Lets talk about the Fang!

By Frostthorn, in X-Wing

I feel like the designed Fenn Rau for all the people complaining about Imp Aces builds. The dial will be an important thing to see though, but it's already got a 2K shown. But take the named upgrade for 1 point and you've got a ship that will get right into your face at range 1 with a stat line of 5 attack, 4 defense and an extra evade. Take evade as an action and it's going to be almost impossible for anything to punch any damage through.

This ship is going to make me want to run Vessery TIE/D ion even more.

I think that's a TRoll, not a K show in the picture but I could be wrong.

I hope these guys are fun. I've got a feeling that any encounters they find themselves in will be over fast one way or the other.

Just as a side note, I think Vector Thrusters and the Fearless EPT will also make the Kihraxz a better ship. The one thing everyone says the T-65 needs is some sort of repositioning power. Thrusters give the Kihraxz the BR ability. That one sharp turn with a BR is pretty sweet. Fearless could make it a lot more powerful to joust with, as well. I think we might see these ships some more.

The Scyk might not like Fearless as much as Attani Mindlink. There have been some good reports of T. Point Vets w/ Manglers and Mindlink ripping things up. I still think the Ion Scyk is a worthy ship to a list.

I do think the Fang Fighter will help in hunting down Aces and make a good Jouster.

This si correct, it's a 2-troll.

And yeah, Dengar/Fenn/z is gonna be my jam for sure.

Agreed. I am very much looking forward to having a legit Scum ace. Hell, Vector Thrusters on Talonbane might make it two legit aces.

No one seems to have mentioned that AFAICT it looks like the Fearless ept is a straight up attack version of the title (when attacking a ship inside your firing arc at Range 1, if you are in the defender's firing arc, add 1 (hit) result).

They're giving a lot of encouragement to joust with the fang fighter. Fenn Rau at range 1 if he's in the other ship's arc is rolling 5 attack dice with +1 hit (if he has that ept) and 4 green dice with +1 evade. With APT and the title, he could be roling 6 dice + 1 hit (assuming the ept doesn't specify primary weapon).

Not sure if it'll be better than PTL on him, but definitely interesting.

I'm definitely looking at dengar/fenn as the scum large turret + small ace archetype. I've been running a 58 point dengar with Xizor, and done pretty well in testing so far, but xizor's not a good enough ace to hold up his side of the deal. Fenn rau should be able to do that, though it only leaves me at 92 points. Maybe torpedoes and EM on dengar....

Drop 4 points off your Dengar, take a blocker, it'll be better.

Dengar loves to have a nice Z running interference in his arc, getting people to bump with no shots other than him...

I'm just afraid that Fearless is going to be a 4 point EPT. That seems to be the going rate for an EPT that gives an extra red die and this is better than adding a die.

So looking at the fan, the guy behind the front two (Kad Solus) has the ability that says "when you execute a red manoeuvre assign your ship a focus token" ?

True. There is always Predator or Crackshot.

I hope the Vector Thrusters come in at one or two points; at three I'd still take it to give Talonbane or Wedge barrel roll but it would be tougher to fit them in lists as it just adds points to ships that tend to go boom pretty fast.

I was running a mindlink squad for a bit with one syck in it; that little guy was MVP nearly every game: a TPV with title, Mangler, and ML along side Palob, a Findsman, and Kaa'to all with ML and assorted upgrades. Easily got 7 actions a round and 9 if Kaa'to and Palob stole tokens, made the whole list a lot tougher than it should have been.

I am very much looking forward to running the Fang and punching other aces in the face at range one.

I think it says 2 focus tokens.

Another advantage of playing the Fang with a Scyk is the potential confusion in mixing up which ship is which as far as the models are concerned. ;)

I'm disappointed that the highest PS pilot isn't named Buck Rogers.

Nah, dude, the new rebel U-Wing will be Buck Rogers. Or Ruck Boggers, if there is a licencing issue.

DUCK DODGERS AND THE TWENTY FOURTH AND A HALF CENTUUURY!!!!!!!

I seriously cannot wait for more spoilage, I am like bacteria in a bad fish market. I wanted to play Scum knife fighters when I first started, get Kath or Boba in there, now I possibly can, well in about 6 months. I have played imp aces because of their play style, hopefully this is scums entry into that part of the game.

Sorry if I missed this somewhere in the thread, but does it look to anyone else like Old Teacher removes tokens from ships in R1 (and probably in arc)?) Something like:

"At the start of the Combat phase, you may select one enemy ship at R1 and in arc. Choose one token assigned to it, discard that token."

Hello Deadeye counter.

I think that the cheapest fang figher will be 21p.. you get four fangs 84p, four plasma torpedoes12p with guidance chips and tittle 4p..

A Deadeye counter that's substantially worse (in that particular mechanic) than long time Scum pilot Palob Godalhi.

Very true. But it does give a second option, on a somewhat superior frame (and correspondingly higher cost).

Or do both and strip tokens from 2 ships!

Getting multiples of this ship. Wonder if you can run 5 of them...

Me too! Points cost of lowest PS card is what I really want to know next :D

Soontir Fel with Hull Upgrade has always been a very respectable pick. Stealth Device wins out of late purely because Soontir can stack so many protective tokens combined with Emperor safeguarding it even further. Note that, eg, Carnor Jax (who has fewer tokens) likes Hull Upgrade just fine. Of course, those picks are there because RGI lets 'em take both the upgrade and autothrusters.

Fenn Rau is Soontir Fel with a compulsory Hull Upgrade as one of the RGI picks. In return for the extra Focus token, he's able to arrange rolling even more dice, and can even take a certain amount of advantage of the previously-dreaded caught-in-range-one-joust situation.

... Yeah, he's going to be a permanent staple of Scum lists for a long time to come. I'm almost a little disconcerted that they gave him PS 9 - I'd been kinda digging the drift back to PS8 aces of late, and now we've got a PS9 pilot welded into the Scum Arc Dodger category.

Dengar and Fenn, here we come. ;)

Alpha Squadron interceptors are 18 points and terrible. I would not assume they'd take the 18pt ship as the baseline and simply add the 3hp hull upgrade to it, because that is still terrible, and the designers know it.

Call it 20pts. 19 would be a little insulting to other ships in their class, even if it would be probably better priced there.

Based off of the Prices for the PS2 Cartel Maurader and the PS1 Alpha Squadron (20 and 18 respectively), which the Fang sits between, we can estimate that the generic PS1 Zealous Protector will cost between 18 and 20 points. The next up, PS3 Concord Defender will cost between 20 and 23 points, as the PS5 Black Sun Ace is 23 points and the PS3 Avenger Squadron is 20 points. Then you have the PS5 Concord Veteran, who will cost between 21 points and 25 points, as the Saber Squadron Pilot costs 21 points, and Graz the Hunter is 25 points.
