Sarone's Star Wars: Hutts Space Chronicles (Season 1) IC

By Sarone, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

"Tell him to meet me here, I see no point in mustering in a cramped space away from where the fighting, if any is going to be."

"Sounds good, but fair warning, you should know he seems to have an issue when you do things a little differently than he expects. Trust me."

Massan arrives in time to hear Tion and Sting discussing possible boarding action. He gets a knot in his stomach. Hopefully it won't come to that. Perhaps the other ship is simply an honest merchant who had a problem with his ship and needs assistance. He hurries after Tion to the bridge. If there is going to be action he wants to hear the planning, know what's expected off him, and how he could possibly help in ways not expected of the ship's mechanic. With his new toy, the brand new Merr-Sonn Model 53 Blaster Pistol. Bought straight from a sealed box stamped in the factory on Raxus Prime. Still smells like oil and blaster gas. Best smell in the world. Too bad he hadn't gotten around to really customizing it fully yet. It will be so much more powerful once he has had a little time to play around with it. One article he read about illegal modifications said that once the actuating module had been tweaked well past the recommended setting a good hit could melt an arm off. Melt it. Right off. Massan shivers. Hopefully it won't be needed. Not yet. It isn't ready yet.

Arriving to the bridge moments after Tion, Massan gives him a friendly grin. Which, for beings unfamiliar with Klatooinians, might be interpreted as anything from a threatening snarl to an apologetic shrug. He looks towards the sensor station. "We see any sign of damage, anything that indicates what we're about to deal with? Don't tell me it's leaking a bit of coolant fluid from the engine? That's the oldest pirate trick in the galaxy for making a ship look damaged when it isn't."

"Well seeing that I am a paying passanger and not part of the crew, I could give a bantha's ass what he expects. I expected a ship that was not going to fall apart exiting hyperspace....fat lotta good that did."

"Well we did the best with what we had," says Lynna. "You should have seen this hunk of junk when it was in hyperspace," she adjusts some controls. "We're holding station at the moment, but I can take the ship in whenever you're ready."

Massan looks at the captain. "The ship isn't in a good shape, but there is not much we can do about that before trying to respond to that distress call. Are we going in?"

"Roger that, we are going in. Looks like your correct, Sting, in that this is a trap. We get through this and you get paid the Co-pilot's rate." Setting up the ship, Captain Trell and Lynna work together to connect a tow cable to the ship. Staisfied, Captain Trell looks at Lynna and tilts his head back. "Guess we get paid twice here. Piracy is frowned upon in Hutt Space, especially unsanctioned operations. We have an advantage here, so let's take it."

Getting up, Captain Trell leads Lynna and Kayne to the portside docking hatch, leaving Klyp, Prefect, and the R4 unit in the bridge area. Goin past the passenger area, Trell looks at Sheed. "If you want to have some excitement and earn some pay, get to the hold. Otherwise, sit tight and relax."

Marching in, Captain Trell looks at the assembled team, his demeanor slightly uplifted. "We have an opportunity presented, people. This might be a trap, but we have an advantage in knowing it. If successful that ship might be worth a pretty penny as salvage. Set any blasters to stun unless you are good shot."

Nodding, Trell activates the docking clamp, extending the tube to the other ship. A thud and clang of metal signifies a successful attachment, while the hiss of air indicates a successful seal. Glancing at the team as the light goes from red to green, the old captain looks at the boarding team. "Good hunting."

[The distressed ship is a Suwantek TL-1200 freighter (pictured above), the name Fereallis emblazoned on the sides. A quick glance shows significant carbon scoring and venting of the atmosphere. If anything, it looked like it might be in worse shape that the Fool's Errand.

Or would, if it wasn't for the fact enough people has passed the mechanics check. The venting atmosphere is too consistent and doesn't appear to be from actual damage. In addition, it has zero movement in relation to other celestial bodies.

The boarders will be coming from the portside of Fool's Errand and starboard of the Fereallis.

All boarders need to roll for a perception (DDD) and vigilance (-). Check the OOC for any additional information.]

Sting heads faces the port airlock and sets his blaster to stun. He also takes up a defensive position behind a bulkhead ready to shoot the first being through the hatch. "With any luck, I'll be able to work on my back hand slice" he mumbles to himself batting his trusty gaffi stick.

Massan can't believe his own ears. The captain knows this is a trap and is going for it anyway. Madness. Sheer madness. He looks at the others in the cockpit. Isn't anyone going to say anything? Surely this is grounds for mutiny, risking the ship and crew for some salvage. A salvage that is probably full of nasty, crazy pirates, high on spice and armed to the teeth.

