Open Group advice for Friends of Old

By Tanakar001, in Imperial Assault Campaign

See title.

Threat level is 4. I have Imperial Informants but I'm not sure if I'd rather save it for a Story Mission where an extra XP is on the line.

I'm playing Technological Superiority and I've bought Technical Support and Arc Blasters so far.

Heroes are running:

Fenn: Tactical Movement, Rebel Elite. T-21

Gideon: Called Shot, Military Efficiency, Air of Command

Jyn: Cheap Shot, Get Cocky. DL-44, Extra Ammunition, Combat Coat, Tactical Display, Spread Barrel

Mak: Disengage, Jeswandi Training, Expertise. E-11

Initial thoughts are Elite Stormtroopers, normal Nexu, and normal Royal Guards.

Thoughts?

Elite Stormies are pound for pound your best unit, especially if you have any attachments to stick on them, which in this case is Arc Blasters. This will be the key for you tipping the scales right here. You need to use your adjacent re rolls to get a surge and use that to do the blast, making all of them test Might as many times as possible. Make this your aim, damage secondary. Stealing their actions will severely slow them down. Unless they are already stunned obviously then just convert for the 2 damage and pew pew.

The problem is with Fenn's blast they can get blown up pretty quick, especially on deployment. It is almost always possible to get the adjacent re roll and be able to leave your figures 1 space apart, it just takes careful planning. So take a few seconds to run through a few different attack scenarios before starting. They are also masters at blocking quick shot for Jyn, doesn't look like she took Trick Shot either so multi unit deployment cards are your friend on that. She will be forced to put herself severely out of position (adjacent basically) if you are doing this right.

At this point I think you can also splurge for the elite Nexu. For 2 more points you are getting 2 more HP and upgrading your cleave. Also +2 damage > 2 pierce overall.

I love Royal Guards for their stun, but you've already got that with Arc Blasters. Combine that with the fact that post errata they aren't the beasts they once were (still very powerful!) I would say that 2 units at 8 and 9 deployment in your open hand is a bit much.

If you want a cheaper unit I would grab a regular probe droid or even an Elite Officer for the command + stun. But honestly if I want to be a pain in the ass for my Rebels I bring out the Trandoshans, I don't think there is a more annoying deployment to fight against besides ST's that can stun.

I also forgot about technical support when I wrote my notional groups earlier. I think either a regular or elite probe droid will round out my Elite Stormies and Elite Nexu. I think they'll also be wary of even the regular probe droid as I won Imperial Hospitality by double moving two probe droids next to their captive and self destructing.

They have no melee figures. Just simply pure ranged that can wreck havoc with blasts as Froggy pointed out.

So you need to make sure that for 4 movement points you move 1 trooper forward 3 spots. He shoots and ends up somewhere or don't use all 4. Then the next trooper moves 3 to be adj to that trooper and then moves 1 away so they're a space. 3rd trooper the same thing, move 3 spaces to be adj and then move 1 to be away from the other 2 so they're are no blasts. You could even throw in some Royal Guards and dish out damage that way. They can reach so then you can move 2, reach 1, and then move back 3 (or vice versa).

An elite EWebb Engineer is great too (depending on map, I can't remem off hand) if you can block/corner them. They have 2 black def heroes that an elite ewebb can wipe the floor with. If you can get an officer next to him, he can move him easily.

Although I have to admit, dropping an AT-ST on them at the end of round 2 would be hilarious, if inefficient and probably not successful in actually winning the mission.

I always try and include the Trandoshan Bounty Hunters. Get them in close and start shotgunning and it can slow the heroes right down. I also ALWAYS try to include the HKs, but, that is so I can start throwing out HK47 quotes
