X-Wing Wave 9 and implications to IA's future releases

By FSD, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

With the reveal of X-Wing's wave 9 ships, I'm wondering if we can take this as a sign of things to come (soon) for Imperial Assault.

Wave 9 has two Scum ships ripped straight from Rebels season 2 as well as the ARC-170. Based on this info and the Q3 Villain/Ally packs predating Yavin, all signs seem to point to the next big box expansion being set in time periods 1 and/or 2 more than ever.

Mandalorian troopers?

AT-DP?

AT-DP pilots?

Stormtrooper cadets? (Would they even consider putting "children" into a combat game??)

Mandos seem likely. And would be awesome.

I agree that a Rebels era expansion is seeming more and more likely verging on inevitable.

Mandalorians would rule, and our heroes vs. whatever is left of Death Watch would make for a cool campaign hook.

It is a fine line as they need to weave the expansion campaign in without giving us to many hints as to where the Rebels story line is heading. It is great for the OT because they can just follow the story line and not have to worry about spoilers of any kind. But the era would need to be very early to not give away who lives and who dies in the Rebels series. I believe they still have 3 planned seasons left as well.

For instance, does Kanaan come to us already blind? Are they going to release two different versions of him? One for the start of the series then another as they progress through with additional small expansions? We got the grand Inquisitor, but he is dead right now, so I am guessing that means we are starting at square one of Rebels.

Unless they are throwing canon out the window, then ya go do whatever you want and I will buy it!

I think the Rebels expansion will be cool. I just want them to make the characters LOOK like "real" people rather than CGI characters. Itll look goofy if you have a cool pic of Mark Hamill as Luke next to a funky, jacked up CGI pic of Ezra...

Correction: X-Wing wave 9 has 3 ships ripped straight from Rebels! First thing I did was look up each ship, and the ARC-170 is in Rebels as well.

I agree with your conclusion though, I think the future of IA will heavily draw from the Rebels and the new movies.

For all the EU lovers, just hope and pray that the EU stuff you love shows up in Rebels. If it does, then it should make it's way into X-Wing or IA. Many of us X-Wing players really want the Assault Gunboat, but unless it somehow shows up in Rebels we can kiss that dream goodbye.

Yeah, 2 Scum ships and the ARC-170. 2 + 1 = 3. :P

Lol, durrrr.... misread your post!

There was a rumor floating around not that long ago that an EU character would be showing up in Rebels season 3... or was it Rogue One? Let me do some digging.. brb.

Found it

So, when Filoni drops a teaser on his Twitter regarding the upcoming Star Wars Celebration Europe, and when he uses the words: “And remember, there’s always a bit of truth in legends,” with the photo of the binding of a well-worn Star Wars novel, you tend to sit-up and take notice.

can you point out to me where the ARC appears in Rebels?

If they keep doing Rebels stuff we may eventually get a Darth Maul! That alone is reason to be excited for a Rebels box.

Per wiki:

Out of Darkness, Gathering Forces, Wings of the Master (wreckage only)

I seem to recall the upcoming Legends character in Rebels will be a version of Thrawn. Anyone else have info on this?

If they keep doing Rebels stuff we may eventually get a Darth Maul! That alone is reason to be excited for a Rebels box.

I'm going to take this opportunity to confess something:

I always hated Maul (that's not the confession) I thought the character had nothing going for him in Episode I, got talked up by fans insanely, appeared again and again in the EU for purposes of the Worf effect (despite the fact that he originally got beaten by a padawan). I thought it was total pandering to bring him back in Clone Wars and it basically made him a generic scheming villain and furthermore they basically threw Savage's chance of a character arc under a bus for him.

I liked the old master in Rebels (that is the confession). I enjoyed the resentful "The Sith used me as a warrior for years then through me away" thing and he seemed decently broken (as hindsight reveals Obi-Wan and Yoda to be in the OT).

I think the Episode I Maul as just a mid tier boss fight. He has no lines and no character development.

(SPOILERS I GUESS)

When he was brought back in Clone Wars... at the start it was interesting because he got some character development. Then he met up with Savage and the story went down hill.... They became generic villains with little development apart from some generic looting and scheming.

Then in Rebels he finally got some more development and and a personality. It's always interesting getting to see another side of a character. Not sith, not empire but not rebel either.

Back on topic. I'd love to have some Mandalorian troopers and the whole crew of the Ghost would be cool. More force users and a brawler like Jeb. Chopper could be another unit similar to R2-D2. Sabine could have a cool bomb/grenade like Bossk or like Saska but not ****.

Maul was criminally underdeveloped in Phantom Menace.

Have him survive and escape, and you set up a villain that Obi Wan can really get a strong story arc against in Ep2 & 3.

But Lucas made his decisions and the rest is history.

To be fair Rebels is probably the best place for old EU stuff to make its way back into canon seeing as the Rebels team are all fans of Star Wars, they even included Captain Rex (The droid) from Star Tours, not to mention other little bits here and there. That said I kinda doubt we will see an Assault Gunboat, but doesn't stop me from hoping.

[slight Spoiler]

Besides it would be amazing if Palpatine sent in Mara to try and take out the Rebels seeing as Vader while he made them flee he didn't wipe them out, and well the inquisitors have been sorta less than useless aside from being villains who just die at the season finale. Here's to hoping that Palpatine decides to try another method since the Inquisitors as is not overly effective, maybe they will be replaced by the Emperor's Hand which could let them to try and slip in Maarek Stele as an easter egg or something.

Well until FFG gets the rights to use the prequel stuff, they only have the original trilogy, Episode 7 and Rebels to base stuff on. So using that logic, a Rebels box is a matter of WHEN not IF

Wait.What? Is this true?

If so; there's a Nexu (from Attack of the Clones) in the base game set.

No it's not true.

It's been teased that something from legends will appear in rebels, well find out more at star wars celebration (soon).

My guess is that thrawn and Mara will take over the roles of tarkin and Vader, this will allow the same plot arcs to continue except that the endings for those characters will not already be known.

Also, the ARC-170 is prequel material, and the Nexu also shows up in one of the rpg core rulebooks, and events from the Clone Wars are directly referenced in the Lords of Nal Hutta sourcebook. I'm sure there's more, but there is already plenty of prequel material in FFGs games.

Untrue. They have the rights to Star Wars. It is not separate into prequel, original, sequel. They have it all.

They still have to ask really really nicely to the people at Disney if they cool with using a certain element from the OT or the prequels.

May there be a difference between A Nexu (which are not extinct as a race in the OT) and THE Queen Amidala (which is dead in the OT)?
