Wave 9 Revealed!

Hmm, is that "Old Master" pilot with the Protectorate Starfighter? Maul making an appearance

Interesting. It could be, as he's going to be making more appearances in Season 3.

But I assume his ties to the Mandalorians were severed long before Rebels.

Here's the thing about the ARC though:

No generic pilots.

So far I'm seeing more Palp Aces than Jm5k counters there. Fenn Rau with VI Ketsu should be a nightmare for most popular Palp aces builds. PS9 means Ketsu can reorient arc after most PS8 Imperial Aces moved and Fenn moves last to get to range 1. Then Ketsu shoots first, hands out 1-2 Tractor Beam tokens while Fenn follows up with a 5 dice attack.

Wait. Dath Maul is in Rebels?

That's bobby bullcrap. :'(

So far I'm in love with the Mod that adds the barrel roll action...

I have a crush on the mobile firing arc...

I'm stalking the new Astromech...

I wanna bang the Fang...

But I really want to legally marry Quickdraw.

Wait. Dath Maul is in Rebels?

Yes... Why wouldn't he be? He never actually died in TPM and was never killed in TCW. So why wouldn't he be in Rebels?

What's ridiculous about it? It's going to pay a 2-3 point premium compared to a B-wing or X-wing + R2 Astromech + Integrated Astromech, to get the extra durability provided by 1 hit point at 1 Agility and an auxiliary arc with 2 Attack.

Oh, and if 6 greens is going to break the game, I suggest you consider the dial of an X-wing with R2 Astromech. Counting greens is not a particularly helpful metric.

2-3 point premium *without* factoring in the IA tax an X-wing has to pay to move up from 'worthless' to 'terrible'.

And those 6 greens are absolutley amazing. In your rush to find a snarky rebuttal, you forgot that this means the Arc doesn't have to spend a point to get a dial worth looking twice at. Starting off with the Greens means an Arc can take BB8 + PTL and not be locked to easily predictable moves forever.

Ah, I didn't realize you knew the cheapest ARC pilot was going to cost 23 points. That changes things!

And yes, the ARC can take BB-8 and still have lots of greens. That's very good. Maybe the same thought occurred to the developers and playtesters, and it's priced with those things in mind?

Also, before you accuse anyone else of rushing to anything, you should consider that you're the one declaring the sky is falling based on a preview article.

First off, I like how FFG is addressing the whole issue with Wave 5 and turrets. They have made steps to make ships that you want to be in someone's firing arc. That's pretty cool. Also, with these new ships, there are lots of ships with numerous firing arcs. This is really good against all the Imp Aces that are running rampant. Lots of cool things to counter Arc Dodging, which is another issue I think X-wing needed to address as a game system. Perhaps you can have an Imperial Build that is more than just 3 Aces all the time?

not sure enthused about the arc pilots, though. Their abilities (PS 6 and 7) are stupidly situational and difficult to abuse without some serious luck

PS 6 sacrifices her own modifiers

PS 7 sacrifices her own modifier to add a result that needs to be further modified to do anything

basically need to PTL and hope you don't roll blanks

No imagination! Rebels excel at Synergy. There are a ton of options for these to pilots. Norra Wexley can use the Weapons Engineer crew to get 2 Target Locks. One for her target, and one for someone else. Also, you can use Dutch to give away a free TL to her. Tons of other options to give away actions, like Squad Leader, Cracken, etc.

Shara has other options than PTL. What about Norra, for example? R7-T1? Or Dutch? Or Squad Leader? Or Cracken? Or Garven Dries? Or Kyle Katarn? Or.....etc.

I don't think the ARC-170 fighters step on the toes of the X-wing so much as I'm sure their speed is not going to be very fast. X-wings are awesome at getting to where they need to be. Might not matter much for tournament play, but very important in Epic and Missions.

My disappointment stems from the fact that having Bey in an A Wing would refresh the A Wing...at least a little.

Just wait for the "Rebel Vets" to come out. She could be in there.

I think I want 2 of them so I can run "Yummy Mummies" or whatever that list ends up getting called.

I'm cringing just thinking of it, but let's get the obvious out of the way: "Mothers I'd Like to Fly."

Dang! You beat me to it! :)

Alright.....I'm looking at Fearless(ness?) the EPT. You get to add a hit result when you are firing at someone in your firing arc? This helps every single jouster in the game. That includes T-65's! Arc Dodging and repositioning might not be as important if you are OK with getting someone in your firing arc. OK...I am still expecting the T-67 title that adds Boost to the T-65, but it is really cool to see this added. Imagine Wedge with this. Reduce their green by 1 AND add in a free hit. If someone has to use Boost or BR (now an option with Vectoring Thrusters) to re-position to get the shot, they might not need to modify their dice if they have Fearless. OK...your averages drop, but you add in a hit. Which is better: getting a re-roll or just adding in a hit? I'd say the Hit most of the time, because you still have the chance of actually rolling well and adding to your total.

