Coordinated Raid: eISB's so Far

By Sevenstep, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

I am super excited about the new wave and I have really enjoyed putting some of the new models on the table. The unit that I've played with most now out of the new wave is the eISBs and I have some thoughts on Coordinated Raid.

Before the Bespin release came out I assumed that Coordinated Raid would be a high skill ceiling/high skill floor special action. When used correctly and in conjunction with the Officer movement shenanigans it would generate an extra attack most rounds until one of them got killed.

After a several games with the baddies, I can admit I may have been wrong about how Coordinated Raid delivers value. I have been getting 2ish rounds of extra attacks in my 4ish round games. A bit less than I thought. However, every round I am getting a better shot because of Coordinated Raid. Generally these shots come in one of two categories:

  • Getting a shot from a figure with hide instead of one without
  • Getting a closer shot

This sounds underwhelming, but not having to worry about range or waste a surge for accuracy is a big help. So is getting a guaranteed surge on an attack.

So, how are to you all are using the new stuff, especially this nifty little special action?

Thanks!

Interesting perspective. To clarify, amongst an eISB activation what actions are you performing for each figure in what order?

Something like:

Fig 1: Move to good attack position, Attack (get Hidden)

Fig 2: Partial Move, Raid with Hidden Figure, Move to Safety

Is that right?

I'm sure there's still a good amount of skill in setting things up optimally and defending against it too.

I've been having fun with Bossk. Keep him behind some troopers. Pop out, murder things, pop back into cover. The one time I pulled off move>indiscriminate fire (with Trandoshan Terror)> to the limit attack was pretty epic. Had Luke not had a deflection in hand I'd have killed him and a wounded eSab in one activation.

Exactly that. There are two bonuses: A strictly better attack (closer or hidden) and a bit more flexibility on how the second figure can can spend it's movement points or other action.

Another note on my playing with these dudes: Wild Attack is turning out to be pretty saucy with them.

I hadn't thought about only trying to get two attacks out of the team on purpose. That's an interesting tactic. Does it seem worth it?

I could see having a guy up front ish. And the other next to the terminal, move just enough to get line of sight. Raid and move back to the terminal. That'd be pretty cool.

Wild attack. That's good ;)

in a perfect world

1. move, shoot

2. shoot, Riad -------------aka 3 shots

but if the enemy is around a corner and far away

1. move, move

2. move, raid --------------- aka 1 good shot on target instead of 1or2 hail mary's on that target