When the pudgy Klatooinian sees that people are assembling by the airlock he makes up his mind. If it is a fight they are headed for, he might as well go along. They will need every blaster they can muster if they are to have a chance. Massan walks along the outer hull of the ship and then the door to the airlock. He tries to calm down and reach out with his mind, trying to determine if there are any living beings nearby, other than the ones he sees at the airlock. His heart is beating so fast it seems to be about to rip its way out of his chest as he tries to sense any signs of life on the other ship.

Regardless of that he settles for a place at the rear of the boarding party, drawing his new, pretty blaster pistol. Why oh why did he get greedy and hire on as a Mechanic rather than spending his time in the cabin fiddling with his lovely new toy? Massan feels the custom grip of the pistol settle into his hand and feels slightly calmer. He doesn't turn on the electronic sight system just yet. If would only confuse his allies, better to keep that off until they are about to enter the pirate vessel.

Massan hesitates for a moment before setting the blaster for stun. "They are not going to surrender if they know we are trying to take them alive, we should set to kill, they sure as hell will," he mumbles, his voice barely audible to those standing next to him, certainly quiet enough so that there is no chance the captain hears him. He decides to obey the command mostly because there might be a lot of friendlies between him and any pirates, and because if everyone else is using blasters set for stun and he is not the pirates might prioritize taking him down. When he would really just prefer to look unimportant at the back.

I'll flip a Destiny Point and take strain and conflict to use this to activate my Sense power as the crew is assembling, clearly Massan is using his fear to fuel this attempt... This tells Massan if there are any living beings on board the enemy ship within Short range from the Airlock door.
After doing so Massan is committing his single Force Dice to the Sense power, upgrading the first attack targeting him each round.

Tion watches the boarding party form, looking for tics and body language to get a gauge on how they will react. It's a game he plays to hone his reading skills. It's served him well in the past and right now what he's getting from the rest of the crew is making him a bit nervous. A mix of fear and desperation seem to dominate. That's not a recipe for success.

He pulls his blaster and confirms for probably the sixth time that it's fully charged and set to stun. He goes to reholster it and decides not to. It seems like a good idea to have it handy.

Jumping up to join the boarding party, Edad unholsters his gun. He briefly considers the stun setting, but the decides not to. "Trell did say "..unless you are a good shot," he mumbles to himself. Beginning to tingle with anticipation of the upcoming battle, the Duros can't help but wonder what interesting things may be on the pirate vessel. "I'll bet they have stuff they don't even realize is valuable," he tells himself to help calm some of the nerves.

Joining his compatriots, he seems the same mix of nerves and excitement on most of the faces. In fact the only person who doesn't appear to show any nerves is the gambler. Taking note of this, Edad resolves to stick close to Tion if things go south.

Massan knows he is special. At first he thought his honed senses were a sort of a sixth sense all slaves develop to detect if their masters are nearby, so that they are not found slacking off. As he grew older he knew this was something much more. Now he could sense the beings around him, but in addition he clearly sensed at least five beings nearby. On the other side of the airlock. Waiting in an ambush.

The Klatooinian feels like he is about to throw up. That greedy captain was going to be the death of them all. Perhaps he should hang back, look really unimportant and then surrender and hope the pirates needed a good mechanic? He makes a mental note that if he sees someone in a grease-stained overalls to switch his blaster from stun to kill. That way they would need a mechanic for sure. It never hurt to hedge one's bets...

"Guys, can you hear that? I heard some boots on the floor when I put my ear against the door just now, they are ready to blast us as soon as we open the doors," Massan says as he gets to the rear of the group and tries to look unimportant. He concentrates on his environment, ready to take advantage of his special senses to dodge blaster bolts. He's done it before and he would do it again if that was what was required to survive. They won't kill me. They won't kill me. They won't kill me...

Tion watches the clearly terrified Klatoonian work his way toward the back, and notices everyone start to get more on edge. Thankfully, he's had a bit of experience with the type of ship they're about to enter.

"Massan, have you ever been on a TL-1200," he asks, speaking to the engineer, but making it clear the info he's sharing is for everyone and taking care to take a calming rather than condescending tone. "We're in a good spot here. We're prepared for an attack and we're entering at the best possible location. Where we're coming in a basically a choke point; the corridor is barely wide enough for two people to stand shoulder to shoulder. Unless they're ready for us - which they probably won't be since we haven't shown that we're on to them - they won't be able to overrun us. And if they try, we can just stand here and pick them off one by one.

"If they're not in there, they might be hanging back in the crew area, but my guess is they're going to try charging in and surprise us."

Tion pauses, claps Massan on the shoulder and flashes a quick smirk to the rest of the group.

"What they don't know is while they may have a pure Sabaac, we've got an Idiot's Array."

Seeing a slightly offended look starting blossom on Edad's face, Tion quickly shakes his head.

"Are you not familiar with... I thought everyone knew about... look, no one's an idiot. It's a Sabaac term. Nevermind. Let's earn our hazard pay."
