Next wave is on the boat!!!

Can we be realistic for a moment?

The alternative would be for them to release three figure packs and by the way you can't use these. That isn't going to work either, FFG just wouldn't release them.

Then release them later when we get a time period 1 or 2 campaign. Instead of just "$$$$ what are other famous Star Wars character names we can sell?"

And that might be years away or never, again this is "I don't want this so no one should have it" syndrome.

If your in keeping your games in Theme then you will not be adding these characters to a Hoth campaign, do you really need FFG to put time period 0-1 on the card? What exactly do the time periods on the cards achieve?

I will not be adding them to any campaign I run but I am very happy to add them and the new force user cards to skirmish, so I am glad they are releasing them, I want more iconic characters not less.

According to USPS tracking, I'll have Inquisitor and Obi-Wan in a couple hours. Any questions that weren't answered by the previews?

This scene is one of the many, many reasons, why I despise Rebels to my core.

Yeah, that and a few other parts were very lame.

This was not though:

...... why do they keep on giving the rights to Star Wars to those who have an intent to destroy it.

This is the stupidest thing I've ever seen in Star Wars and THIS is the new canon people prefer over the EU?

No this is "I wish FFG would stop taking a **** on Star Wars" syndrome. And don't give me the "if you don't like it, don't buy it" bull either. That reasoning is completely stupid considering it means I have to wait even LONGER for new content now. There are tons of other characters that they could have released that would be usable in time period 3 and 5.

Yes. I do need/want FFG to put timelines on these missions. 1. They've already established the rule. 2. Why can't people who don't care just ignore that? Why does it have to be the other way around? 3. What is the point of making Obi-wan and etc if you are just going to IGNORE their entire story?

Without the timelines on these cards, the entire background of these iconic characters is destroyed. Obi-wan might as well be old jedi dude... Greedo might as well be some random rodian... etc. Instead, FFG just wanted a quick paycheck so they slapped these together without giving any care about involving them in any story.

Now we'll never see these characters in any storylines... Instead they are 100% separate from any story (besides their single side-mission) because FFG wanted a quick buck.

PS. I have zero intention of buying these PoS figure packs now. I'll just ebay the item cards cause thats the only usable part.

What disclaimer?

They all say something to the effect of, "to ensure the raddest possible experience, there's no time period for the cards in this pack and the missions can be used in any campaign."

Where's the Dislike button?

But seriously dropping time periods is the first thing FFG has done to upset me. The fact that I felt that I was making a story that could be real in the star wars universe was the biggest draw to me towards this game. Now I have to ask myself, "Why not go back to WotC's SWM game?" I can have the same level of "fake Star Wars" but I get plenty more figures and way more maps!

The helicopter light sabers is the one thing that pisses me off about Rebels. It's pretty clear the writers failed grade 8 science and failed it hard. But with J.J. making the movies and giving us laser hilts, Mary Sues, soccer ball robots and horny resistance betraying storm troopers, it's pretty much keeping in theme. Just pretend there is an anti-grav unit in the hilt powered by spinning or something. I mean, they're Sith, it's not like they can't just float themselves around with their mind anyway.

Well, they're not really Sith since there are only ever two, the master (Emperor) and apprentice (Vader). They're just very well trained dark-side force users who can hold their own rather well against fully trained ex-Jedi and nearly-fully trained ex-Padawans and Padawans without full training, but die easily against fully trained ex-Sith apprentices who have had half of their body cut off and then replaced with cybernetic legs after having been a half-person/half-spider for many years. Really, your misuse of the word Sith is mind-boggling, noob ;). Next you'll be claiming that Kylo Ren is a Sith! Hahahahaha...

Because it's subjective? This strikes me as equivalently stupid as an allegedly elite squadron of Stormtroopers getting absolutely dunked on by spear chucking teddy bears in RotJ... but some people think Ewoks are badass.

I agree that this is the laziest possible implementation of these characters within Imperial Assault. But I don't know that we'll "never" see stories with these characters. I'd wait for the next big box to release before we see if the time period concept has been totally ditched, or if it's just for the ally/villain packs. I don't see why they couldn't release a time period 1 expansion, include the cardboard tokens for Obi-Wan, Greedo, Inquisitor, etc.

Yes, I definitely think it was lazy and inconsistent to not put timelines on these guys. Because of the inconsistency it's going to eventually turn into everyone using whoever they want on whatever campaign they want. I mean, for crying out loud if I can have the inquisitor in Hoth (who was dead five years before Yavin) then why can't I have Lando in the core?

I hate inconsistency, if the rule doesn't apply for SOME then it shouldn't apply for ANY.

I hate inconsistency, if the rule doesn't apply for SOME then it shouldn't apply for ANY.

This is the larger issue for me.

I do understand why FFG wouldn't want to produce content that can't be used within the majority of the campaigns they've already released. And I don't begrudge them for putting something out there that's going to sell. Obi-Wan is going to move more units than "Steve: Jedi Master nobody realized was also in hiding and happened to be alive past the destruction of the first Death Star." Greedo is going to move more units than Hired Guns, I'd wager.

But the lack of consistency is a bummer, for sure.

I don't think FFG had any real reason to NOT include timelines.

GUARANTEED, they would sell with a timeline for the following reasons:

1) Out of the excitement and anticipation of a future campaign for time period 1.

2) For skirmish.

3) For the skirmish and campaign cards.

4) For the collectability of the figures themselves.

Oh yes, I agree with that. I was more referring to why they'd use Obi-Wan and Greedo instead of a generic equivalent.

A generic Steve the Jedi Master would not sell, but Matt, Radar Technician would sell like hotcakes!

As to the timeline thing, is FFG holding a gun to your head forcing you to use Obi-wan on Hoth? Are they preventing you from prohibiting the use those figures in your campaign? Are they stopping you from making house rules on how or when to use them?

No? Didn't think so. No one is forcing you to buy anything. Just have fun playing the game the way you and your friends want. Change any rules you don't like. Use whatever characters you like.

Just stop whining.

My opinion is this was a decision made by some administrative bean counter. The people who designed IA wanted time periods. They made time periods. They stuck to the time periods. The packs sold well. All of a sudden, they release packs that just about EVERYONE would want even if not usable in current campaigns, but they ditched the time period because some muckety-muck said "why would we want to limit people in using these packs, wouldn't that decrease sales?" Not realizing that sales would be just fine if not better if they stuck to the original plan. VERY FEW PEOPLE WOULD NOT BUY THESE PACKS JUST BECAUSE THE TIME PERIODS WERE LIMITING!!!
