And, while I've started to buy into the card game, I'm nowhere near as interested in its development.

I see this as a good sign. Means that Disney is cool with them saying "rogue squadron" and it means that FFG is willing to use it.

Not disappointed, I've just adjusted my expectations to the bar set on the FFG forums.
welp at least now we can try to reverse engineer this card in the vain hope that the x-wing miniature rogue squadron will be bringing similar capabilities to x-wings in our game

Yeah but it virtually proves that FFG IS Working on our Rogue Squadron Expansion ... we have all talked about it for years, well two years once T-65's started to slip.
It will be here as part of The ROGUE ONE Goodies this holiday.
FFG is setting us up for the next announcement... X-wing announcement.
I think the next 10 articles(besides previews) will play out like this:

I think his point wasn't that they were recycling art, but that the art for the Rogue Squadron card is the same art from the Wraith Squadron book. In other words, they used Wraith Squadron art to represent Rogue Squadron. That is kind of silly.
