If you are curious what wave 9 retail kits, and closeups of the models, looks like...

By xanderf, in X-Wing

Whoa. We're gonna see these pretty **** soon then. Nice!

There are basically ready to ship.

At the end of the official announcement: "Look for Wave IX and its expansions to arrive at retailers late in the third quarter of 2016". Sounds like September to me.

That would be lovely, even though September is smack-bang in the middle of Q3. Given what we've seen with FFG and release dates, I suspect it'll be closer to Christmas. Hope to be wrong, however.

And I don't know how FFG work, but these could well be the initial mock-up/POC's and not necessarily ready to ship.

Again, hope to be proven wrong.

"even though September is smack-bang in the middle of Q3"?

Q3 is Jul-Sep, so September is at the end, not in the middle. ;)

I even checked their fiscal calendar and that runs parallel to the standard calendar year, so Fiscal Q3 is the same as Calendar Q3 in their case.

As for how accurate that is, I have no idea. I'm new to FFG products so don't know their track record on predicting release windows.

Doh. Going to blame this on a 14 hour day that included 3 flights. You are spot on. However, their track record of keeping to release dates would still lead me to believe the product will be late.

Again - hope to proven wrong. The more plastic crack I buy, the less my soul aches ;)

So I'm sure it's posted somewhere else I can't find. But is it a different SF TIE model than the FO? Or are we buying the same model stocked with different cards?

Looks to be slightly different with the added red stripe, but haven't (yet) seen a pic showing a turret.

Hah! So they didn't do the turret at all!

LOL

Well, there wasn't really a way around that. The stupid thing was literally directly where the stand needed to be.

Would have had to be one of the B-Wing-style 'peg in the back' sort of things, and I can see why they didn't want to go that way.

I dunno fella's...

I'm lookin' at a K-Wing here that has a pretty fiddly stupid tiny turret on it and I'm thinking something would be better than, well... nothing.

I haven't seen a picture of hte back yet, I'm holding out hope that there is a rear facing turret that somehow gets around the stand issue. But hey, I'm a cock-eyed optimist and I'm ok with that ;)

So it is basically another TIE/Fo with a different paintjob.

I am hardly overjoyed and honestly I am not sure I will buy it.

Yep... another TIE/FO that has an antenna mount, gears on the inner wings, heavy lasers under the cockpit, and yes... red stripe.

This is a different model. Not hugely, but the details are there. Very obviously there too...

A shame they can't fit the underslung turret. Can't see from the photos but the back should have a view port for the copilot and its ion engines extended out and away. Other than that we do see the cog like reinforced struts as well as an extended antenna relay, so yeah, it has a few different details compared to the regular Tie F/O but still more or less similar in silhouette.

It's a totally different sculpt. Antenna, those thick 'gears' on the inner wings, etc etc

Not to mention that the entire rear of the craft is differrent.

The turret on the SF is right in the middle under the cockpit, so there is no way to do it with the standard peg placement. Also, it is rather small, so IMHO there would be no point to alter the peg mount just so FFG could attach a tiny black blob underneath.

We can't see the back of the model in those blister shots. But the SF is significantly different from the standard FO. The cockpit ball is larger, there are the cogs at the panel roots and then the back is completely different:

So, with Tie design logic applied, those two big circles on each side of the viewport are mini Solar ionization converters and the mall nubs under them are the actual engines.

Actually, with modern advances, we could manufacture clear solar panels/coating for windows. So, the colour doesnt matter.

Also, TIEs have liquid fuel, the solar panels kickstart the ignition of the fuel. Solar spark-plugs as it were.

I love how much more colorful these ships in this wave are for some reason. Digging it.

Solar based panels would take away potential maximum energy from the Death Star 3.0 draining a sun. Would be that much less energy to punish the infidels, we can't be having that now

And I do applaud the Luddites who haven't felt compelled to create an account on FB so they too can freely get access to information (like the above) and share common interests. Bravo!

I'll just note that some people get to these forums while at work, where FB is not allowed, but a site like this can fly under the radar...

need Fang now.... need Fang now.... need Fang now...

Those poor souls weren't those that the comments were directed at ;)

wtf? Lol!

I don't like Facebook.

Luddite!

Okay, I thought we were looking at spaceships, but if there is more forum fun to be had here than just the original topic, I'll play too!

Facebook users are sheeps! Sheeps!

BAAAAHHHHHH!

not liking it is absolutely fine by me (my wife isn't a fan) but complaining you don't have access to it or the info on it feels as firmly in the Luddite camp as my 54-year old mother-in-law who won't get a mobile phone because "she doesn't see the point" but then complains about how she misses things and doesn't get the same updates as my 67-year old father-in-law who DOES have a phone.

but each to their own :)