Fearless is also going to be awesome for the Kihraxz Fighter. Same with Vectoring Thrusters. They can do a 1 hard turn and then BR backwards? So cool.

Dengar is also going to love Fearless....and it even fits in with his backstory!

I like how Kad Solus' ability is kind of like Soontir Fel, but based on just the maneuvers. So, no PTL every dang turn to take advantage of it too much.

IG crew is very cool and we will see one IG in a list more than the few rare sightings from the interwebs. There will surely be some cool combos with cool pilots. What about Dengar with IG-88 A? I can see Dengar taking hits and taking down ships (especially with Fearless and R5-P8).

If Ketsu Onyo can get someone at R1 in their firing arc...they auto get the -1 Agility. She can then fire and if she has the title, they get another -1 Agility. Holy cow! That could be quite crazy. The only trouble is the high agility ships will be hard to get into arc.

So....can the Shadow Caster fire from either the mobile firing arc OR the front arc? I can see how you would want to have the mobile in the front for use of title and special ability by Ketsu, but that's pretty boss to have 2 firing arcs if you need it.

OK...enough rambling. I'm sure 2 pages have passed while typing.

Thank you FFG. You've finally released me from my compulsion to keep buying everything X-Wing!

I'm finally free!!

haha ... same here

So that ps9 tie/SF + Palp will let me fly over a rock, palp to a hit, and attack Fel during the activation phase before he has tokens, right?

Is this the first ship that would be better with a lower PS?

Yes. Assuming you're willing to take a damage, skip your actions, and potentially place yourself in Fel's arc...

Is this the first ship that would be better with a lower PS?

Everything with a bomb slot came first, but especially Deathrain.

...also, note that Quickdraw doesn't actually need a lower PS, because she can equip Enhanced Scopes.

The self mutilation meta is real! :D

scum need a huge ship not a 5th large ship

Epic ships are never part of the official waves. They are probably running into the same problem that the Raider did. That is that there wasn't anything that fit into X-wing that is officially canon. Or...it's been in a few official things, but not really fleshed out proper with Lucas Arts. So, they might have to go to LA to approve all sorts of things. That's why the Raider took so long.

Also, FFG is probably being pressured to come out with relevant stuff to new movies/tv shows/novels and there might not be a good hole in their release schedule that would allow it.

Hmm, is that "Old Master" pilot with the Protectorate Starfighter? Maul making an appearance

No, and maybe yes. The card looks to be Old Teacher (but they may well be one and the same). It is on the ship token if you missed it.

Or it's because a lot of the "scummy" characters own big ships to fit their massive egos along with contraband and bounty.

So no more classic EU ships? .... aww ...

Are we getting away from the Civil War? This doesn't seem like a good move for content, this looks like an attempt to get more sales. Putting out models from newer movies (Clone Wars) and the recent successful cartoon TV show.

I think a Rebel veterans with an E-wing and T-65 fix would be more more substantial than these attempts to print new content in the hopes of getting more recent newer fans.

Wait. Dath Maul is in Rebels?

Yes... Why wouldn't he be? He never actually died in TPM and was never killed in TCW. So why wouldn't he be in Rebels?

He definitely died in TPM. Full stop. if anything is trying to claim otherwise I'm out. It's a shame really I liked rebels season 1.

The ARC looks good and should be a nice addition to the game, but I do hope this doesn't mean that X-wing is going to start being flooded with clone-wars era ships.

I hope they do another rebel aces/veterans pack soon though, I'd like to see more attention given to the x, y, a, and b-wings. (i.e. the original ships that will always be my favourites).

When it comes to the Fang, I believe that it is the first ever solo expansion (not a "veteran" type pack) that comes with so many pilots (and so very few upgrades). Combine this with a non-unique title, and I have feeling that the title is meant to promote synergy between Fang ships (most likely not like the IG-2000 title, but something interesting).

... and the Star Trek ship is from Rebels??

Are we getting away from the Civil War?

Exactly what ships are left from that era?

This doesn't seem like a good move for content

How are new ships bad for content? In a game like this, ships and upgrades are the content.

this looks like an attempt to get more sales.

Every wave is an attempt to get more sales... That's kinda the whole point.

Putting out models from newer movies (Clone Wars) and the recent successful cartoon TV show.

Yes, we should make a point of avoiding successful and popular sources of ships... That's exactly the right answer, and by all means lets avoid getting fans of the new movie into the game.

Two ships from a current GCW-era TV show and the other small ship from the latest movie, and that's pandering somehow? What?

Which Rebel ship deserved to be in the wave then? We're fresh out of iconic alphabet fighters.

He definitely died in TPM. Full stop.

No he didn't, George Lucas himself brought him back in the Clone Wars TV show.
