120 pts game, defeated by Thermal Detonators

By Hexdot, in X-Wing

Casual and friendly game, you must be polite if you are playing with a MD surgeon that perhaps will cut you ( 40-45 years old players in my area, slowly growing in numbers. Ex wargamers, roleplayers who can play a couple of games a month ).

I played quite bad, and a pair of Tie Bombers dropped their bombs and caught my Rebel Heroes bunched, because I forgot the bombs. And with no Boost or Barrel Roll, my T 65 suffered badly. Two TDs plus EMs ruined my chance to win, but was a good learning night. Luke received 3 bomb hits, a moral beating.

Very fun game, later I recovered a bit but the combo Bombers + Defenders was quite efective. Defenders D firing twice plus well placed bombs, potent tool.

What's EM?

Extra Munitions.

If your opponent forgets about bombs, it can be brutal! There is a thread on here about them and their use. I've really mangled people with them before. I was playing them before Extra Munitions and all the popular bomb lists came out. I've even gotten people in the same game as they forget.

I haven't used Thermal Detonators much, but I look forward to them!

EDIT: Oh, and how do you like 120 pt games? I kind of want to play some 150 pt games and get in a big ship with some support for some fun games. So many good Scum ships that I want to fly.

At The regionals i went to in Seldon, NY there was a list of 3 Kwings with EM, Adv homing Missiles and Proton Bombs (everything to avoid shields)

so basically it came down to the last shot after time 75 minutes without a single point being scored on either side. which is impressive that my Shuttle (albeit with Sensor Jammer against 2 dice primaries) didnt go to half points. There was one turn in particular that was especially brutal.

My shuttle ate Two proton bombs as it had no repositioning abilities and my inquisitor had the choice of either getting a shot and possibly being in range of the same two bombs, or running away and simply taking one of the proton bombs. I took the route that avoided the shot and it turns out that was right. He was totally in range of both of the bombs.

It was a rough game for both of us, but it turned out that i killed a K wing (with 1 shield and full hull, as opposed to the one at one hull (because it was running) or the one at range 2 of OL at 2 hull with that being the only shot.) So i took the shot that all my ships could fire on, and managed to squeak in a kill thanks to a lucky Minor Explosion crit rolling in to damage. 80 minutes later i score 33 points.

That's awesome! Sounds like fun.

Makes me think when I ran the Mission 1 Shuttle Escort with my friend. At the end of the game, the Shuttle almost got away, but was the only ship destroyed.

We played 120 pts because my partner was limited to play only 90 minutes. So we played a 120 pts game, and finished the game after 85 min. Very often if we can play 2 hours, 150 pts. Adjust the point value of the LGS play to time limits, if I am playing friendly with a non ultra competitive guy

I also like increasing the point value for "grander" games. We'll arbitrarily pick random values like 104 or 111 to field a squad.

Its interesting, because I like the squads you can build when you cap it fairly close to the normal 100 point games, like say 105 or something. There's no telling how many times I've thought up some combination to fly and realized to get what I really want it rings in a few points too much and you have to scrap an EPT or something.

The games definitely feel different than when you play 120+ or greater, and you're adding on entire ships with loadouts to your squad
