Dead Man's Switch question

By galahadba, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi, i have a doubt about this card.

If a ship equiped with it pass through an asteroid get hit and die, where exactly it explodes to cause the damage?

1 - In the inicial position of it's moviment?

2 - Where the template touches the asteroid? if yes, then in big asteroids where i position the center os explosion, as this changes who gets damaged?

3 - In the final position os the moviement?

I want to know becouse let the ship explode in an asteroid can be a good choice in some cases.

thanks

The answer is 3. When you overlap an obstacle, you complete the maneuver, then you resolve the effect, including the roll for damage. This can then cause your ship to be destroyed and trigger Dean Man's Switch

Unless you perform a green maneuver through an obstacle with a ship equipped with R2-D2 (astromech) - in that case you resolve R2-D2 first and then apply damage.

On the other hand if you do the same over a mine token, the order is reversed - damage first - then regen

Probably because rules or something :)

Technically the time you roll for damage is after the Perform Action Step, which is after the execute maneuver step. This also explains R2-D2 above.

Thanks, it is very good info for suicidal tactics ;)
