, ranging from small expansions packs to epic ship expansion packs
Possibly some Wave 9 ships
Should there be a release of anything on 9/30 (Force Friday), there will be at least 1 ship of whatever is released available for Prize Support.
Custom acrylic templates and tokens
An X-Wing tournament Tray from Angry Mojo Games, emblazoned with the Michigan GT Logo. (This goes to the Champion of the standard championship that runs Saturday and Sunday)
Tournament Trophies for each event
Prizes will be spread over all three events.
There are still plenty of tickets available for all events. Looking for a strong showing so we can continue the event at future GT events.
Convention passes are $10 for the whole weekend, and then event prices range from $10 to $25.
Hope to see people from the area there!
I've just received word that not only will there be ships, customer tokens, and custom templates, but we will officially have FFG support. Don't quote me yet, as I'm awaiting a 100% confirmation on this, but from what I've gathered, We will have the same Alt Art card choices, or very similar, to those found at Gen Con this year, as well as likely an OP kit. So if you couldn't make it out to Gen Con and want to get some pretty cool swag, sign up and come out! The GenCon type swag is only available for the Championship Event. Sign up and come out and have some fun!
2 more weeks for sign ups. If you are planning on attending please consider preregistration so that we could get as accurate of a headcount as we can. Looking forward to seeing everyone there. Also, if wave 9 releases on the 22nd as rumors have told us, we will make it legal to use those ships.
Fellas, here is a sampling of some of the prizes available. For the Championship event, Top 8 will receive a full set of acrylic tokens, and top 4 will receive a set of these beautiful templates. Still looking for signups, plenty of room. FFG Swag and other great prizes available for all events. Sign up and join us at www.michigangt.com/shop .

Week and a half left to preregister. Come join us!
Gentlemen, just a small update. To get a top 8, we need at least 24 players. At this point it will be a top 4. Prizes will likely be reduced to top 4 if this is the case, for the templates and such. There will still be participation prizes for all that attend.
if wave 9 hits on the 22nd or 23rd like its supposed to will it be legal for the GT?
if wave 9 hits on the 22nd or 23rd like its supposed to will it be legal for the GT?
Yes, it will be legal. It's not a premiere event. Wave 9 will be legal all weekend.
Still plenty of time to sign up before next weekend. Come join us!
Still plenty of slots available. Update for those coming to the escalation game on Friday. The match will start at 6 instead of 5 to accommodate some individuals who are driving in from work that day. All else is business as usual. Come join us!
Can you sign up Friday night?
Yes, you can. We are taking walkins, though we would prefer pre-registration to get an accurate number count for spacing. But yes, if you wish to sign up that evening when you get there, absolutely.
I'm already signed up I'm just trying to recruit some more players.
Cool! More the merrier.
As an FYI, Online signups will end sometime tomorrow. We will still take walk-ins up to our maximum capacity for the event in question.
Max Capacity for Friday and Sunday will be 16.
Max Capacity for Saturday will be set to 32 at this point. That said, we will likely do the top cut matches this same day. If we get 32, it will be a top 8 cut.
We have 16 slots left for the main event. Signup now if you want to reserve a spot. Once online registration ends, it will be a first come first serve basis for the event.
The hope was we would get a whole lot more signups, but that didn't happen this time out, which is understandable. It's the first time for this event. We will bring it back again next year, and will have as much prize support as we are having this year, if not more.
Good news for the GT. We were able to acquire a considerable amount of extra space. As such we have plenty of room for many more signups. We will still be closing sign ups later this afternoon for online registration but will now have a lot more room for as many walk-ups that wish to show up for any of our events. Come have some fun with us!
