I downloaded the one-shot adventure FFG published and it seems that the game features premade characters? Do players make their own characters or do they choose from a list of premade characters and run those? I'm just a little confused about how the game is set up and I don't really want to invest myself into the game if it focus too much on premade characters.
Are the characters premade?
"Day Late, Shilling Short" Demo adventure you use the pre-made characters. Someone in the document it talks about it and states the Roadwarden and Envoy are key.
That said, I don't see why you cannot allow you PC's to make characters and set up hooks that fit into the adventure. That is my plan for running with my group. The Demo adventure is pretty short and made to be completed in a hour or so. My goal for our first session is to make characters, run a modified demo tha ties in with the TOA scenario.
Not at all. The premade characters in the scenario are just that premade characters for the scenario.
My group had a night of chargen last weekend and it was great fun. There's a lot of customization to do and a huge amount of stuff to dig through in order to accomplish it I'm actively looking for an easier way to help players with that task. It took us a lot longer than it should have. I'm thinking I may need to put all the action cards into a binder of 3x3 sports card pages, to make searching through them easier. I haven't come up with a solution for the talents yet.
I was going to invest in a trip to the local copy shop (not that I condone this...but since FFG didn't provide a full reference list...ymmv. I'd hand-type up a list, but time's a valuable commodity these days) and running off the 9-up binder sheets so there's a 'master copy' of all the cards front and back to refer to. Nothing to sell or whatnot, just a personal reference set that'll make chargen easier when everyone wants to read 'that card' at once.
I'm going to do up some for my WFRP3 scenario..but that's just because it's going to be running at a local game convention
