Rotating arcs and out of arcs triggers?

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

So lets talk about it with a rotating firing arc it essentially could have a firing arc in any direction just not at the same time. So I guess how does this affects pilots like Backstabber or upgrades like out maneuver or most importantly autothrusters?

So while we wait for the explanation and FAQ from FFG should we have a discussion here instead. When does the rotating arc affect in-arc triggers. Well not saying which one is better but there is 4 possible declarations from least restrictive to most restrictive definitions.

  1. All 4 are quadrants are firing arcs so everything is in arc at all times.
  2. Only the firing arc selected and the Primary (front) firing arc are considered in arc. Everything else is out of arc.
  3. Only the selected firing arc. Primary arc will count as in arc if it was selected.
  4. Only the primary (front) firing arc. Other arcs count as out of arc even if selected.

I am sure 1 and 4 will probably not be the starting ruling but it could end up like that after an errata just like cloaking and decloaking so I will leave those unlikely options on the table. I am thinking 3 would be the likely ruling. So what do you think and how will it affect the game?

Unless there's some revelation that says the rotating arc is a firing arc it's going to be 4.

Otherwise 2.

I'm about 95% sure it'll be #2. Maaaybe #4. According tot he current faq, a firing arc is the printed, shaded portion of the ship's base. So by current rules it's #4, but I'm fairly confident there'll be something in the reference card or rules insert that states that whichever arc you've got currently selected as the mobile firing arc will also count (it DOES have 'firing arc' right there in the name after all...)

No way it's 1 or 3 though

Ships with a mobile firing arc have two arcs: their primary firing arc and their mobile firing arc. A ship is considered "in your firing arc" if and only if it's in your mobile firing arc or your primary firing arc.

I see a primary arc (the shaded one) and then a bunch of lines. IF the mobile arc counts as an arc (I suspect it will) then it will be treated like an auxiliary arc. There's no way they just gave scum the first 360 arc ship.

Probably 2, but until we see the rules insert we can't really be sure.

2. It makes the most sense by a mile. 1 is just outright pointless.

Have to admit this thing's potential kinda scares me. If he has a turret discount with the arc limitation, TLTs or ICTs will be basically a free upgrade. If on the other hand they get a buff, say add 1 die and/or change a blank to a focus, then Autoblaster turret is going to be mean. Right now autoblasters arent used just because its terrible range and even with the anti-hit dodge, 2 dice still isnt that amazing for that slot. If it goes to 3dice though....frak my aces are gonna be poopin' themselves lol

#2 seems most reasonable.

There's a rules reference card. I won't bother worrying about it until we see that, and also how the action works to change it.

That said, I'm guessing 2 by your suggestions.

This will put a new meaning into arc dodging

This if how turrets should have been

Not sure what youre trying to say here. The shadowcaster cant equip a turret upgrade. And they arent changing regular turrets...

Well no one is saying 1 (not surprised) unless it was to used the rules now which would likely be FAQ so 1 won't be an option (Backstabber is safe)

Funny that a lot of people are saying 4. and the main debate is between 2 and 3.

It won't matter much, the only things I can think of are Backstabber and Outmanouver, neither of which are used in the mainstream and can await FAQ. The ship won't be able to attack outside of the primary or mobile arc.

You have separate primary and mobile arcs (you can tell that much from the abilities that require something to bein both primary and mobile arcs), so there's exactly 0% chance that number 3 is right. And #1 is just as likely. There's no possible way it's anything but 2 or 4, with 2 being the more likely.

Autothrusters as well (if it was #4, they'd get autothrusters against the mobile arc)
