Crew and astromech, now we have it: I thought it was broken? Looking for good combinations

By IG88E, in X-Wing

I cannot remember exact combinations, but I know that there were some combos of crew and astromech that would be a bit broken when on same ship. Does anyone remember? Or at least good combinations?

Good combos (maybe some are too expensive):

R3-A2 + Tactician (or Gunner)

R2D2 + Nien Nunb

R2 + Kyle Katarn

Targeting Astromech + Hera Syndulla (or Ezra Bridger)

R5-P9 + Recon Specialist (or Lando)

R7 + Weapons Engineer

BB-8 + Intelligence Agent

R2-F2 + Kyle Katarn

PTL + BB-8 + Kyle Katarn

bb-8 plus Sabine Wren for tonnes of bombing fun!

Since they said the ship would come with six green maneuvers in the speed 1-2 range, R2 Astromech probably won't have a place.

So instead, let's go with R4-D6 and Kyle. Make your opponent have to work their way through all nine of those health points, and they'll give you free focuses while they do it.

Alternately, R4-D6 and Hera. Sponge up the damage while keeping your full dial open.

Also, R5 Astromech and R2D2 crew. Let R2 restore a shield, and if he flips a Ship crit faceup, R5 will fix it in the next end phase.

You could also run R5-D8 with R2-D2 to possibly discard those facedown damage cards completely, freeing R2 to restore a shield without risk.

Posted this elsewhere, but I find the idea of C-3PO + R5-D8 or R5-K6 entertaining, although probably still too inefficient to be competitive.

R5-P9 and recon specialist/kyle katarn?

I think a classic C3PO and R2D2 would be pretty hard to chew through and very close to broken especially on a green heavy dial.

Where are the Imperial Droids? :(

makes me sad that the pilot abilities are so **** lackluster, but here's probably why

Stay on Target, Targeting Astro, Hera

all crew will have to pass the rigorous "is it worth it over c3po" test, though, so many of the other combos are pretty bunk :P

sabine and hera so far are the only ones I'd consider; hoping the crew in the pack is cool

I don't think R5-P9 works with Recon Specialist. The wording on R5 seems to indicate you can only do it once.

Sure, but it means you don't have to worry about NOT spending a focus token in the turn to get that shield back. You'll have a couple of them, so can feel free to use one during the turn and still have one at the end to get a shield back. And if you had to use BOTH in the turn, it was because you were being attacked and blocked damage with the second, so...ended up saving damage, either way.

I dunno, feels like a decent combo to me. (And FFG, apparently, as the ship comes with another RecSpec)

just like the yt-2400 comes with countermeasures and the firespray with expose :P

With 7 red maneuvers, Targeting Astormech and Weapons Engineer will probably be solid, especially on either of the named pilots we've seen. Ezra and Hera are also solid.

7!? red? there'd be no white on the dial :P

"featuring six green maneuvers at speeds "1" and "2," even while four of its seven higher-speed maneuvers are red."

Nora with Deadeye R5-P9, Rec Spec and Proton Torpedo/Chips

Fly along side Dutch or Shara to give the TL and now you have a ship that could 5 dice Proton Torp and then possibly Regen at the end of the round.

R5-K6 + Han Solo on Momma Wexley

I don't think this actually works, because R5 says you can't spend the target lock this attack, and Han says you have to spend it.

Since they said the ship would come with six green maneuvers in the speed 1-2 range, R2 Astromech probably won't have a place.

6 green maneuvers is just the straight and banks the hard turns can still be white or red.

Methinks the C3PO and R2D2 idea would be best. That makes this ship oddly durable, guaranteeing one evade and 6 movements to regen a shield. Yeah it cuts a bit into the utility or offense, but not everything is about being as offensive as possible - if you can stick around unscathed till the late game, your durability can vastly out perform extra damage.

Where are the Imperial Droids? :(

they were on deathstar 1.

Actually, R2-Q5 was on Death Star 2. Sharp eyes to see him at the beginning during Emperor's arrival, along with a R4 tyoe as well. (I'm a fan of Q5. Have the action figure, and will eventually get the sideshow figure)

R3-A2 / Tactician would be broken on a Y-Wing because of the other pieces available: BTL-A4 and TLT, allowing for five stress in a single combat round.

I'm liking the look of this:

ARC-170 w/ Wired, R3A2, Hera, Overhaul.

It's only 4pts of upgrades, but you get a ship that can deal out stress and still K-turn behind the ship it stresses. Also wired lets you still hit decently hard and defend. Hopefully one of the cheaper pilots will have an EPT.
